Duluth, Minnesota's Horace P. Brouillet Syndicate (later known as Syndicuts, Inc.) was one of a number of stock cuts providers to the letterpress trade in the decades preceding paper, then electronic clip art. Brouillet's "Typeps" catalogs offered a wide range of images covering numerous subjects, as well as cartoons, catch words and automotive logos. Many of these images have been reproduced in a number of royalty-free clip art publications over the years. Twenty-Six of these newly-redrawn catch words are found within Business Helpers JNL in two styles. On the capital keys are the original white-on-black designs, modeled from the vintage source material. The lower case keys have the phrases separated from the decorative ovals and are in black type.

Vaquero is a Wild West style font. It is characteristic of a lot of western era signage, with super-narrow characters and unusual decorative spurs and serifs. There are some similarities in Vaquero to some of our other western fonts. It sort of ties together the historic tradition of western era type and the more fanciful tradition of romantic type derived from the era of the wild west. It has the width, height and general letter shapes of Academy, but the decorative elements are similar to more fanciful fonts like Riudoso. The result is very evocative of the old west.

Prague was designed by Michael Gills, who was strongly influenced by the work of Czech designer Oldrich Menhart. It is a strong, angular roman typeface with classical overtones. The exciting vibrancy of Prague is suitable for a wide range of advertising work requiring a traditional or classical approach.

Tiresias was designed for subtitling by Dr. John Gill from the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB), in the United Kingdom. The Tiresias font is designed to have characters that are easy to distinguish from each other, especially important for the visually impaired. The following key factors were considered during the design process: character shapes, relative weight of character stokes, intercharacter spacing, and aspect ratios that affect the maximum size at which the type could be used. The benefits of the Tiresias font are greatest on lower resolution displays, such as televisions, train and airline information terminals, and low resolution displays on wireless communication and handheld devices. InfoFont is for printed instructions on public terminals where legibility is the primary consideration; these instructions are often read at a distance of 30 to 70 cm. Infofont is not designed for large quantities of text. The Tiresias LPfont is a large print typeface specifically designed for people with low vision. Large print publications should be designed to specifically help with reading problems, and should not just be an enlarged version of the ordinary print. The Tiresias LPfont family, made up of roman, italic, and bold weights, was designed to address and solve these issues. The RNIB developed PCfont for people with low vision to use on computer screens. It is designed for use at larger sizes only. PCfont includes delta hinting technology in the font to ensure pixel-perfect display at key sizes. Signfont is for fixed (not internally illuminated) signage. The recommended usage is white or yellow characters on a matt dark background. Note that the “Z” versions have slashed zeroes, and are identical in all other respects. These faces were developed together with Dr. John Gill of the National Institute of the Blind, Dr. Janet Silver; optometrist of Moorfields Eye Hospital, Chris Sharville of Laker Sharville Design Associates, and Peter O'Donnell; type consultant. Tiresias himself is a figure from Greek mythology, a blind prophet from Thebes.

Some words from the foundry: The Pristine Light fonts are clean and crisp, sans serif, uppercase only. You may already have guessed it...Litter Funk is experimental typography. Some letters are fat blocks, others have stars, stripes or dots, some are funny and funky while others are plain weird - but all in all, they leave a really nice confusing effect when used. Due to the contextual alternates, each letter comes in 5 different versions, and automatically cycle as you type. Well, the font was fun to make - I hope you have fun using it! :)

Skaremoosh is display typeface that is wild and weird. It plays by its own rules, and so will you when you use this font. Included in Skaremoosh are standard ligatures, currencies, ampersands and footnotes consistent with the design. Skaremoosh is complete with alternates for each letter, and alternate ligatures for variation and stylistic choices. Skaremoosh is well suited for an informal look and feel for apps, games, fashion, posters, menus, graphic novels, and anything eye catching. This font was created after months of working on some very rule driven font projects. The need to just let loose was intoxicating - and the exact opposite of what I was doing. I really hope this font inspires some spirited designs!

Noopla is a modern sans-serif display font. Key characters are formed with sweeping and flowing lines, resulting in some really interesting word forms. With four weights, Noopla is great for branding, headlines, signage, social media and more.

