The 1907 sheet music for "Take Me Back to Dear Old Dixie" had the song title hand lettered in a decorative serif typeface with strong Art Nouveau influences. This design is now available digitally as Fancy Nouveau JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

Dynamic Outfit is actually another one of my fonts (Universitet) cut and slightly rotated into a grunge font. To make the font more realistic and grungy, I have added 8 different versions of each letter - and these different versions automatically cycle as you type!

This is decorative typeface for large scale designs (like headers or so), inspired by french forged balcony decorations. This font has 2 dimensions in it (thin letters like a, o, e and ‘wide’ m, b etc.), to make it more vibrant and add volume.

Originally designed in 1985 and released by Letraset for dry transfer Lettering, Kestrel has, until now, never been digitized. The face now has been completely re-drawn and digitized for all formats. It is a heavy formal script similar in form to Commercial Script.

A 1932 fan magazine from Spain entitled “Films Selectos” (“Select Films”) had those words hand lettered in a decorative Art Deco type style that was a cross between the “Futura Black” style of stencil influenced display lettering and “Fiesta” lettering. This hybrid design is now available digitally as Dance and Sing JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

I was inspired to create the Rainier type family during my summer back home in the Pacific Northwest. The concept behind it may be simple - a hand crafted font family - but what it delivers is quite complex! Here is a breakdown of everything you get: FONT FAMILIES: Two sub-families with unique styles - Rainier North and Rainier West WEIGHTS: 4 weights per family, broken down numerically - 100 (light), 300 (regular), 500 (bold), 700 (black) OPENTYPE: In each family, there are tons of OpenType options, offering lots of customizable opportunities (in order to access all these goodies, you must be using Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign or Publisher). Because Rainier is 100% handmade, contextual alternatives allow each letter has three subtle variations, this way it keeps that authentic hand-drawn look. Additionally, a full alphabet with special descending swashes, as well as start and end swashes for capitals and small caps. Titling alternatives offer a full character set just to help with readability! Meant for captions or smaller text, these letterforms are easy on the eye and a great complement to the regular alphabet. Stylistic Alternatives add a little fun, providing a unified cap height, no matter what case you are using (all caps, small caps or lowercase.) The Joseph Struhl Company of Long Island, NY pioneered the use of cling vinyl in the field of reusable signs. Along with sets of die-cut letters and numbers, one of their main products for many years was a set of letters and numbers silk screened onto vinyl panels for larger window displays. Cling Vinyl JNL is Jeff Levine's tribute to this sign kit and its innovative contribution to retail marketing. The font comes in two styles: Cling Vinyl JNL has white characters on a black background and Cling Vinyl Clear JNL has black characters on an open (clear) background. For those wanting a "panel" space between words, there are two different width ones on the < and > keys. Please note: limited character set.

Yet again, a font inspired by my work as a kindergarten teacher! The other day, I had a conversation with some of the kids, about what they ate for breakfast. Some had oatmeal, some bread and others yogurt. But this kid - he insisted that every morning, his mother would serve him cookies, “morning cookies”. It sounded too good to be true, and when I asked his mother, it turned out that “cookies” were actually bread, but to make it sound more appetising, they called it cookies! The letters are rounded and in some way quite naive, but still clear and legible. With an extreme ascender and descender, the font stands out with its oddities. I’ve added 3 different versions of each lowercase letter!

The Parliament typeface was designed by Jonathan Hoefler beginning in 1995. A burlesque typeface in the Regency Blackletter style, Parliament was inspired by the ‘Four-line Pica Black No. 1’ typeface of William Caslon Jr (1821), whose enigmatic design for the letters E, G, I, N, V and Y hinted at a broader ambition to modernize the arcane shapes of the gothic alphabet’s capital letters. Parliament completes this project for the first time by including two sets of alphabets, one archaic and one modern, along with a third set of ‘small caps’ that restores to the blackletter the versatility of Roman type. Parliament was first used for the 1998 ATypI Conference in Lyon, and was published by Hoefler&Co in 2022.

Pomarosa is a typographic family that consists of capital roman letters and twisted lower case letters set randomly. Each one of them is characterized by its multiple calibers and widths. Pomarosa was planned to accompany graphic works done with different techniques and materials such as hand made collages. The narrowness of its glyphs involve its audience with abstract imprecision. Its spirit was born between fabric snippets intervened with pencil and painting. Its three members work in group and also in words or phrases with a non-finished look. Regular Pomarosa and Standard Pomarosa have 260 glyphs each. Both of them simulate to have been done by a right-handed person that works with its left hand. Pomarosa dingbats has 26 illustrations useful for frames and textures.

