This little gem is based on a typeface discovered in a Boston Type Foundry catalog from the late 1800s, originally called "Mikado". This font gets its name from one of the more memorable characters in Gilbert and Sullivan’s operetta. Both versions of this font include the complete Unicode Latin 1252 and Central European 1250 character sets.

Inkpad Letters JNL joins a number of fonts that were reproduced by Jeff Levine from inked impressions of various rubber stamp printing sets.

Dom Casual and Dom Diagonal are a set of informal script typefaces that look like brush writing. They were designed by Peter Dombrezian for American Type Founders in 1952 and were an immediate success. Use these typefaces to create a friendly, informal look in signs, advertising, and invitations.

JetJaneMono is a large family of sans-serif faces which are monospaced. It is very plain (plain=plane=jet). The font family has two widths and three weights, with each upright style paired with an italics style. These twelve fonts are then duplicated with another set in which small caps replace the lower-case letters. The typeface was created in 1994 and in 2021 the condensed widths were added.

Hangtime Rad and Extra were designed with surf posters in mind, a subject close to my heart as an avid sailboarder and surfer. Its slightly raked (3 degrees) yet vertical appearance makes for compact setting with extreme impact. Hangtime exhibits some quirky terminal features, its shortened upstrokes are balanced by the lengthened strokes of others providing unusually consistent spacing. Best applied to display situations but is readable at text sizes.

Varga is a robust, geometric script font designed by Alan Meeks in 1991. It suggests the style of the 1930s and 40s, a time when script fonts were making an appearance in advertisements everywhere. In spite of its bold character, the figures have a dynamic, cheerful look. Setting the lower case letters close together lets the figures flow together harmoniously. Varga is perfect for ads, certificates and headlines.

Vintage Varsity was inspired by that classic iron-on letterman jacket your "cool" uncle wore in high school (and lets be real, probably still wears today)... Pair with some fuzzy felt textures and you got yourself a killer duo! Strike the fill, throw a stroke on it, and design a retro-slogan t-shirt. Is this starting to sound like a cheesy infomercial? Designed for ParaType in 2002 by Tagir Safayev. Inspired by the letterforms of Antique No. 8 typeface and other similar fonts of the 19th century (Latin Antique, Wide Latin, Etienne Condensed, Wide Renaissance). A face of so-called Latin type has stout triangular serifs and rather unusual curls on several letters in the lower case. The silent film »The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari« (1920) is undoubtedly one of the breathtaking milestones within the German Expressionist Movement, a time of extraordinarily creative works of art as a reaction to a world in rapid change. The original intertitles of Caligari were worked out by the set designers (and painters) Walter Reimann, Walter Röhrig, and Hermann Warm, using a unique expressionistic language of form for dramatic and iconic lettering. When in 2010 KOMA AMOK’s Joerg Ewald Meißner and Gerd Sebastian Jakob were commissioned by the Institut Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt and publisher Hatje Cantz to design the catalog for the exhibition »The Total Artwork in Expressionism«—showing works of art, architecture, film, literature, theater, and dance—it was soon perfectly clear that a new typeface, inspired by the Caligari intertitles, should speak for all the expressionistic arts. An intense process of research and analysis began. The original letters of the Caligari intertitles were individuals on their own. Furthermore, each of the three title designers had added his specific approach to the basic Caligari type style. From hundreds of different As to Zs a choice had to be made, which should be THE characteristic Caligari letter for a digital typesetting font. Finally the chosen letters were cut and drawn again, missing letters were added according to the formal priniciples, all-in-all 1000 glyphs were digitised to complete a usefull OpenType font ready for use. When in the autumn of 2010 the exhibition started successfully with great media interest, the posters all over Darmstadt announced »You must become Caligari!« – set in the brandnew typeface. The font Caligari Pro offers alternative forms for every letter and a whole bunch of ligatures, thus creating an expressive, individual image of headlines and text. By using included Stylistic Alternates the image will get even more vivid. Caligari comes with a complete set of expressionist ornaments and true old style figures—thus the heyday of the Expressionist Movement and the era of the silent films can be revived typographically by the means of today: »Express Yourself!«.

