It all began with an ellipse. Like an artist who goes from a pictorical logic to a more abstract one, in Elipses geometry is stripped of any distractive or ornamental detail. The font is naked and it shows that it does not need complex shapes or decisions in order to be very attractive. The font is a compendium of ellipses and stems, with a didone 'pensiero'. It also gets some inspiration from the art-deco letters and architecture, due to obvious reasons. Geometry at its best. Elipses will be useful for magazines, books, ads, or any piece of design that needs elegant letters. Note about the styles The styles named "Alt" (from Alternative) have their swashes with less loops. Use them if you are more into naked geometry. Apart from many alternates and ligatures, I've included some different sized glyphs in all the styles so you can also play on the rhythm! Have fun!

In 1529, Geofroy Tory, French scholar, engraver, printer, publisher and poet, was publishing the well known so called Champ Fleury, printed by Gilles de Gourmond, in Paris. It is a fully illustrated handbook where the author explains how to draw Roman characters. The font used for the text - a Humane/Jenson type - was not a very beautiful one, but rough and ready, and the book is well known for its capital letters designs. We are offering here the two complete historical type sets and more -- we have entirely redrawn the lacked letters: J, U and W, Eth, Lslash, Thorn and Oslash in the two initial forms. The text font, 1529 Champ Fleury Regular is now containing all characters for West European (including Celtic), Baltic, East and Central European and Turkish language, and the Initial set 1529 Champ Fleury Init is containing two complete alphabets, with a very great effort to be as close as possible to the original pictures.

The source of inspiration for MFC Decatur Monogram is a beautifully styled blackletter from JM. Bergling’s 1914 book on Monograms and Engraving Alphabets. ITC Kendo is the work of British designer Phill Grimshaw, suggesting the dash and verve of quick, sketchy calligraphy, complete with splatters of ink. Grimshaw says he worked deliberately against his own habits to create the forms, drawing the letters with slow deliberation" and a pointed pen. He overloaded the pen with ink and drew on rough paper, "applying a lot of pressure at the beginning of a stroke and easing off towards the terminals. Accidental splashes occurred frequently owing to the nib catching the 'tooth' of the paper." Those splashes were refined into features which enhance but do not overwhelm the characters and carefully worked so as not to leave an obvious white strip of unsplattered space between lines and letters. The initial capitals can be used alone or combined with the lowercase alphabet, and the font includes a full set of f-ligatures and some extra ligatures as well as decorative elements."

As a graphic designer, sometimes it’s impossible not to be inspired by the Swiss Style, specifically the work of Armin Hofmann, who is one of its best exponents. ITC Hornpype is the work of California freelance designer Mott Jordan, a cheerful display face inspired in part by the cartoons of the 1920s and 30s. According to Jordan, the typeface's name and three-dimensional quality can be traced to an early cartoon in which a cat blows on a horn with such force that the instrument bulges out. For the three-dimensional look, Jordan added highlights to the thicker strokes to create letters that look as though they were, in his words, squeezed from a toothpaste tube". Jordan suggests his eye-catching font for shorter words in larger point sizes. ITC Hornpype is a lively font perfect for anything needing a "fun, goofy" look."

Dvarlin Staves is a collection of 512 rune glyph's divided into six font family's. The three main font's are Root, Caber and Bole, while Remnant, Branch and Blossom are taller versions of the main set. They all come in four weights: Light, Regular, Semibold and Bold. The Modesto Text Family is text in name only. It’s called Text because it has a Lower Case, and also to distinguish it from the rest of the Modesto clan. Modesto is a loose-knit family based on a signpainters lettering style popular in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. It evolved from the lettering I used for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Baily Circus Logo. The Modesto family was not planned. It just happened, a few fonts at a time over about fifteen years. In 2014 seven new Italic fonts and two Chromatic families were added. There is a downloadable MODESTO USER MANUAL PDF in the Gallery section for this family.

This typeface is based on lettering by Carl Marx (1911?1991), designed during his first semester at the Bauhaus in Joost Schmidt?s class, in 1932. Although the letter proportions are based on Schmidt?s teachings, the forms are not constructed from compass and ruler, but drawn with brush and marker, lending the words a warm and lively touch. Hidetaka Yamasaki redrew the letters from scratch and added all missing characters for today?s needs. A set of hanging figures, alternates for some critical letterforms (such as f, r, and t) as well as several ligatures make CarlMarx especially suitable for use in body text. As suggested by Marx, Yamasaki captured two weights from the original drawing and perfectly adjusted light and bold to highlight words and create hierarchy in headlines ? without losing or adding space. In the heyday of "Tin Pan Alley", a song plugger was one whose job it was to bring a publisher's song to the attention of performers, show producers and radio station executives; the forerunner of the promotion man who visited disk jockeys with new record releases in the hopes of getting them played on the air. Song Plugger JNL was based on hand lettering spotted on some late-1920s-early 1930s sheet music.

Phraxtured is a fairly accurate rendition of the letter forms used in an old German-language publication that I found in a trash heap. However, several characters in fraktur, such as the k, y, x, and S, look bizarre to English-language readers, and I have created more comfortable alternatives. The Phraxtured-Deutsch version has the more traditional characters. The ShadowedInside style is designed to be used in layers with the Shadowed style.
