In October 2010 I released a font called “Zanoix” It was based upon a an old horror movie poster. I looked through and old folder, and found the font that served as a base for this the grungy font. Zonaix is opposite to Zanoix, because it is super clean, pointy and is made entirely of straight lines! With the sharp pointed serifs and whacky lines, it is a good choice for a legible seriffed font - not necessarily for anything scary!

Bluenote is a font based on Franklin Gothic condensed. In the 60s and 70s the record label Blue Note published all those classic jazz records of my youth. Someone at their arts department cut letters to ribbons and designed wonderful record covers with those fragmented glyphs. I recently had a look at my music collection and rediscovered these letters. It was in the beginning of 2008 when I designed a font named Quijote, its predecessor. In the middle of 2009, I looked at it again and thought it could be a good idea to make an update of it. Variables and Features: Quijote Sauvage Pro is the most complete variable. It includes all the ligatures, alternates and swashes. It has the OpenType function in order to alternate glyphs easily when running applications which support this. The font is also offered separately. Quijote Sauvage Standard has the right glyphs to get an equilibrium between wildness and softness. It includes standard and discretionary ligatures. Quijote Sauvage Stylistic has the sharpest glyphs. Its decorative traces are discreet in order not to have problems as regards legibility. Its upper case are less wild than the other variables. Quijote Sauvage Text is the most discreet of its partners. This one was thought in order to improve legibility. Its ascenders and descenders are shorter, so the words are easier to read in small sizes. Quijote Sauvage Contextual, Swash and Titling, are the ones with wonderful terminals. They decorate words, adding a wonderful look of wildness or passion.

Controlled casualness is the watchword in this new handwriting script from the prolific young French designer Éric de Berranger, who also designed the sans serif type family ITC Octone. ITC Berranger Hand has its roots in chancery calligraphy, yet its surface looks like contemporary informal lettering that was written quickly with a felt-tip pen on slightly absorbent paper. The counters of some letters appear to almost fill in from ink spread, yet Berranger Hand is admirably readable at small sizes. The capital letters are restrained, without swashes, so they can be used together in all-caps combinations.

In its characteristics Xtra Sans is a combination of modern grotesks/grotesques and traditional calligraphy. Its upright and compact letterforms generate a sturdy effect as in the early 20th century grotesks Nobel, Kabel or Erbar. On the contrary, dynamic inside forms (counters) give the characters a fluent appearance. As a result, Xtra Sans stands out in large size, while remaining highly legible in small and long text. In 2007 Xtra Sans received a Certificate of Excellence in Type Design from Type Directors Club, New York. In 2002, still unpublished, it was awarded a bronze prize at the Morisawa Awards, Tokyo.

Glass Light was designed in 1912 by Franz Paul Glass for the Genzsch & Heyse foundry. The font is stylewise related to the "Lo types" of the same period. Glass designed a lot of decorative elements to go along with the font. I added Swashes, endletters and smallcaps to the set to make it complete. Since this type of font will probably not be used by many professionals, I did not put all the letters into one big OTF-version since most people don't have OTF-savy software. A slightly regularized digital version of a late Baroque Fraktur type, probably from the beginning of the 18th century, issued by the Norstedts type foundry in Stockholm in 56 point size as "Sju petit fraktur nr 2". This digital font is designed for rather large sizes, at least 30 points. The font includes accented letters for all Western languages, as well as a long s and the usual Fraktur ligatures, e.g. ch, ck, st, tz. The font can be used for logos, packaging, posters, restaurant menus, beer and wine labels etc. associated with traditional German and Scandinavian culture.

Adrian Frutiger designed Egyptienne F for the Deberny & Peignot Foundry in 1956. This was the first of several Egyptians designed by Frutiger, see also Glypha and Serifa. “Egyptian” or “Egyptienne” is a typographic designation for roman typefaces with slab (or square or rectangular) shaped serifs; and those that have bracketing between main stroke and serifs (like this one) are known as “Clarendon-style Egyptians”. Egyptienne F has a medium x-height and excellent character spacing for setting text in small point sizes. Legible, flexible, and neutral in appearance, Egyptienne F is a good choice for books, magazines, and on-screen presentations.

Sandbox was inspired by designs created by the Robert D. DeLittle Foundry in York, England, sometime after 1888. At the time, the fonts were simply grouped under the title #260 in the DeLittle catalog. This new font family was completely redrawn and engineered by Steve Jackaman, and several additional weights were designed to give the family improved flexibility. Sandbox was given its new name because it showcases a playful and bold feel, and contains many fun alternate characters and ligatures. Alergia Remix, designed by Mateusz Machalski, is the younger sister of Alergia Grotesk. Remixed styles were made as a hybrid between a linear antiqua and a geometric display typeface. Alergia Remix is characterised by a lot of details, which gives it a strong character. Unpredictable construction in the letters a,s,g,e,m,h etc. in combination with a delicate contrast, makes Alergia Remix a good choice for many display purposes . Medina Gothic is a three-weight sans serif inspired by Latin American moderne. It was designed in response to the 2002, Altos de Chavon design conference in The Dominican Republic, which celebrated utilitarian driven gestures in graphic design. "There’s a rigor to Medina Gothic that takes care of all sorts of tenets of a hard-working, highly legible, objective font. But at the same time, it’s human. All the curved terminals and open counter forms make for a sort of kindness. The Confetti is a typeface created about 1930 by the defunct José Iranzo foundry in Barcelona, and imitates the forms and gestures of handwriting created with a round nib as “Speedball”Series B. The original typefaces were a pair, called “Escritura Energica ” and “Escritura maravilla”. The typography has a dynamic air, caused partially by irregular alignment of the characters respect to the baseline and aesthetics takes us to the proposed commercial lettering or advertising of years 20-30. Confetti was one of the fonts selected by the website Typographica.org in its prestigious list of “Our Favorite Typefaces” in 2006.

Nolde is a new titling typeface named after the German-Danish painter and printmaker Emil Nolde, one of the first artists to work in the Expressionist style. Tautier is a display font based on the specimen of Enge Mediaeval-Antigua, published in 1900 from the Bauer Type Foundry. It is intentionally redrawn to keep its overall narrow proportions. Based on the existing basic alphabets, Tautier is redrawn to appear more classical and friendly, as you can notice in the rounded corners around the beaks, as well as the lachrymal terminals in lowercases. Tautier is a display typeface suitable for large applications, for example, headlines for editorial design, branding, webpages, and environmental design. It currently comes as a single-styled typeface disposed to extend with an italic version.
