Clear Prairie Dawn is an original humanist sans serif family based on the designer's own printing. Designed for use as a text face, as a humanist sans it shares some of the characteristics you might notice in other such faces as Optima, Gill Sans or Stone Sans. Usually, the condensed version of a face comes after the regular design. Not with gogo squat. After gogo big, I thought how strong a regular version would be. A nice clean gutsy face. Alice is a formal fantasy font. It’s inspired in the fairy tales and magical lands that my mother used to tell me as a child when I went to sleep. The capitals are really nice and complex, while the minuscules are cleaner for easier reading. The style Curly uses some features of the normal uppercase letters in the lowercase ones. There are some minor, yet noticable, flaws in a number of characters that will need correction for signage/vinyl letter cuts (characters appx. 2-1/2" and larger).

William Caslon (1692-1766) laid the foundation for English typefounding, when he cut his first roman face in London in 1722. He modeled his designs on late seventeenth-century Dutch types; thus his typefaces are classified as Old Styles. The original Caslon punches have been preserved, enabling a perfect recutting of his faces. Notice the hollow in the apex of A and the two full serifs or beaks in the C. The italic capitals are irregular in their inclination. The Caslon font family is distinctive for use in subheadings or continuous text.

A rather narrow and compact design, Monotype Clearface combines both old style and antique characteristics. The lowercase letters are tall, the ascenders and descenders quite short. The intention was to produce a typeface that was easy to read in small sizes, hence the name. Monotype Clearface Bold was first cut for mechanical composition in 1922, and was based on the Clearface Gothic design created by Morris Fuller Benton for ATF in 1910. Although designed as a text face, Monotype Clearface is now more commonly used in advertising and display work.

Goudy Sans Bold was originally designed by Fredric Goudy in 1922 as a less formal "gothic" and finished in 1929. The light was designed in 1930 and the Light Italic in 1931. Alternate letterforms are included in these three Goudy designs which are digitized true to their original design. In 2006, designer Colin Kahn drew "LTC Goudy Sans Regular" which is a medium weight version intended for text purposes. Kahn has also designed an experimental "LTC Goudy Sans Hairline" which has a skeletal almost mono-width stroke and results in a surprisingly elegant display face.

The Tang family came to be, when I started studying fonts made for use in very small point sizes, like Bell Gothic. I studied the use of ink traps and went to town with them. Instead of just using them for their purpose: trapping ink to prevent the type getting blotted; I used them as a design feature. With those features Tang works very well in both headline and text use. I use it as a house type, and I've already seen it in a beer and cider labels.

A blackletter font tending towards the gothic which was released by Klingspor, Offenbach am Main, in 1937. Claudius can be used for clerical as well as for secular purposes and shows a strong character of its own. The original esthetic atrocities of placing the dieresis within the letters A and O - due to former German industry standards - were abolished. Allow the font's beauty spread by giving it enough leading between the lines. This font contains various useful ligatures, and by activating the Ordinals feature and typing 'N', 'o' and period you get an oldstyle numbersign.

ITC Florinda was designed by Luis Siquot in 1997 and consists exclusively of capital letters. The basic forms were influenced by old favorites like Franklin Gothic, but Siquot ornamented the classic forms with symmetrical knobs which look like pieces of lead left over after pouring the forms. This gives the figures a playful, constructed look. When used in a text, the horizontal lines seem to come together to draw a fine line through the middle of the lines of text, giving it an ornamented character. ITC Florinda should be used exclusively for headlines or display.

When creating this font, Bank Gothic originally influenced me, however when I made the square shapes lower case the font didn't retain its sophistication, so it was designed narrower. The result is this warm and soft looking font that works for all types of design, from posters and fliers to logos and business cards. Sola also features standard ligature, stylistic alternates, titling characters with extended width, and a set of standard pictograms.

I have always been frustrated when looking for a bold condensed face. The choices were the usual? Helvetica Bold Condensed, Univers Bold Condensed or Alternate Gothic #2... all rather dated. I was looking for a really unique, clean, uncluttered sans serif face, so I decided to design one. I have since adapted it to many logo designs. Leavenworth possessed unusual artistic abilities, and his treatment of the letterform counters as narrow slits made it the only wood type of its kind displayed during the nineteenth century.
