In 1924 Morris Fuller Benton designed for ATF a new variation on his father’s design, Century Oldstyle. Century Schoolbook has become a synonym for readability.

Monotype Century Schoolbook is another member of the Century family based on the Century Expanded typeface. The Monotype Century Schoolbook family was designed to fulfill the need for a solid, legible face for printing schoolbooks. It is wider and heavier than Century Expanded, there is also less contrast between thick and thin strokes. First cut by Monotype in 1934 and based on versions from ATF and Lanston Monotype, the sturdy nature of Monotype Century Schoolbook, coupled with its inherent legibility, has made it a popular choice for setting books, newspapers and magazines.

Twentieth Century was Lanston Monotypes answer to Futura. In fact Saul Hess's redrawing of Futura is so close that this new digital revival includes alternates of the long lost original letterforms originally designed by Paul Renner for Futura, but were left out of the released version that has become so popular. 20th Century is a modern sans serif with apparent geometry yet still a certain warmth in its design. The OpenType version of LTC Twentieth Century incorporates the alternate Renner glyphs with two sets of alternate lowercase characters. The font also includes oldstyle numerals and a full Western and Central European character set.

In 1894, Linn Boyd Benton finished a commission for a new text typeface with the American periodical, Century magazine. Century is typical of the neorenaissance movement in typography at the end of the 19th century. Morris Fuller Benton drew a number of versions of the font for the font foundry, American Typefounders, and Century was later taken up by the firms Linotype, Intertype and Monotype.

General Merchant JNL is a bold, compressed sans design in the 'Grotesk' fashion with varying character widths and flattened tops on the usually rounded characters.

Generic Sans JNL was modeled after “Condensed Blair” from the 1907 specimen book of the Inland Type Foundry, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

ITC Pious Henry is the work of South Carolina designer Eric Stevens, a typeface which for him evokes a feeling of the rural South. Maybe it's a naive quality that belongs on a 'Boiled Peanuts' sign," he says. The letters of ITC Pious Henry seem to dance across page or screen."

General Chang JNL is one of a number of fonts redrawn by Jeff Levine from the creative output of the late Alf R. Becker. Becker's alphabets were a monthly feature of Signs of the Times Magazine from the 1930s through the 1950s. Century Gothic™ is based on Monotype 20th Century, which was drawn by Sol Hess between 1936 and 1947. Century Gothic maintains the basic design of 20th Century but has an enlarged x-height and has been modified to ensure satisfactory output from modern digital systems. The design is influenced by the geometric style sans serif faces which were popular during the 1920s and 30s. The Century Gothic font family is useful for headlines and general display work and for small quantities of text, particularly in advertising. The Century Old Style family was modeled on Century Expanded, which had been cut in 1900. Similar weights and proportions were maintained, but the letter shapes were made more elegant by the introduction of a number of old style characteristics. Morris Fuller Benton produced various interpretations of this font for American Typefounders and the companies Linotype, Intertype and Monotype quickly took up the typeface. New Century Schoolbook font is a very legible font, fairly narrow and with relatively little stroke contrast. This font is from Morris F. Benton and appeared in 1915.

Centro Slab Press: Specimen Manual PDF Ever since its first release, Centro Slab has been particularly popular with corporate applications, branding and print media.
