Brecksville is a condensed grotesk typeface that takes inspiration from early German designs of the mid-19th century. It was designed as part of my current research into grotesk typefaces and different letterforms, as part of my dissertation research, “Perfected Letters: German Grotesk in the Nineteenth Century”, which focuses on the role of German design in typography. The Brecksville font family provides a wide range of weights, ranging from light to bold for both its rounded display style and more rugged sharp style. Both its styles feature the same horizontal proportions and metrics so they can freely be combined with no spacing issues. Brecksville's visually punchy condensed style and sharp edges, allows it to stand out on the screen – at almost any size. Its black composition also brings out the details needed in magazine and tabloid headlines, while maintaining readability throughout. The rounded display version is ideal for posters and other uses where you want something eye catching but not too hard on the eyes.

Annonce is a digitization and expansion of a 1912 Johannes Wagner Foundry classic called Aurora Grotesk, which also circulated later on in metal under the name Annonce. Bold, extended and clear as a bell, Annonce stood out as the definite big sign font long before the Helveticas of the world. With angled cuts on some of the letters, it also shows humanistic traits that make it more appealing than any other face in its genre. The Annonce set comes in two fonts, a regular and an italic, and includes a very large character set that accommodates almost all Latin-based languages, including Turkish, Baltic, Celtic, Maltese, Esperanto, and the languages of Central and Eastern Europe.

Aperture Display is a san-serif typeface which combines the “standard” forms of grotesks and the modern takes on the use of ink traps. It is a display typeface designed mainly for branding and printed matter.

Zoelander is an experimental geometric font. The distinctive feature of this font is having an irregular x-height. This will look unusual, but if you are looking for something unique and looks different, Zoelander can be an alternative to making an attractive typography. Zoelander comes in two versions, Zoelander Regular and Zoelander TF. Each has a bold and rounded style. Zoelander Regular is a sans serif font with irregular x-height but if you want the same x-height size, the stylistic alternates feature allows you to do it. Recta was one of Aldo Novarese’s earliest contributions to the massive surge of the European sans serif genre that was booming in the middle of the 20th century. Initially published just one year after Neue Haas Grotesk came out of Switzerland and Univers out of France, and at a time when Akzidenz Grotesk and DIN were riding high in Germany and Gill Sans was making waves in Great Britain, it was intended to compete with all of those foundry faces, and later came to be known as the “Italian Helvetica”. It maintains traditional simplicity as its high point of functionality, while showing minimal infusion of humanistic traits. It shows that the construct of the grotesk does not have to be rigid, and can indeed have a touch of Italian flair. While the original Recta family lacked a proper suite of weights and widths, this digital version comes in five weights, corresponding italics, four condensed fonts, and small caps in four weights. This font features the seldom-seen alternate characters for Blockschrift, one of the pioneering Swiss-style grotesks, released by the Genzsch & Heyse foundry of Hamburg in 1897. Both flavors of this font feature the 1252 Latin, 1250 Central European, 1254 Turkish and 1257 Baltic character sets.

Ridley is a calligraphic-influenced, decorative, medieval font combining Roman and Gothic forms. It is named for Nicholas Ridley and similar in style to Staunton’s Latimer font. Ridley and Latimer were protestants burned together at the stake in 1555 during the reign of Queen “Bloody” Mary.

ITC Motter Corpus was designed by the Austrian type designer Othmar Motter in 1993 to combine the display advantages of a sans serif extra bold design with the legibility of a roman weight. The Motter Corpus is available in the weights regular and condensed regular. The capitals with their strong strokes display slight irregularities and natural looking outlines. When used in very large point sizes the tiny serifs become noticeable. Distinguishing characteristics of this typeface are the unusual design of the g with its upward reaching ear and that of the capital C, whose curve ends in an angular stroke in its upper third. Almost, but not quite, a sans serif, the typeface has diminutive serifs which, along with its modulated weight contrasts, make ITC Motter Corpus remarkable legible in display applications and will give text a nostalgic feel. A similar typeface is Linotype Bariton.

TWA Assembly Sans is not your standard workhorse sans. This is the rounded, softer version of Canada Type's popular Wagner Grotesk. Originally done in 2011 for a global publisher, this font has already seen plenty of magazine and book cover action, perhaps even more than the sharp condensed face that spawned it.