Although wood types are found throughout the world, most of the decorative one originated in the United States. This one would work well on theatrical playbills, and advertising for tourist railroads, wild west shows and concerts in the park.

Alias Vertical is a sans serif typeface with a vertical cut-off point for letter endings. The vertical cut-offs bend round characters (b, c, o, etc) into a squarish, high-shouldered shape, suggesting Roger Excoffon’s Antique Olive. In mid-weights, the typeface mixes Antique Olive with typefaces such as Gill or Johnston, for example the shape of the t, the l borrowing Johnston’s flick. Vertical has the same minimal difference in weight between verticals and horizontals as Gill and Johnston, and the same sharp connection point where curves meet straight lines. Like Antique Olive, Vertical has a narrow connection point here, adding contrast and definition. The overall effect feels austere at lighter weights and strident and graphic at bolder weights, and sharp and incised throughout. In the Bold and Black weights, the squarish and top heavy shape of Antique Olive is most noticeable. For example the wide uppercase, with the B having almost-even width between top and bottom curves, and the almost-overhang of the top curve of the G. But Vertical does not have as extreme an aesthetic or square shape as Antique Olive. As well as its wide design, the upper case is given extra authority by being a slightly heavier weight than the lower case. This is a device borrowed from Gill, and other ‘old’ typefaces, where the upper case is presented as a titling design. Modern sensibilities are more focussed on an even colour between upper and lower case. Vertical was originally intended as a sister typeface to Ano, like AnoAngular or AnoStencil. Vertical developed into a similar but separate design. Ano was designed for use in Another Man — in its modular, circle-base design, and the way there aren’t the amendments usually made in bolder weights to ensure letter clarity. This is for layouts where different weights are used together in different sizes so that the overall letter weight is the same, a feature of the magazine. Where Ano is simple and graphic, Vertical has nuance and texture. It is a pragmatic, utility design. In the balance between graphic and typographic, its focus is the latter.

The origin of the word Codswallop is uncertain, but it might have something to do with a 19th century English soft drink brewer named Hiram Codd. Codswallop is a beautiful hand drawn font. A little weird, a tad grotesque and a wee bit over the top, but fun and useful nonetheless.

However, you can stay here if you still prefer the classic version. -But first, let me take a Selfie!- said that girl of the song and almost all of you at least once this year. While some terms and actions get trendy, some font styles do it too. It wouldn't be crazy to combine these worlds, in fact it happens often. Selfie is a connected sans serif based in vintage signage scripts seen in Galerías of Buenos Aires. These places are, in general, very small shopping centres which pedestrians sometimes use as shortcuts to get to other parts of the city. Their dark corridors take you back in time, and all of a sudden you are surrounded by cassettes, piercings, and old fashioned cloth. For some reason, all these shops use monolined geometric scripts. Surely, neon strings are easier to manipulate when letterforms have simple shapes. My very first aim with Selfie was to make a font that would serve as a company to those self-shot pictures that have become so popular nowadays. However, the font turned into something more interesting: I realised it had enough potential to stand-alone. Selfie proves that geometry itself can be really attractive. In this font, elegance is not achieved with the already-known contrast between thicks and thins of calligraphy, but with the purity of form. Its curves were based in perfectly shaped circles which made the font easy to be used at different angles (some posters show it at a 24.7º angle) without having problems/deformities. In addition to its nice performance when used over photographs, the font can be a good option for packaging and wedding invitations. TIPS Adding some lights/shadows between letters will for sure catch the eye of the viewer: Words will look as if they were made with tape/strings; so trendy nowadays. Try using Selfie at a 24.7º angle so that the slanted strokes become perfectly vertical. Having the decorative ligatures feature (dlig) activated is a good option to see letters dance. TECHNICAL It is absolutely recommended to use this font with the standard ligatures feature (liga) activated. It makes letters ligate perfectly and also improves the space between words.

