The thin, stylish Art Deco slab serif lettering featured on the cover of the 1934 sheet music for “Then I’ll be Tired of You” inspired the digital type face Park West JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. Central Park West has always been the upscale area for affluent New Yorkers, but in the Great Depression years of the 1930s the mystique of the well-to-do held an even stronger significance.

Sundry is J Foundry’s take on the early 20th century grotesque. The design draws influence from various designs of the period. Drawn and cut by hand, these sans have idiosyncrasies and quirks, producing a warm friendly look. The design objective was to even out the quirks and add consistency, without losing the warmth. Slice is an experimental, circular, display typeface designed by Superfried. Slice, like its big brother Slash, also features key incisions to form the glyphs. Unlike Slash, Slice is much simpler in design based on basic geometric forms and features both upper and lowercase. Slice has a very retro feel and its chunky structure leads to a distinct, high-impact display font. Slice has been featured on the Behance curated typographic gallery TypographyServed.com.

FourJuly contains three patriotic fonts that might be fun to use in July. They are also very hard to read, but perhaps not as hard as the somewhat similar letters in the fonts of FlagDay. FourJuly A has square, blocky letters with star interiors. FourJuly G and FourJuly H add diagonal stripes. FourJuly G and FourJuly H can be layered on top of FourJuly A to create bicolored letters. Henry Gray’s Anatomy of the Human Body (the book, not Grey’s Anatomy, the TV series) was heavily scoured to find more unusual bones shaped like letters. Quidic is an unusual display typeface. The upper-case letters are strongly vertical, condensed, and bold. Used by themselves, they make headlines and titles that stand out. The lower case letters do not have serifs similar to those on the upper-case letters, but rather have the serif shapes one expects from an italic style. The lower-case is also quite short compared to the upper-case letters. The italic styles of the family are unusual because the lower-case letters keep their shapes and the upper-case letters and numbers change. The family has three styles that differ more by width rather than by weight. Although some Bauhaus fonts have several letter shapes that are similar, there is no other typeface quite like Quidic. The family can be used for many things, but not for text. For a "normalized" version of this typeface, see Qwatick.

Rosso is a condensed geometric Sans with a retro style, inspired by various typographic styles. It features the Roslyn Gothic structure, which was popularly used for the covers of Philip K. Dick's books in the 1970s. Rosso has 10 variants from Ultra Light to Black with their respective Italics. In addition, it is divided into two Subfamilies, Normal and Alt. The normal one remains faithful to the proportions of Roslyn Gothic and classic geometric fonts, while the Alternative version expands its round shapes, generating a striking and unique rhythm and contrast, classic of Art Deco fonts. Arsinoe is a condensed geometric typeface noted for their unorthodox long ascenders and low x-height. Family consists of five different weights plus two special versions accompanied by their italic version. The Arsinoe type family includes extended Latin characters, ligatures, lining figures, OSF (Old Style Figures), scientific inferiors and many OpenType features. From poster design to editorial layout, Arsinoe is intended for a wide range of uses but use in small sizes are not recommended. Important technical notice: Combining diacritical marks (U+0300, U+0301, U+0303, U+0309, U+0323) are only 'compatibility characters' for codepage 'MS Windows 1258 Vietnamese'. Combining diacritical marks (U+0312, U+0315, U+0326) are only 'compatibility characters' for Czech, Latvian, Romanian and Slovak language. OpenType features 'Mark to Base' and 'Mark to Mark' is not supported. Kerning is prepared as single ('flat') table for maximum possible compatibility with older software.

Inspired by New Transitional and Egyptian fonts, Tanger Serif has elements of a sturdy work-horse text face and finely detailed headline font. A wide variety of widths and weights support many text sizes. Typically Narrow is used in headlines, Medium in body and Wide in smaller print. Nothing is predefined, though. By combining the right widths with the right weights this traditional approach can easily be challenged. Let’s take an oversized (over 10 pt) body copy for instance. In conjunction with using a bigger size to enhance readability, a narrow and slightly lighter weight will save space and brighten text color. Tanger Serif Narrow is a slim normal rather than a condensed face. As an Open Type “Pro” font each weight includes an expanded character set, small caps, old style figures, tabular figures, ligatures, fractions etc. All these are easily accessible through OpenType features.

Danish type designer Ole Søndergaard created this sans FontFont between 2000 and 2004. The family has 30 weights, ranging from Extra Light to Ultra in Condensed, Normal and Extended (including italics) and is ideally suited for advertising and packaging, editorial and publishing, logo, branding and creative industries as well as wayfinding and signage. FF Signa provides advanced typographical support with features such as ligatures, small capitals, alternate characters, case-sensitive forms, fractions, and super- and subscript characters. It comes with a complete range of figure set options – oldstyle and lining figures, each in tabular and proportional widths. As well as Latin-based languages, the typeface family also supports the Cyrillic writing system. This FontFont is a member of the FF Signa super family, which also includes FF Signa Correspondence, FF Signa Serif, FF Signa Serif Stencil, and FF Signa Stencil. In 2002, FF Signa received the Danish Design award.

Novel Mono Pro is the monospaced typeface family within the largely extended award winning Novel Collection, also containing Novel Pro, Novel Sans Pro, Novel Sans Condensed Pro, Novel Sans Rounded Pro and Novel Sans Office Pro. ITC Motter Corpus was designed by the Austrian type designer Othmar Motter in 1993 to combine the display advantages of a sans serif extra bold design with the legibility of a roman weight. The Motter Corpus is available in the weights regular and condensed regular. The capitals with their strong strokes display slight irregularities and natural looking outlines. When used in very large point sizes the tiny serifs become noticeable. Distinguishing characteristics of this typeface are the unusual design of the g with its upward reaching ear and that of the capital C, whose curve ends in an angular stroke in its upper third. Almost, but not quite, a sans serif, the typeface has diminutive serifs which, along with its modulated weight contrasts, make ITC Motter Corpus remarkable legible in display applications and will give text a nostalgic feel. A similar typeface is Linotype Bariton.

