As designers, we seek perfection and originality. The more we step back and look at our work, the more changes we tend to find necessary. Drastic modifications are inevitable. The same is true of Grayfel. Grayfel began as an exercise at insigne to explore the crowded space of neutral sans. While the world of sans serifs is admittedly crowded, I still managed to find something new and different. The final Grayfel consists of 42 full-featured OpenType fonts containing three widths: Regular, Condensed, and Extended. Every width consists of 14 fonts--seven weights with matching italics, making it a good companion for setting clear text and headlines for print and screen. OpenType features are also available. There’s figure choices, such as proportional and old style figures. Additionally, Greyfel includes sophisticated typographic attributes: ligatures, fractions, alternate characters, small caps, superscripts and subscripts. Its extended character set supports Central, Western and Eastern European languages. Optical compensations also mean the outcome of this family is a hybrid of humanistic proportions. Woodmark JNL is a rough and somewhat irregular in letter form wood type based on some examples of William H. Page's "New Process No. 507". The eccentricity of the letters is reminiscent of many of the 1800's wood type designs, and is perfect for a rustic look within any retro project.

The cover of the 1930s-era “Catalog of Artists’ Materials” from Ernst H. Friedrichs, Inc. (New York) has the words “Artists’ Materials” hand lettered in a stylized Art Deco sans serif type style. Egyptian Ornamented is a decorative font based on the shapes found in a French Clarendon. Serifs are chunky and bifurcated, and “spurs” have been added to the strokes. This font emits the feeling of Old West wanted posters, rodeo broadsides, etc. It was first introduced by William H. Page & Company in 1870.

Playing with old rub-on letters led to this alphabet. On the Letraset sheets (the older ones still remember...) there were always letters left over that were never or rarely used. I sometimes let interns play with it. To explain, I first rubbed an example myself. Two y's from a Helvetica made a pretty shape. Looking closely, you see a contoured, italic N. I developed the HGB Ypsilon font from this N. A purely decorative typeface – it could be interesting for some logo.

The Enagol Math family consists of 4 weight plus True italics. It is a typeface with rounded Slab-Serif of Semi-Condensed proportions. I have composed all the proportions of the character based on a study of mathematical proportions related to the golden sequences of Perrin, Lucas and Fibonacci. From an initial matrix of golden proportions applied in the letters 'H' for capital letters and 'n' for lowercase letters, calculated for the versions of the extremes of the Light and Bold type, below I do the whole calculation of proportions using my formula of three axes and by interpolation I generate the intermediate versions Regular and Medium. For the Italic versions I have drawn a complete set of lowercase letters that give these fonts an aspect close to the Italic writing. In these versions I have also applied many optical corrections to balance the deformations created in many curves by the mere inclination of the letters, which in the case of this type is 11°.

CA Normal Serif is the perfect companion to its grotesque brother CA Normal. But it is not just a serifed equivalent. It has a character of its own while preserving the principal proportions and the idea of quirkiness. It was not the aim to build a typeface that can immediately be identified as a relative of CA Normal. The intention was to create a matching typeface in aspects of aesthetic and concept. Whereas commonly serif-companions to grotesques are old-style or slab-serif, CA Normal Serif is situated between modern and slab-serif typefaces. CA Normal Serif is a little bit of an uncomfortable typeface. Nothing is smooth and cozy. It picks up elements of classic newspaper type as brought to us by Chauncey H. Griffith's legibility group, sharing the flavor of abrasive details and "slabbish" serifs. But the proportions are more condensed than the ones of its predecessors giving it a bit more elegance, which moves it closer to the aesthetic of "Scotch Romans".

David Berlow drew Romeo Medium Condensed during winter of 1990, basing the design on the Estrecha Fina weight of Electra, a spectacular art deco sanserif with an unusually fine condensed series. Carlos Winkow designed it circa 1940 for the Nacional typefoundry of Madrid, the leading typefoundry in Spain. Garuspik is an original ulra condensed, narrow, tall font with 3 styles: display, round and square. It is particularly well suited to create text blocks, advertising slogans, headlines, and other original and interesting text compositions. For convenience and variation the Uppercase are very tall, lowercase are moderately tall. Garuspik looks especially good when set in all uppercase. So, for convenience and simplicity, the smcp feature changes all characters to uppercase only. In addition, another OpenType feature changes the form of some uppercase, if they stand before to lowercase. And of course, there are all the necessary and popular features such as frac, ordn, locl and others.

Let Me Call You Sweetheart was one of the most popular songs of the early 20th Century, and a piece of vintage sheet music for this tune had its title hand lettered in a square, narrow block lettering style. CastleType was commissioned in 1991 by San Francisco Focus magazine to digitize three members of the Standard family. This is a Continental lineale that was popular in Switzerland in the 1950s and later in the United States. A cousin to the classic sans serifs, Standard is an alternative that is considerably warmer and a bit more idiosyncratic. In 2008, CastleType released additional members of the Standard CT family to make it a complete typographic solution with three widths (normal, condensed, extended) of four weights each (Regular, Medium, Bold, and Extra Bold). Dilemma is a sans/sans serif type system with 42 styles; it is inspired by the anonymous Polyphème, Cyclopéen and Extra Condensé designs from the early 1900s at the Peignot Fonderie. From these initial points of reference, Sudtipos went further and reimagined these projects for an actual use by blending them into a unique and complex type system. Dilemma is defined as ‘a situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two or more alternatives, especially ones that are equally undesirable’ and that is exactly how we designed this font. We created a workhorse system where each style functioned well alone but would be more powerful when working as a team, pairing the sans styles with the serifs.
