This is a version of the Bergsland Fashion stylized sans serif font family that is very high-waisted and sleek with rounded terminals called Bergsland Round. Round is my favorite out of the group as it is looser and friendlier. This four-font set has a Regular and a Black plus the italics. The stroke is only slightly modulated. The letterforms are higher, with a more open aperture, and sprinkled with breaks to add light and sparkle. This an attempt at a readable sans serif for text. It has many OpenType features and 465 characters per font: Caps, lower case, small caps, old style figures, numerators, denominators, accents characters and so on.

This 21st. century version has been expanded to include many more decorative end caps plus new lowercase, small caps, italic, italic small caps, swash, swash small caps and gothic version. Approximately six months of painstaking work has gone into making this font family over the last 22 months. A couple of years ago, I walked the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail in Japan. At the start of the walk, I stayed in a nice guesthouse in Tanabe city, which lies in Wakayama prefecture. I wouldn’t mention all of this, if it didn’t have something to do with the font name: Wakayama prefecture is THE mandarin orange (Mikan) growing area of Japan and the owner of the guesthouse had just picked a bagful of mikan, which he shared with me. So, I had to think of that when I made this font. Mikan is a nice, rounded family of fonts. Both styles come with alternative a’s (and accented a’s), which some people prefer for Children’s books.

This family was created from the set of font faces used in Lima (Peru) by Antonio Ricardo in 1584 for the first publication ever printed in Southern America: a four-page leaflet in Spanish entitled "Pragm·tica sanciÛn" with information about the new Georgian calendar of 1582 which had not yet been communicated to the colonies.
