Naming this typeface Troika, the Russian word meaning "group of three", seemed apt because the starting point in this design process was a three sided letter 'O'. This triangular type styling became a template guide for the rest of the character set. Troika is a highly distinctive, ultra modern typeface with idiosyncratic letterforms that make for striking headlines, particularly at large display sizes. Challenging, futuristic and experimental, always unique, and with caps as characterful as the lower case. Troika being derived from the French 'Triangle' and the Latin 'Triangulus' it seemed only fitting to design three weights: Light, Medium & Bold.

A one-time co-worker of mine sometimes used a fanciful inkpen-style script in display-lettering situations. I liked it a lot. "Phil," I says, "why not do the whole alphabet, maybe a few little dingbats, and I'll make a font." Well, one day he presented me with a stack of posterboard; he'd done some letters, all right -- hundreds of 'em. I managed to boil these down into a typeface called Treefrog, a name that seems to match its organic jumble, its tall x-height, its left- and right-leaning stems, its thick and thin strokes. Gene Gable is known to many graphic artists from his on-line column 'Scanning Around with Gene', which was on the Creative Pro website for a number of years, covering a variety of topics ranging from printing techniques to paper ephemera; water applied decals to lettering stencils. Sandbox was inspired by designs created by the Robert D. DeLittle Foundry in York, England, sometime after 1888. At the time, the fonts were simply grouped under the title #260 in the DeLittle catalog. This new font family was completely redrawn and engineered by Steve Jackaman, and several additional weights were designed to give the family improved flexibility. Sandbox was given its new name because it showcases a playful and bold feel, and contains many fun alternate characters and ligatures. It excels in display, but can still lend a carefree feel to subhead and text sizes.

The other day I had to login to a page several times, and as security I had to check the "I am not a robot" box. Actually, I think I did a login at that particular page like 30 times that day...and in the end I was thinking "Come on, you should know by now that I am not a robot" And even though I thought it was a repetitious hassle I figured that I needed to name a font "I am not a robot" - and not a robotic-like one, but a sweet and funny cartoonish one! :)

I grew up with the ‘Save The Whales’ slogan: I remember watching the news and seeing little Greenpeace dinghies taking on huge Japanese whalers, and activists clinging on for dear life. I haven’t heard that slogan for a while: maybe because whaling is soooo 1890’s, but also maybe because the world has other problems to address. Out of respect for the ‘Save The Whale’ activists, I named this fattish font Whale Song. Whale Song is a robust comic font. It was especially created for book covers, product packaging and posters and, of course, it comes with a whale of diacritics.

For decades, the Persian-born Naghi Naghashian has been working as a graphic designer and illustrator in Germany. Arian™ is his first commercial Arabic typeface. Pumpkin Boy is my laid back comic font with a jumpy x-height and crunchy lines. If you choose to write in uppercase only, the letters are a bit less funky, but still crunchy and great for headlines. The 1960s was the most tumultuous decade of the 20th century. Telegraph font family was developed on the base of scanned images of telegraph printing machines. Drop Caps happen. They started off life as decorated initials way back when in the days of illuminated manuscripts. Then printing came and they became the work of the rubricators and then somewhere soon after printing began, at least by the 1490’s, they were printed directly into the text. This then is a collection of over a hundred glyphs from that closing decade of the Incunabula period. All of them are based on examples found in the works printed by Michael Wenssler in Basel. This font also contains a few useful pointing hands and a set of spacing characters.

Medina Gothic is a three-weight sans serif inspired by Latin American moderne. I bought a pineapple the other day, because my kids really like pineapples. Ok, ok, it may not sound like something special to you - but keep in mind that pineapples in Holland are an expensive fruit. We mostly get the canned ones (which I don’t like too much). Anyway, when I was slicing up the pineapple, I thought I should name a font after this bizarre, but tasty, fruit. And so I did. Pineapple Daydream is a handmade serif. I came across an article in which the author warned about the growing pile of technojunk. It appears we throw away 50 million tonnes of unwanted gadgets EVERY YEAR - and, yes, that number is growing as these are the figures for 2012. 50 million tonnes - just think of that! The new font I was working on had a squarish look - almost computer like, so I decided to call it technojunk. French Art Deco lettering found within the pages of the 1934 publication L'Art du Tracé Rationnel de la Lettre (roughly translated to “The Rational Path Art of the Letter”) have provided a number of designs well-suited for digital revival. A hand lettered sans with varying character widths was the basis for Colmar JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. As the source of the lettering design was a French publication, the typeface is named for the city of Colmar, which (according to Wikipedia) is the third-largest commune of the Alsace region in north-eastern France.

Citrine is a study in curves, based upon word-processing and in-game text. Valfieris Aged looks as though it just came off an antique printing press. Ink has pooled in the serifs and on the corners, and the metal did not make full contact with the paper in center of the letters. Valfieris Aged includes a full set of OpenType alternates for every character in the English alphabet, swash alternates, ending swashes, titling alternates, oldstyle figures, historical forms, small caps and 64 discretionary ligatures. These ligatures are used to alter the appearance of the type so that the printing appears realistic and without any duplicate letters to detract from the antique appearance.
