This typeface appeared in the William H. Page Woodtype specimen book as Gothic Tuscan Condensed Reversed—quite a mouthful. Banner elements appear in the brace and bracket positions, and reversed spaces can be found in the underscore and bar positions. Both versions of this font support the Latin 1252, Central European 1250, Turkish 1254 and Baltic 1257 codepages.

Eyeballs was designed at Bitstream by designer David Robbins. Its beginnings can be found in Bitstream’s Old Dreadful No. 7, where Mr. Robbins first conceived the capital I. He was later asked by Bitstream to develop the entire character set. The result is a humorous meld of cartoon and typography. A word of caution: Watch how you use it!

It’s surprising - it can take more time and effort to make something deliberately and artfully imperfect than it does to make a more conventional design. We certainly found this to be the case when designing ‘SpeedSketch’. Perhaps a more accurate name would have been ‘SlowDraw’ but that wouldn’t really capture the essence of the finished design.

Dragons, pirates, magic, and all that is gothic was the inspiration for this design. Blackstone was one of ten winners in The 1988 Chartpak Typeface Design Competition and is now available in two styles with additional characters, alternates and dingbats. Several alternate caps can be found using alt keystrokes, so try using different combinations of all caps.

A quirky and unusual Art Deco monoline typeface can be found within the pages of the Esterbrook Drawlet Pen instruction book [circa the 1940s]. Drawlet was the direct competitor to Speedball Lettering pen nibs. This unusual type design of varying width and character shapes is now available digitally as Oddly Deco JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

The Sacramento Pro family of typefaces was inspired by a monoline, semi-connected script from hand-lettering artist brochure work of the 1950's and 1960's. With its sophisticated upright stance, it stands on a thin line between formal and casual lettering styles, yet it has a commanding presence for headlines and titles. The Slim adds a fine pen-line style, while the Stout style expands the formal/casual dichotomy much further than the original weight. Once upon a time, Mestre Patau, the «Black» magician, concerned about children´s typefaces historical ugliness, decided to settle the matter and using his vector powers, made letters embellished to be used in that stories so that they were according with the great genius all children have inside. Well done face but happy, goodness is not incompatible with joy. A solid construction, smooth, rounded, vibrant, generous curves and even more generous x-height and general proportions, give to the letter the vitality and freshness needed for use in projects where formality is not a requirement. Naughty but welldone, although not heeding the overshoots or the formal alignments, no symmetry in the horns is, despite this, or because of it, a fresh, cheerful but perfectly legible type. A Lincoln Road is a family of 9 fonts including 2 weights of Deco and 6 weights of a coordinating Sans and an Elements font that contains the frames and elements you see used in the previews. Moron is a distinctive and idiosyncratic display typeface: a winsome-but-nasty, old-and-yet-new drawing of Victorian sans-serif letterforms (with some 1970s sausage fonts thrown in). Moron started life as a sans-serif redrawing of Nylon but developed into a unique typeface with a character all its own. It is based, very loosely, upon Victorian Tuscan and Grotesque type found in the churches and cemeteries of the city of Glasgow. These letterforms originated before the dawn of modernism and at a time when the Arts and Crafts Movement was flourishing. In this age of early mass production and mechanisation, the Victorian ability to balance functionality with ornamentation had fascinating results. The typography of that period displays a unique combination of industrial heft and romantic decoration.

In 1927 Albert Auspurg cut Trocadero for the Trennert foundry in Hamburg. This new version is not a mere digitalization, but many letterforms were altered and updated, and missing links in the complete alphabet had been drawn afresh. Out came a beautiful cursive font with a certain charm of its own which covers beside the West European languages also those of Central Europe and Turkish.

Caballero Script is a calligraphic font from from Swedish type designer Bo Berndal and the T4 font foundry. Caballero is inspired by Spanish handwriting from 15th and 16th century, minus the extremely long ascenders. If it would be music or a dance, it would be a Flamenco – there is fire as well as discipline. It is an OpenType creation, for both PC and Mac.

Here's a faithful rendering of the slightly quirky, but thoroughly yeomanlike headline face Basuto, designed by Stanley Baxter and released by the Stephenson Blake Type Foundry in 1927. Bold, brassy and a little sassy, this one will perk up your headlines fer sure. Both versions include the complete Latin 1252, Central European 1250 and Turkish 1254 character sets, as well as localization for Moldovan and Romanian.

