CA Saygon Text is the logic consequence of CA Saygon. It is much calmer and therefore also suitable for reading texts and everyday’s editorial tasks. Basic shapes and proportions were adopted from Saygon and continued in such a way that a font family from Thin to Extrabold resulted. A fundamental inspiration were early static grotesque typefaces such as Akzidenz Grotesk. Nevertheless, the typeface was by no means intended to have a historical look. Thus, a relatively high x-height was chosen, which makes the typeface quite economical in type-setting, since the letters appear visually larger. A relatively small line spacing with good legibility can be achieved due to the small ascenders and the low cap height. Letters like f and t, which otherwise tend to end in curves, were given right angles, which on the one hand meets certain design elements of the original Saygon, but on the other hand also refers to contemporary trends in typeface design. A special feature are the five styles in which CA Saygon Text can be used. The default setting is the Helvetica style, with two-storey a and g. The Futura style has a single-storey a and a two-storey g accordingly. The third style with two-storey a and three-storey g is called the Franklin style. But the real highlight is the Cape style with single-storey a and three-storey g – a real rarity up to now. Let yourself be inspired by this unusual typeface. If you like it even more progressive, you should try the flat style, which continues the right angles in a, g, and y as well. Thanks to the Cyrillic and Latin Extended character sets, a huge linguistic area is covered that even extends to Vietnam! Even the exotic German capital-double-s is available and appears automatically when typed between other capital letters. Numerous OpenType features make life easier for the professional typographer: there are fractions, superscript and subscript numbers, as well as proportional and tabular capitals.

I have seen my share of badly stuffed animals. Most of them via pictures, but also on vacations here and there. They all had this really bad handcraft vibe, but at the same time some really ordinary and kind of cute looks. I did my best to capture this look and feeling in my Badly Stuffed Animal font: clumsy letters made with a blobbly pen, with naive and irregular lines - and the conclusion is something super useful for a project that needs an organic handmade look!

May I present to you: Tacky Shoes. Actually there's nothing tacky here - just liked the sound of that :) Just like the letters may look quite straight-forward, but here and there the lines are a bit off, which enhances the handmade look - which makes it great for work like posters, invitations, flyers, stickers or something that has to do with creativity. Each letter has 6 variants (in all 6 versions!) which makes the text look more natural and random - because these variants cycle as you type!

Koi is a highly original, outline display font. Each character is represented by a single continuous line to create a fluid and rhythmic look. The result is something of a hybrid, sitting somewhere between an outline and an inline style, and with an asymmetrical look — something quite rare in a typeface. Many of the characters look like ready made logotypes. Further customisation is easily achieved by extending the end strokes of characters, possibly aligning them and joining them to others to create bespoke arrangements.

I started making this font with a few days left at work before my 4 weeks vacation. I managed to finish the font on the day my vacation started - but with no stress. Now I can look forward to 4 good weeks at the summerhouse, and look back at the release of this laid back, handmade and somewhat quirky font. Personally I’d use it for anything that needs an organic handmade look - perhaps packaging, posters, flyers or maybe even clothes or toys for kids!

Strangelove Next is inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s movie “Dr. Strangelove”. The original titles were designed by Pablo Ferro, who is one of the most acclaimed film title designers, especially famous for his hand-drawn lettering. The Strangelove Next family contains the highly successfull narrow version, a new expanded version and finally a mix of the first two, which gives it a surprising and unpredictable look. The Core Sans GS Family is a rounded version of Core Sans G and a part of the Core Sans Series such as Core Sans N, M, A, E, D. Core Sans GS is constructed of straight, circular or square shapes. These geometric shapes are inspired by classic geometric sans (Futura, Avenir, Avant Garde etc.). Every stem is a rectangle or a straight line and every letter, lowercase or uppercase, seems to be in perfect geometric form and even weighted. The small x-height makes readability clean and clear. Originally designed in 1928, Plak is something of a lost gem in the type world. Despite being drawn by Futura creator Paul Renner, it never achieved the same popularity and spent decades lacking a much-needed digital revival. Monotype designers Linda Hintz and Toshi Omagari have taken its existing three weights and, after extensive research into the original wood type, extended them into the vast Neue Plak family. The typeface is available in 60 weights that stay true to Renner’s intentions, and offer the same blend of “quirky” details and “German stiffness” – as Hintz describes it. The design is an unusual mixture, bringing together a defiant outer appearance that’s counteracted by more playful details found in the lowercase r, and the large dots of the lowercase i. Other distinctive details include open or strikethrough counters, and a set of hairline widths that reduce Renner’s original design to its bare bones. Neue Plak’s display weights are crying out to be used in editorial, on packaging or in logos, while its text weight works well in both print and digital environments. ITC Coventry is the work of American designer Brian Sooy. ITC Coventry is what type would look like if you left a gothic font out in the rain. IF you look close, you'll see the roots of a handsome sans serif font buried under a layer of grime and rust, basically." The low-budget student flyers that Sooy saw in the Coventry section of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, inspired him to design this font and the result is a typeface which looks as though it has been faxed or photocopied many times. "While it looks very irregular in text, it's very carefully spaced to give that effect," says Sooy. ITC Coventry was designed to work just as well in text as in headlines or even on billboards."

From tablet to table – from freehand to font – Average Handwriting was designed originally in freehand on paper then onto a tablet with the help of an appropriate app to give it a ‘wet brush’ feel – this was transferred to paper then tweaked PS and only then imported into a font design programme – this is how we work to keep the original flourishes and a freehand feel to the font. Thus, a well-ordered handwriting with both elements of freehand and precision.