BlusterLeft and BlusterRight are distortions of the font ConcavexCaps. Both are caps only, but some of the shapes on the lower-case keys differ from the corresponding shapes on the upper-case keys. They family was named Bluster because I thought they have a wind-blown, flopping-in-the-breeze look. Others may see them as spooky or eerie, something that could be used for Halloween.

Toffee Display is a sans serif project inspired on Gill sans, Helvetica and Eurotstile italics. This project is designed for food packaging, candies, commercial, and fast food. A tessellation is a shape that can be used to completely fill the plane. Simple examples are isosceles triangles, squares, and hexagons. Tessellation patterns are eye-catching and visually appealing, which is the reason that they have long been popular in a variety of decorative situations. These Tessie fonts have two family members, a solid style that must have different colors when used and an outline style. They can be used separately or they can be used in layers with the outline style on top of the solid style. For rows to align properly, leading must be the same as point size. To see how patterns can be constructed, see the “Samples” file here. Shapes that tessellate and also resemble real-world objects are often called Escher-like tessellations. This typeface contains Escher-like tessellations of birds. Quite a few of them resemble swimming birds, but there are also some that resemble flying birds or birds in other positions. Most or all of these shapes were discovered/created by the font designer during the past twenty years in the process of designing maze books, coloring books, and a book about tessellations. (Earlier tessellation fonts from IngrimayneType, the TessieDingies fonts, lack a black or filled version so cannot do colored patterns. The addition of a solid style that must be colored makes these new fonts a bit more difficult to use but offers far greater possibilities in getting visually interesting results.)

Shopping Script is designed after and inspired by my handwritten shopping list that was originally a lot less stylish, I have written each words multiple times to achieve the organic and natural flow with a bit spaced out style. This font is an existing work of mine that came in only one weight. Now I added multiple weights I as well as expanded and condensed instances, along with a weight and width variable font file that can be set to anything in between Thin Condensed to Heavy expanded. There are standard ligatures for it, jt, ll and tt, stylistic alternates for uppercase "A" and lowercase "e". For lowercase r and s there are contextual/initial variants when they are first letter of a word. Pricing Labels JNL gives you a set of digital price gun labels in fifty-one of the most common store departments, plus an untitled title label on the lower case ‘z’ key. Additionally, numbers for creating prices are on the standard keystrokes (for dollar amounts), and smaller numbers/underscores (for cents amounts) are on the shift key groupings for the number keys. The dollar and cents sign are on the left and right brackets, the decimal point is on the period key and the words “each” and “for” [set sideways] are on the greater and lesser keys.

Frederic W. Goudy originally designed Pabst in 1902. This lettering was used by the Pabst Brewing Company for their promotional materials. It was later developed into type for ATF. Goudy later licensed Pabst Oldstyle to the Lanston Type Library. Lanston Pabst Oldstyle features several differences from the more familiar ATF version. Some caps are narrower while some lower case characters are wider than the ATF version. The descenders are also shorter in the Lanston version. Logotypes of italic words and, of, and the are included as originally designed as well as ligatures including the unusual tt ligature.

A tessellation is a shape that can be used to completely fill the plane—simple examples are isosceles triangles, squares, and hexagons. Tessellation patterns are eye-catching and visually appealing, which is the reason that they have long been popular in a variety of decorative situations. These Tessie fonts have two family members, a solid style that must have different colors when used and an outline style. They can be used separately or they can be used in layers with the outline style on top of the solid style. For rows to align properly, leading must be the same as point size. Shapes that tessellate and also resemble real-world objects are often called Escher-like tessellations. This typeface contains Escher-like tessellations of birds. A number of years ago I decided to see how many of the 28 Heesch types of tessellations I could use to make birds standing on the backs of other birds. I found standing bird patterns for all 17 of the types that had either translated or glided edges. The TessieStandingBirds typefaces contain the standing-bird shapes that I discovered. At first glance they seem to be quite similar, but small differences matter in how they fit together. Most of the patterns require more than one character. The sample file here shows how pieces fit together to give tessellating patterns. (Earlier tessellation fonts from IngrimayneType, the TessieDingies fonts, lack a black or filled version so cannot do colored patterns.)