German designer Erbar drew the Candida typeface for the Ludwig & Mayer foundry shortly before his death in 1935. The typeface was released posthumously in 1936. An italic designed by Walter Höhnisch was published the following year and a reworked version was produced in 1945. Bold weights followed in 1951. Thanks to its clarity and readability in small sizes, the Candida family remained popular in the digital age.

Based on the typeface Lunda originally made by Karl Erik Forsberg , (1914–1998) in 1941. The name Lunda was a tribute to Berlingska Stilgjuteriet in Lund, a Swedish type foundry (1837–1980) which supported him from the start. The design is close to the original but some significant details have been changed. Several signs are designed from scratch. An additional bold weight has been added.

Caslon Antique was designed by Berne Nadall and brought out by the American type foundry Barnhart Bros & Spindler in 1896 to 1898. It doesn’t bear any resemblance to Caslon, but has the quaint crudeness of what people imagine type looked like in the eighteenth century. Use Caslon Antique for that “old-timey” effect in graphic designs. It looks best in large sizes for titles or initials.

Codex was designed by Georg Trump and introduced by the font foundry C.E. Weber in 1954. Based on the German Gothic script of the 13th century, this font has the character of handwriting. Its capital letters are extremely big in comparison with the lower case, hence good for contrast in short text, however, this characteristic makes the font better suited to languages which use fewer capital letters.

FDI Reklameschrift is a carefully crafted digitization and extension of “Reklameschrift Bombe”, originally released in 1908 at the type foundry Ludwig & Mayer. FDI Reklameschrift covers Western, Eastern and Central European Latin and comes in two versions: Version A is as close as possible to the original design, containing some blackletter-style letterforms. Version B replaces these letterforms to improve legibility and allow a modern use.

Put the kettle on and break out the biscuits. This no-nonsense stencil face is a faithful recreation of Tea Chest, released by the Stephenson Blake Type Foundry in 1939. Its bold strokes and slender profile retain their freshness, even seventy-plus years on. Both versions include the complete Latin 1252, Central European 1250 and Turkish 1254 character sets, as well as localization for Moldovan and Romanian.

In 1894, Linn Boyd Benton finished a commission for a new text typeface with the American periodical, Century magazine. Century is typical of the neorenaissance movement in typography at the end of the 19th century. Morris Fuller Benton drew a number of versions of the font for the font foundry, American Typefounders, and Century was later taken up by the firms Linotype, Intertype and Monotype.

This rather quirky typeface is based on a design by Collette and Dufour, originally called "Independant", for the Maison Plantin foundry of Belgium. Ultramodern (by 1930s standards, at least) and ultrabold, it takes up a lot of real estate, and commands a lot of attention while doing so. Both versions of this font include the complete Unicode Latin 1252 and Central European 1250 character sets.

The Chromium Yellow family is based, very loosely, on Electro-type Serif, designed by John Wu of Hong Kong’s Archetype foundry. The rather quirky serifs have been removed and a few odd letter treatment have been amended to produce a smooth, techno-friendly family of faces. This font contains the complete Latin language character set (Unicode 1252) plus support for Central European (Unicode 1250) languages as well.

Liturgisch was created by Otto Hupp for Klingspor foundry in 1906. The basis of this font is a publication in the magazine "Das Plakat" of October 1921. The font contains contextual alternates, ligatures, discretional ligatures for use in German, ornamental bullets and other OpenType features. It supports all the European languages using Latin alphabets (including slashed S and slashed longs used in Latvian old orthography till 1930s).

This fresh face takes a number of design cues from Tomás Vellvé Mengual's eponymous design for Barcelona's Neufville Type Foundry in 1971. This version softens many of the lines of the original, and warms the design up overall with rounded terminals. Available in three weights, this font contains the complete Latin language character set (Unicode 1252) plus support for Central European (Unicode 1250) languages as well.

Folio was designed by Konrad F. Bauer and Walter Baum and appeared with the Bauer font foundry (Bauersche Gießerei) in 1957. The designers based their ideas on Helvetica but Folio did not turn out to pose the competition they had hoped. The font has the same applications as Helvetica and is an extremely legible font. Folio is particularly good for text and has an objective, neutral character.

This family was inspired by the set of fonts used in Paris by Ponce Rosset, aka “Faucheur” to print the account of the second voyage to Canada by Jacques Cartier, first edition, in 1545. It is a Garalde set, the punchcutter is unknown, certainly it was not Garamond himself. In our two styles (normal and italic), fontfaces, kernings and spaces are scrupulously the same as in the original.
