I made Cut Along by stealing some red cardboard from my kids (red, because they didn’t have any black…) and cutting out the glyphs one by one with a pair of scissors. I then pasted the shapes onto white paper, scanned them and turned them into a font. Cut Along is a very nice font for ads, book covers, packaging and children’s books. Enjoy!

The font is named after the Armenian writer Theodoros Grigor Lapchinchian (Armenian Թեոդորոս Գրիգորի Լափչինճյան: March 5, 1873, Constantinople — May 24, 1928), who in 1912 published book "Type and Letter" (Armenian: Տիպ ու տառ), dedicated to 1500th anniversary of the creation of the Armenian alphabet and the 400th anniversary of Armenian printing. The letter shapes are influenced by some Armenian fonts of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Inspired by bold and rounded typefaces on signs from the 1970s, Salsiccia can promote both your hot dog stand and your international toy store enterprise. Its boldness and roundness is combined with classical proportions, with wide letters — like the O — next to little nubby ones — like the T. This not only looks nice, but helps us even out the white spaces across words and sentences.

The other day I drank a glass of white wine, which was partly made with Colombard grapes. When I created this font, I needed a bit of a ‘posh’ name, so I settled on Colombard. Colombard is a nice, handwritten font. Quite elegant, but cheeky at the same time. It comes with extensive language support and a full set of Discretionary Ligatures for double letter combinations.

Spur Wide JNL was modeled from an example of hand lettering from the antique French alphabet book L'Art du Tracé Rationnel de la Lettre. Heavy Roman style letters with spurs (often referred to as Latin) were most popular with sign painters and show card writers in the early part of the 20th century. Spur Wide JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

TpLlum is a typeface designed by TwoPoints for a festival in Barcelona called ‘Montjuïc de Nit’. Llum means light in Catalan. In the Montjuïc de Nit project the font was used in white over a dark grey background, letting the light of a backlit poster shine through. For this purpose the typeface had to be very bright, which was made possible by its heavy cut.

Father's Day, or June 17 of this year, is in the middle of Argentinian winter. And like people do on wintery Sunday mornings, I was bundled up in bed with too many covers, pillows and comforters. Feeling good and not thinking about anything in particular, Father's Day was nowhere in the vicinity of my mind. My eleven year old son, Matías, came into the room with a handmade present for me. Up to this point, my Father's Day gift history was nothing unusual. Books, socks, hand-painted wooden spoons, the kind of thing any father would expect from his pre-teen son. So you can understand when I say I was bracing myself to fake excitement at my son's present. But this Father's Day was special. I didn't have to fake excitement. I was in fact excited beyond my own belief. Matí's handmade present was a complete alphabet drawn on an A4 paper. Grungy, childish, and sweeter than a ton of honey. He'd spent days making it, three-dimensioning the letters, wiggle-shadowing them. Incredible. A common annoyance for graphic designers is explaining to people, even those close to them, what they do for a living. You have to somehow make it understandable that you are a visual communicator, not an artist. Part of the problem is the fact that "graphic designer" and "visual communicator" are just not in the dictionary of standard professions out there. If you're a plumber, you can wrap all the duties of your job with 3.5 words: I'm a plumber. If you're a graphic designer, no wrapper, 3.5 or 300 words, will ever cover it. I've spent many hours throughout the years explaining to my own family and friends what I do for a living, but most of them still come back and ask what it is exactly that I do for dough. When you're a type designer, that problem magnifies itself considerably. When someone asks you what you do for a living, you start looking for the nearest exit, but none of the ones you can find is any good. All the one-line descriptions are vague, and every single one of them queues a long, one-sided conversation that usually ends with someone getting too drunk listening, or too tired of talking. Now imagine being a type designer, with a curious eleven year old son. The kid is curious as to why daddy keeps writing huge letters on the computer screen. Let's go play some ball, dad. As soon as I finish working, son. He looks over my shoulder and sees a big twirly H on the screen. To him it looks like a game, like I'm not working. And I have to explain it to him again. This Father's Day, my son gave me the one present that tells me he finally understands what I do for a living. Perhaps he is even comfortable with it, or curious enough about that he wants to try it out himself. Either way, it was the happiest Father's Day I've ever had, and I'm prouder of my son than of everything else I've done in my life. This is Matí's font. I hope you find it useful.

It's been said that creativity requires ten parts to perspiration to one part inspiration. But not always. According to its creator, Mira Vucko, ITC Needlescript was designed in one breath." An accomplished lettering artist, Vucko was sketching letters one afternoon. "I was using a calligraphy nib and was drawing the alphabet without much thought," she recalls. "When I allowed the down strokes of a couple of letters to fall below the baseline, I realized that I had created the impression of movement. I kept drawing letters in this fashion and did the same with horizontal lines. I added a firm ending to the descenders. Instead of dots above the 'i' and 'j,' I placed strokes in the opposite direction." In this way, the first characters that were to become ITC Needlescript emerged. The finished design is a lively, distinctive alphabet that produces a striking texture on the page. Letters intertwine and overlap to create a sense of movement and graphic intensity, especially when reversed out of a dark background. Vucko lives, works and was educated in Zagreb, Croatia. She lived in France and Sweden while in her twenties, but then returned to Croatia to work as a graphic designer for the country's largest newspaper. It was here that her passion for type and typography was born. Vucko has since gone on to become one of Croatia's leading graphic designers, and has won many awards for her advertising and packaging design. Vucko recommends that ITC Needlescript be used for "titling, lively but 'thorny' content, and anywhere that a little typographic drama is called for.""

German graphic designer Ralf Weissmantel created Boogie in 2003. Boogie is an ironic reference to pop art, and to disco lettering from the 1960s and 70s. Its round forms and outlines evoke the flashing, pulsating lights and music of that era. Shipping with five different, width-compatible fonts, the Boogie typeface has four different components: an outlined letterform is the base element, and forms the first font. Three additional fonts may be layered over top of this base, surrounding the first font with up to three bubble-outlines. In graphics applications like Adobe PhotoShop or Illustrator, these elements can each be assigned different colors. There is also a fifth font, which contains the base outlined letterform pre-surrounded by three additional outlines of the same color. Boogie works best in large headline, display and signage applications, where its forms can be clearly seen and enjoyed. When different colored layers are applied, text set in Boogie will gyrate and jive across the page! Weissmantel has worked as an art director for various international advertising agencies, and has led Corporate Design projects for firms such as Grey and MetaDesign. His design work, honored internationally, has been included in the typography collection of the Museum for Art and Trade in Hamburg. He is currently teaching graphic design at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences. Weissmantel has been an associate of the United Designers Network since August 2002. Etalage Script was drawn for the first time in the year 2000, based on a early 20th century lettering stencil with what farmer Boelema at Lalleweer stenciled his grainsacks. Linotype Impacta is part of the Take Type Library, which features the winners of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contest from 1994 to 1997. Dutch artist Marc Lubbers designed Impacta with little contrast between strokes, rather, he depended on the slope of the strokes to give his font character. Impacta can be used in small or large point sizes and its constructed forms bring a modern feel to graphic design.
