The result is a versatile, hybrid slab-serif design. Unlike ""geometric"" slab serif designs, Chaparral has varying letter proportions that give it an accessible and friendly appearance in all weights from light to bold. And because it is a multiple master typeface with an optical axis (ranging from 7 to 72 points), Chaparral is clear and legible in smaller text settings while remaining subtle and lively at display sizes. Chaparrals highly functional design is surprisingly beautiful, the perfect choice for correspondence, as well as book, poster and newsletter design.

  3. Business Helpers JNL by Jeff Levine, $29.00
Duluth, Minnesota's Horace P. Brouillet's "Typeps" catalogs offered a wide range of images covering numerous subjects, as well as cartoons, catch words and automotive logos. Many of these images have been reproduced in a number of royalty-free clip art publications over the years. Twenty-Six of these newly-redrawn catch words are found within Business Helpers JNL in two styles. 5. Doctrine by Barnbrook Fonts, $75.00
A contemporary sans-serif typeface with an agreeable character, Doctrine Sans is the moderate comrade of the display typeface Doctrine Stencil. From the obscure starting point of the North Korean national airline livery, Doctrine was developed to encompass a series of more mature typographic influences. Doctrine draws influence from the classic mid-century neo-grotesques and, while it retains a sense of crisp modernity, it exudes a more contemporary and human character. The rounded, lighter weights speak with graceful composure while the large x-height, low contrast and squarer, heavier, weights give Doctrine an affable charm and a persuasive voice. The alternate characters borrow elements from humanist and geometric styles and provide an idiosyncratic, experimental counterpart to the primary character set.

  7. Sinova by Linotype, $29.99
The simplified letterforms of Sinova™ make it an ideal choice for those settings where you really don't want the type to shout too loudly or draw unnecessary attention to itself. Christian Mengelt has drawn five weights: Thin, Light, Regular, Medium, and Bold, all with complimentary obliques. Sinova is an OpenType family that is unfussy, functional, and legible, with extensive language support (some 48 languages). Thanks to its clear and straightforward design and dynamic rhythm, one of the main characteristics of Sinova is its excellent legibility, irrespective of whether it is used in longer passages as a stylish book script or for text in the digitalised office environment. But Sinova also happily adapts itself to being used as a titling font in combination with Renaissance Antique serif typefaces. For this reason, another potential application for the font family is as a graceful and elegant titling and text script for job printing and in publicity texts. A heavy weight - softened sans serif that is not only friendly, but easy on the eyes. Good Eatin was inspired by the title screen from the 1942 Warner Bros. cartoon titled, "Dog Tired". 31. Flyoika by Ingrimayne Type, $9.00
Flyoika is a slab serif family with a fairly low x-height, long ascenders, and considerable contrast. The family has five weights, each with an italics and it can be used for either display or text. Flyoika was not designed to meet a particular need but rather out of curiosity. Years ago I had designed two slab serif families, FlyHigh and Euroika, that I recently noticed had a lot of similarities and I wondered what a blend of the two would look like. Several corresponding characters in the two families are considerably different and in cleaning up the results, I usually opted for simplicity. The name "Flyoika" reflects these origins.
  32. Burford by Kimmy Design, $10.00
Burford is a font family that I sketched while traveling through Europe. I was mesmerized by all the unique typography that was showcased throughout the five countries I visited. Inspired by all that I had seen, I found myself spending 4-5 hours per day in Amsterdam’s Vondel Park drawing characters. Once back in the states I digitalized Burford, deciding it would make for a beautiful layer-based font. Burford Pro package comes with all 18 layering fonts including 5 base layers, 3 top layers, 5 bottom layers and 2 sets of graphic elements. They are strategically made to build on top of each other, creating a cohesive and easy to use layer-based family. Each font also comes with a set of Stylistic Alternatives for letters A C E F G H P Q R. Burford Basic package is created for users who don’t have access to premiere design programs (such as Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc) and are unable to use the layering effect. Burford can still be a powerful tool as each font can also be used on its own. It includes every font file not needed for the layering effect. (Include 13 fonts - Burford Basic, Dots, DropShadow, Extras Set A, Extras Set B, Extrude B, Extrude C, Inline, Line, Marquee, Outline, Stripes A and Stripes B). The Burford Extras set uses all basic keyboard characters - around 100 total elements per set. They are designed to go specifically with Burford and complement its varying styles perfectly. The set includes: banners, borders, corners, arrows, line breaks, catchwords, anchors and many more!

  35. Nimbus Sans L by URW Type Foundry, $89.99
The first versions of Nimbus Sans have been designed and digitized in the 1980s for the URW SIGNUS sign-making system. Highest precision of all characters (1/100 mm accuracy) as well as spacing and kerning were required because the fonts should be cut in any size in vinyl or other material used for sign-making. During this period three size ranges were created for text (T), the display (D) and poster (P) for small, medium and very large font sizes. In addition, we produced a so-called L-version that was compatible to Adobe’s PostScript version of Helvetica. Nimbus was also the product name of a URW-proprietary renderer for high quality and fast rasterization of outline fonts, a software provided to the developers of PostScript clone RIPs (Hyphen, Harlequin, etc.) back then.

  38. Shout by HiH, $12.00
Shout is a “Hey, Look at ME” font. It is an attention-getting font for posters, flyers and ads. Its lineage includes the Haas Type Foundry’s 19th century advertising font, Kompakte Grotesk, which Jan Tschichold (1902-1974) dryly described as “extended sans serif” and which graphic designer Roland Holst (1868-1938) would have disapprovingly referred to as a “shout,” as opposed to the quiet presentation of information that he believed was the proper function of advertising. In 1963 Letraset released what appears to be an updated variation in multiple weights designed by Frederick Lambert called Compacta. Shout draws heavily on Compacta, as well as other similar fonts of the 50s and 60s like Eurostile Bold Condensed and Permanent Headline. In weight, it falls about halfway between Compacta Bold and Compacta Black, but with a relatively heavier lower case that is not so easily pushed around by the upper case. After all, one can shout while sitting down. Shout is the first font released with our new encoding, as noted in the All_customer_readme.txt. The Euro symbol has been moved to position 128 and the Zcaron/zcaron have been added at positions 142/158 respectively. Otherwise, Shout has our usual idiosyncratic glyph selection, with the German ch/ck instead of braces, a long s instead of the Greek mu and our usual Hand-in-Hand symbol. There are also left and right glyphs of a big mouth ]ing (135/137) and left and right glyphs of an angry man shouting (172/177). Please use Shout with discretion. Folks get tired of being yelled out. After awhile, they stop listening. Shout ML represents a major extension of the original release, with the following changes: 1. Added glyphs for the 1250 Central Europe, the 1252 Turkish and the 1257 Baltic Code Pages. Add glyphs to complete standard 1252 Western Europe Code Page. Special glyphs relocated and assigned Unicode codepoints, some in Private Use area. Total of 355 glyphs. 2. Added OpenType GSUB layout features: pnum, ornm, liga, hist & salt. 3. Added 266 kerning pairs. 4. Revised vertical metrics for improved cross-platform line spacing. 5. Revised hyphen, dashes & math operators. 6. Minor refinements to various glyph outlines. 7. Inclusion of both tabular & proportional numbers. Please note that some older applications may only be able to access the Western Europe character set (approximately 221 glyphs). The zip package includes two versions of the font at no extra charge. There is an OTF version which is in Open PS (Post Script Type 1) format and a TTF version which is in Open TT (True Type)format. Use whichever works best for your applications.
