Maison Luxe is a revival of a very old font designed in France in or around the year 1820. You may have seen this font in the past under the names of Circus, Roma, Madame and Gillé Classic. As of November 2016 we have changed the name of this font from Gillé Classic to Maison Luxe which means Luxury House in French. For many years Joseph Gillé was credited as the original designer of this font however we've recently been contacted by a type historian in France reporting that he could not find any evidence supporting Joseph Gillé as the designer and to the best of his knowledge an artist by the name of Sylvestre may be the true designer. If you love this classic font then you're sure to enjoy the alternate version also with a matching lowercase available from FontMesa under the name of Home Style. This version of the classic with its squared off shadow is true to the original design where Home Style has diagonal lines creating a cast shadow. History, as it's said, tends to repeat itself. The round-point pen lettering used in the 1920s logo and ads for Dodge Brothers cars (pre-General Motors) is an early predecessor to the techno type styles of the 1980s. Square in shape, with unique stylization to some letters, Jalopy JNL can cross the decades and be used for a 1920s period piece and still look fresh in an ad for computer parts. Rather than round out the inside lines of the characters to fully emulate the strokes of a lettering pen, the inside lines have straight intersections for the contemporary side of this font's design.

Here’s a novelty font emulating the plastic pennant streamers that were popular in the 1950s and 1960s used to decorate a store parking lot or used car lot for a sales event. The typeface inside the individual pennants is Manufacturer JNL, which can be used for body copy associated with titles made by this font. Parking Lot Sale JNL is available in regular (black letters on white pennants) and black (with white letters). A blank pennant for word spacing or end caps is available on the backslash key.

Hilda is an ode to countryside. This typeface is inspired by the peace that comes with escaping the city and drinking a cup of coffee while listening to the chirping of birds. The name comes from a cartoon series “Hilda” based on comic series by Luke Pearson. I describe it with 2 words - elegant and playful. A couple of years before the second World War, Marcel Jacno, the popular French graphic designer who in the 1930s designed iconic posters for Gaumont and Paramount and famously illustrated the Gaulish helmet that first adorned the Gauloises cigarette packs in 1936, was asked by Deberny & Peignot to design a calligraphic typeface for the advertising market. Jacno's Scribe design, billed by D&P as a "virile ad writing" typeface, was released to some great fanfare in 1937, enjoyed some time of French spotlight, and was ready to make waves in the rest of Europe before the war broke out and snuffed its chances at international recognition. However, samples of it can still be found in some specialty post-war publications as an example of a trend that lasted a couple of decades, when Western European type manufacturers commissioned famous visual artists to design typefaces in order to capitalize on the artists' fame - the trend that brought us standards like Futura and the long list of Lucien Bernhard and Imre Reiner faces. This family was created/inspired from the well-known Baskerville Roman and Italic typefaces created by John Baskerville, the English font designer. We were inspired by the original family sent by Baskerville’s wife after his death. The full Baskerville collection was bought by the French editor and author Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais who used it to print - in Switzerland - for the first time the complete works of Voltaire (known as the “Kehl edition” from the "Imprimerie de la société littéraire typographique").
