CA Cula Superfat is a distinctive fatty typeface, mainly intended for display purposes. You will find out that it looks best in extremely large sizes, or in very small ones. Whatever you do, avoid the ordinary and expectable. It’s not only beautifully fat, it’s also useful. Natalya is a flashy and rhythmic script. The script has more space between characters than most for better legibility, and the basis point for the ornate swirls is the golden ratio. This makes for an especially harmonious typeface with timeless appeal. The typeface includes three alternates with variations of the ascenders and descenders. All three fonts include OpenType ligatures, oldstyle figures and ending swashes for an even more elaborate appearance.

It could be you’ve never heard of Kapsalon and I will forgive you for that. Kapsalon is a Dutch word, meaning ‘hairdresser’s’. Since 2003 it is also a very popular snack food, which consists of french fries, döner kebab, lettuce, sambal, garlic sauce and melted Gouda cheese, served in an aluminium tray. I have to admit that I have never eaten a Kapsalon myself, as I am not too fond of fast food. I named this font package Kapsalon, because, like its namesake, it consists of several unrelated elements that work really well when combined.

Fugues is a modern monospace display font. The typeface is made from a basic line, circle and square geometry. Fugues Regular and Italic are inspired by straight geometric shapes and Fugues Rounded and Rounded Italic are inspired by organic geometry similar to works by Antoni Gaudí and Alphonse Mucha. The name is derived from the Latin “Fuga” meaning flight and its current meaning “compositions of many parts on a short theme and using counterpoint.” Fugues is great for display work, logos, film titles, sports, monograms, headings and posters.

Neuch is a neat typeface for greeting cards, children's books, labels and signs, handmade goodies packaging, and other cheerful designs. Drawn with a sharp-tipped ink pen, the letters kick their legs up and down, stretch out their tails, and hop along gaily, as if not obeying any rules. The cute characters look like they are one big family—they get into arguments, mix noisily and good-humoredly, push each other, yet always stick together. Neuch can speak several languages and has ligatures, decorative elements, and even a cat and a dog.

Retrouvailles is a French word, which means ‘the feeling one gets after reuniting after a long time’. This script font was based on a couple of handwritten letters and postcards and my own imagination. I used a drawing tablet for the ligatures and the connecting strokes. Retrouvailles comes in 3 distinct styles: the slightly slanted regular style, an Italic style and a back slanted style. Retrouvailles has an abundance of goodies under the hood: it comes with a lot of ligatures and all the diacritics you could poke a stick at.

Village was originally designed by Frederic Goudy in 1903 for Kuppenheimer & Company for advertising use, but it was decided it would be too expensive to cast. It was later adopted as the house face for Goudy's Village Press. The design was very much influenced by William Morris's 'Golden' type. Paul Hunt began working on a digital version of Frederic Goudy's Village type prior coming to P22 in 2006 for an internship (which evolved into a staff designer position at P22.) Around this time, The Tampa Book Arts Studio was looking for a digital version of Village to complement with a letterpress edition of a book called "The Rich Mouse" by JJ Lankes. Many years later the Rich Mouse project has been completed, so we decided to release the Village type on the same day as the release of the Rich Mouse Book!

Some time ago, when we were working on our Merrivale family, it occurred to us that an adaptation of the design, incorporating selected Blackletter elements, would be in the best traditions of 19th and 20th century blackletter revivals, which combine all the spirit of the middle ages with modern legibility-think of Goudy Medieval as an example. In the case of Merrivaux (best quality faux-medieval name there!) we've produced a typeface which has the ready legibility of Roman titling, but which gives a subtle blackletter feel. The regular form of Merrivaux is incised with a visible midline, a solid form with identical metrics is also offered. Both forms include a range of opentype features including ligatures, fractions, old style numerals and terminal forms. Merrivaux is ideal for posters, signage and design work, where a touch of that 'Olde-Worlde' feel is needed.

Kidela is an exuberant and eccentric serif typeface reminiscent of hand painted signage. Kidela features tight kerning and spacing, and some interesting effects can be achieved by adjusting the tracking. In 1937, Morris Fuller Benton designed Empire, titling capitals that became the headline style for Vogue magazine. In 1989, David Berlow revived it for Publish magazine, adding an italic and a lowercase, both unavailable in the original. ITC Eastwood is the work of British designer Martin Archer and is named for Clint Eastwood. Archer was looking for a plain oldstyle typeface with open lower case forms and used Stempel Garamond as his starting point, although the result ended up well beyond its origins. In small point sizes the typeface looks interestingly rough while at display sizes it looks like a 16th century French typeface and its unique details come forward.

This is a squared sans serif font family developed out of a taller Bank Gothic model plus a true lower case with many OpenType features and over 600 characters: Caps, lower case, small caps, ligatures, discretionary ligatures, swashes, small cap figures, old style figures, numerators, denominators, accent characters (including CE), ordinal numbers (1st-infinity: lining and oldstyle), and so on. Acuta is a new all-purpose text serif with a good readability and a contemporary, robust look thanks to its low-medium contrast. The differences between thicks and thins are less strongly marked than in oldstyle text faces; yet the diagonal stress needed to facilitate reading is partly provided by the letter shape itself: sharp angles and italic construction give the right dynamism to the text. Acuta becomes very distinctive as a headline, while its big x-height makes it suitable for texts at rather small sizes too.
