The Barnhart Bros. & Spindler foundry put out a caps-only face called Dante. We liked it, but felt it needed a lowercase. The result here is a rather nice square design, which has become a personal favorite.

“Stillson” is an Art Nouveau-influenced font found within the pages of the 1881 Barnhart Bros. & Spindler type specimen book. The digital revival is called Office Manager JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Beat Poet JNL is a throwback to the late 50s and early 60s when Beatniks hung out at coffee houses to listen to poetry and folk songs and live the Bohemian lifestyle of the Pre-Hippie generation.

Gilbert JNL is an interpretation of Eric Gill's classic sanserif typeface, which has become an all-purpose workhorse in ad copy. While other versions of gill-sans fonts have multiple weight sets, Jeff Levine chose to replicate this particular weight as a single design [in both regular and oblique versions] because of its popularity with sign makers of the past and give to it the minor nuances of hand-made lettering.

An eccentric chamfered sans serif wood type design with a right side engraving line from the 1800s was found within the pages of the Thorowgood foundry of London, England. This font is now available as Chamfer Engraved JNL in regular and oblique versions.

Brandon Text is the companion of the famous Brandon Grotesque type family. It has a higher x-height than the Grotesque version and is optimized for long texts, small sizes and screens. This sans serif type family of six weights plus matching italics was designed by Hannes von Döhren in 2012. Influenced by the geometric-style sans serif faces that were popular during the 1920s and 30s, the fonts are based on geometric forms that have been optically corrected for better legibility. Grava is Neil Summerour’s injection of warmth within the geometric sans font category. Historically, geometric sans families have been based on primal shapes — triangle, circle, square — and the more closely they held to those rigid rules, the more internal inconsistencies they showed. Angles won’t match up correctly, letters will lean, overshoots complicate clean typesetting, and idealized circles become grotesque and unwieldy in some weights. Because of issues like these, geometric sans fonts have a reputation of being cold, austere, even a bit “off”. The Nov. 26, 1921 issue of “The Moving Picture World” carried an ad for the dramatic film “For Your Daughter’s Sake” (originally tilted “The Common Sin” and produced in 1920). Hand lettered in an Art Nouveau sans serif style, the ad copy inspired Movie Drama JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Montag is an extended, rounded sans-serif. In many ways it can be seen as a more conservative, extended version of Chennai . Barceloneta is a simple sans-serif font, with heavy bold and very characteristic soaring accents, referring to the shape of sharp towers in the building standing in the very center of Barcelona, designed by Gaudí - the Sagrada Familia. Most of the design work on the font also took place during the stay in the aforementioned city. As a result, a typeface with very different thicknesses was created, containing 364 glyphs, characteristic - in eight varieties, which, thanks to its diversity, can be used both as a headline typeface, but also one used for the composition of continuous text (which was not present in the initial assumptions).