This historic revival font was created especially for use in the preservation and restoration of the 1916 silent film “The Good Bad Man,” starring Douglas Fairbanks. There is only one copy of the original film print in existence, and when the film was restored for a screening at the San Francisco Film Festival in 2014 the new font was created to best recreate the intent of the original lettering in the film. It is a smooth and pleasant vintage lettering style, originally designed for use on silver screens, now fully rendered in OpenType and ready for you to use in your designs or web pages today. ROARRR! THE STYLES -Pantera Pro is the most complete style, and although its default look is mono-rhythmic it gets really playful and crazy like the examples of the posters by just activating the Decorative Ligatures button in the Open-type Panel of Adobe Illustrator. However, I recommend using also the Glyphs Panel because there you'll find much more variants per letter. Pantera Pro is in fact, coded in a way the combination of thicknesses will always look fantastic. -Pantera Black Left, and Pantera Black Right are actually “lite” versions of Pantera Pro: They have very little Open-Type code, so what you see here is what you get. Pantera Black Left has its left strokes thick, while Pantera Black Right has its right strokes thick. -Pantera White is a lovely member in this family that looks lighter and airy, hence its name. With the feature Standard Ligatures activated (liga) the font gets very playful. -Pantera Caps is based on sign painters lettering and since it follows the same pointed brush rules as the other styles, it matches perfectly. -Pantera Claws like its name suggests, is a set of icons that were done by our dear panther. THE STORY It is said that typography can never be as expressive as calligraphy, but sometimes it can get close enough. I tend to think that calligraphic trials, in order to work well as potential fonts, need first to go through very strict filters before going digital: While calligraphy is synonym of freedom (once its rules are mastered), type-design, in the other hand, has its battlefield a little tighter and tougher. When I practice pointed brush lettering, there are so many things happening on the paper. And most of them are delicious. The ones who know my work may see that although many of my fonts are very expressive, my handmade brush trials are much more lively than them. With that in mind, this time I tried to go further and rescue more of those things that are lost in the process of thinking type when first sketches are calligraphic. I wondered if I could create something wild, hence its name Panther, by understanding the randomness that sometimes calligraphy conveys and turning it to something systemic: With Pantera, I created an ordered disorder. Like it happens a lot in many kinds of lettering styles, in order to enrich the written word the scribe mixes the thickness of the strokes and the width of the letters. Like one of my favorite mentors say (1), they make thoughtful gestures Some lively strokes go down with a thick, while some do that with a thin. Some letters are very narrow, meaning some of them will need to be very wide to compensate. Why not?. The calligrapher is always thinking on the following letters, and he/she designs in his head the combination of thicks and thins before he/she executes them. He/she knows the playful rhythm the words will have before writing them. It takes time and skill to master this and achieve graceful results. Going back to the font, in Pantera, this combination of varying thicknesses and widths of letters were Open-Type coded so the user will see satisfactory results by just enabling or disabling some buttons on the glyphs panel. I'm very pleased with the result since it’s not very easy to find fonts which play with the words' rhythm like Pantera does, following of course, a strong calligraphic base. What started as a small project for Mike Humphrey of Chiltern Image Service in the UK ended up as Air Corps JNL, a typeface featuring retro letters and numbers from military aircraft. The Book of Kells is a handwritten Irish text which dates back to the 8th century. Kris Holmes and Janice Prescott digitalized some letters from this book and some from a Grotesk font in the style of Frutiger. A computer filled in the blanks and the designers then gave the font its finishing touches by hand.

Halliday JNL was redrawn from impressions made by a rubber stamp sign printing set, thus providing the slight imperfection of line widths that gives a hand-made approach to the typeface. The lettering style is based on Beton Open Condensed, a clean and popular slab serif used for decades in print display titling and rubber stamp manufacture.

Open Range is a new font design based on an old classics sans serif font from the 1800s. Some may say that this font looks like a western version of the more modern Benguiat but samples of lettering from the 1800s show a similar design to Benguiat and may have been the inspiration for that font.

A decorative font with descending tails on the capital letters. The design is based on a popular typeface from the 1880s, mainly used for personal names on title-pages, advertisements and stationery. Today, you can use it e.g. on book and album covers, invitation cards, restaurant menus and concert programs to give a fin-de-siècle impression.

Astroz is a single weight display font inspired by sci-fi culture and space environments. It has been conceived for logos, headlines and posters. I like fonts that look like scribbled notes… so I made one! Delivery note was made with a sharpie pen on paper. I didn’t ‘clean’ the glyphs too much, as I wanted it to look like a genuine note script. It comes with double letter ligatures for the lower case glyphs and a fun doodle pack!

Sabinard offers a distinctive form of 'Swash' lettering. It is excellent for poster work, or for headings and titles. Its distinguishing feature is the combination of long ascenders and descenders with a small cap height. It has been designed to compliment Greater Albion's Sabio, but also works splendidly as a 'feature' type alongside any Roman Face.