Spotted in an online auction was a set of brass stencils (possibly handmade) of which some of the characters were individually displayed. The interesting placement of where the letters were broken into stencil parts inspired the creation of Trade Stencil JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

We have been in lockdown for a long time now. The schools were also closed, meaning my kids had to stay at home. This week the schools reopened (not a day too soon!), which means my kids can play with their friends again and learn something too! My wife and I pack their lunchboxes every day and always add some fruit for snack time. That fruity snack inspired me to create this rather messy font! Fruity Snack is a handmade display font. It looks wobbly, comes with awkward angles and rough bits. It also comes with extensive language support (including Vietnamese) and 2 sets of alternates for the lower case letters.

Years before the many "modern" ways to creates signs and posters, the popular method was the rubber stamp printing set. Kris Holmes and Charles Bigelow designed Lucida Console in 1993 for on-screen console and terminal emulation windows that needed monospaced fonts with sturdy letter shapes. Lucida Console has simple, clear, robust letterforms, a big x-height, and economical fitting. It looks large on-screen and in print but takes up less space than traditional typewriter and monospaced fonts. Its short capitals were originally technical adaptations to user interfaces on computers, but its compact look and active italic appeals to typographers and designers for a wide variety of uses, including in games and digital devices. The Lucida Console family has 675 glyphs in each font, and supports the WGL and W1G character sets. This includes the Extended Latin, Greek, and Cyrillic alphabets along with a generous set of symbols, box-draw, and graphical characters.

Retro was designed by Colin Brignall and Andrew Smith and comes in two weights, bold and bold condensed. They are all cap, slab serif typefaces which were inspired by a number of historical artistic movements: Constructivist, Bauhaus, Art Deco and Streamline. Retro has a strong graphic appearance, a number of alternate characters, and is suitable for a wide variety of promotional applications.

Ornata E is the fifth of a series of old ornaments that I am trying to save from oblivion. I am completely redesigning the ornaments from scratch, trying in this one to keep the rough "letterpress" character. These ornaments were designed around 1910, I could not find out by whom. I enjoy and am inspired by many blackletter designs, but find that their uppercase characters are generally too complex to be very usable. I also found that very few, if any were designed with perfect 45 degree angles. I set out to design a textura blackletter with unique features and a usable uppercase. What resulted is an interesting, yet usable, geometric design with unusual features that make it stand out from existing texturas.

Clab is meant for branding. The initial characters were build in bold and chunky personality, yet the thin strokes and flowy italics gives it a versatile and unique set of family. The glyphs crafted in low contrast strokes, short ascenders and descenders and low caps. Clab consist of 9 weight from Hairline to Black with each matching italics. Contain more than 400 glyphs with some OpenType features e.g, standard and discretionary ligature, fraction, e.t.c.

Taking inspiration from 18th century handwritten letters, journals and documents, Memoir is a romantic yet robust design. Its textured profile speaks of surface and age, but this face will look very much at home in contemporary design. Useful for menus, cards, packaging, and logos, its versatility will prove its worth. Unlike signature fonts from that era, Memoir is designed to set in a manner that connects fluidly as if it were actually written.

The HWT American Chromatic set is a multilayered font set that will allow for thousands of possible color and pattern combinations. The original 19th Century Chromatic upon which this font set is based included two fonts. The HWT digital version includes eight. The alignment is configured to allow any combination of the eight fonts to all align when identical text is set and arranged, one on top of the other. Due to the highly decorative nature of this font set, the character set is limited to upper case only with basic punctuation. Five of the eight fonts in the set can be used individually as variations of the classic Tuscan style of wood type, which is defined by its concave stems and serifs. There are no accented characters due to the ornate nature of the design and because there were no accents originally intended for this design. This font is best used at sizes of 72 pt or larger and is ideal for a wide array of design uses. For webfont use, CSS with z-index and position will allow for easy online layering.
