Many street nameplates in Britain use versions of Kindersley serif capitals designed by David Kindersley in the 1950s. The Alterhard typeface combines the inimitable craftsmanship of the great condensed styles of the early twentieth century and at the same time looks organic and even unusual among modern ones.