Gothiks Round is the rounded version of Gothiks. It is a narrow 6-weight display sans-serif influenced by Texturas. The rhythm and verticality of Texturas can be easily identified on the letters with diagonal strokes like A N M K k V v W w X x Y y Z z: here they are all vertical. This kind of morphology was chosen because it accepts condensation in a very natural way, giving to this sans-serif a very unique personality. The intermediate weights can be used for short texts while extreme weights are excellent for big sizes. It has an extensive character set—with extensive language support—and many OpenType features like fractions, small capitals and different figure sets. Default figures align with lowercase. The typeface’s name refers to the plural of the word Gothic, which in turn can refer to both sans-serifs or Blackletter, depending on geographic location.

PunkRocker is a bold condensed sans-serif with three versions and plenty of attitude. PunkRocker is awesome for creating strong tight square text boxes that scream for attention: it’s ideal for movie posters, single covers, as a supertool for fast graphic design. PunkRocker has three versions: Regular which is “clean”, Rough which has the worn-out appearance of a punk-poster or a gig poster that has been outside too long, and Stamp which has rugged outlines and print texture inside characters. Textured versions of PunkRocker have double characters for every standard character: Contextual Alternates will automatically replace any double letter with alternate that has different texture to avoid repetition and keep the appearance more authentic. In 1864, a new edition of ‘Labèrnia dictionary’ was published. The book is commonly known under this name as a homage to the author. The typeface used in this publication has been taken as the main reference for the design of a new type family. Labernia is a didone design that includes several variations in width, weight, and contrast. Labernia is a stylish typeface, which pushes its design features to the limit. The high-contrast strokes—seen in most modern typefaces—give a delicate softness to the titling cuts of Labernia. Meanwhile, the characters in the condensed version have a very compact body so they create a highly expressive text. Dignus was inspired in two clever and famous typefaces: Bank Gothic and Microgramma. Bank Gothic designed by Morris Fuller Benton for ATF in 1930. Microgramma typeface designed by Alessandro Butti and Aldo Novarese for Nebiolo in 1952. Kiosk is a prominent display typeface pair. It is a sturdy condensed sans serif and an eloquent brush script. In addition there are textured “print” versions of them both. Eurostile Next is Linotype's redrawn and expanded version of Aldo Novarese's 1962 design. This new version refers back to the original metal types and to its mid-century modern aesthetic of squarish characters and subtle curves. Eurostile Next brings back the gentle curves, which were lost in other digital versions, therefore regaining the spirit of the original design and its somewhat softer demeanor. The family has been greatly expanded, now consisting of five different weights: ultra light, light, regular, semibold, and bold. Along with the regular width, all weights also have extended and condensed versions. Stylistically, Eurostile Next is well suited for designs in the fashion of the 50's and 60's, yet it still has a remarkably new and contemporary feeling. Its numerous variations and typographic features are invaluable for projects ranging from extensive corporate branding to one-off posters and from large signage to small print text.

Galix is a technical sans designed to look futuristic without any of the retro appearance often found in this genre. It has a squarish, slightly condensed anatomy, and is characterized by thin joints and deep ink traps that add a sparkle to the otherwise monoline typeface. In the italic styles, these cuts are accentuated even more which creates a feeling of speed in the letterforms. Galix is optimized for display typography (the ascender height is the same as the cap height, and the spacing is somewhat tight) but the middle weights are very readable at smaller sizes, where I'd recommend adding a little tracking. OpenType features include ft and tt ligatures, stylistic sets/alternates, automatic fractions, tabular, superscript and subscript figures, case sensitive forms. Perfect for websites, apps, infographics, magazines and logotypes, Galix is technical but with a warmth and personality that is often missing from this genre.

DF Korolev is a 72 weight geometric sans serif family based on lettering by an anonymous Soviet graphic designer from the propaganda displays at the Communist Red Square parade in 1937. It has been named in honor of Sergey Pavlovich Korolyov, or Korolev, considered by many to be the father of practical astronomics. Rational and robust, it is also elegant and refined. Tracings done in Illustrator over a photograph featuring this type pinned down some of the basic character shapes. These were then imported into FontLab, where the full glyph complement was developed. The lower-case has been designed from scratch, and adheres to the structural logic of the uppercase as closely as possible. The complete Korolev super-family includes standard, italic, condensed, and compressed versions, each in five weights. Try the ‘rounded’ and ‘rough’ companion families. The Alternate families come with a double-story “a”.

The typography on a 1964 children’s activity book published by Whitman entitled “Build with Stencils” was in a bold, condensed design. The only problem was that the ‘rails’ [the parts that divide a letter into stencil pieces] were too narrow and would disappear at smaller point sizes. Widening the ‘rails’ just a bit greatly improved the appearance of the stencil characters. Play Day Stencil JNL is now available in both regular and oblique versions. In its day, the Whitman Publishing Company of Racine, Wisconsin published dozens of activity books for children, including a number of them with stencils. The company was a division of Western Publishers from the early 1900s through the 1970s, but went through a number of sales and name changes. Currently [as Whitman once again] it is owned by Anderson Press, and is known for its line of coin folders and books on coin collecting.

Saigon is a minimalist condensed serif family. With clean lines and tight curves, its personality dwells in its simplicity making it a timeless editorial typeface.
