ITC New Winchester is a revival of a typeface that never really had a first release. The original Winchester was an experimental design created by the American type designer W.A. Dwiggins in 1944. Dwiggins was interested in improving the legibility of the English language by reducing the number of ascenders and descenders; to do this, he gave Winchester very short descenders and created uncial forms for a number of letters. The result was a distinctive text typeface that was occasionally used by Dwiggins and Dorothy Abbe in handset form. Fifty years later, Indiana type designer Jim Spiece has turned Dwiggins's experiment into a new family of digital text types. Spiece gave New Winchester a bold weight, as well as small caps (both roman and italic) and old style figures; he also created two forms of the lowercase f, one with and one without an overhang (in metal type, a kern), and a full set of f-ligatures.

Everyone loves an Art Deco typeface. And there are hundreds of similarly-designed deco faces out there! But not one of them seems to have every form of every character that you want or need at any given moment. That’s why Swonderful was created! An unconventional classicistic Roman typeface This Roman typeface has a livelier effect than is typical of the epoch of classicistic style. In the lower case letters, an echo of the smoother forms of historically early scripts is identifiable. Typical of a classicistic Roman typeface are the emphasized and clear contrast in the weight of the strokes, the fine serifs and the accentuation of the vertical bold stem. Charpentier Classicistique is pleasantly legible. Its effect is much less harsh than other classicistic fonts. The pointed forms of M and N are uncommon. At 30°, the italic version of Charpentier Classicistique is unusually strongly slanted. The italic lower case letters refer, in part, to English handwriting, which also falls under classicism. Especially the curves show forms influenced by writing. Charpentier Classicistique supports all European languages including Turkish, Greek and Russian. It includes lots of ligatures, also discretional ones, as well as tabular figures and cap-height figures.

Although originally conceived as a magazine face – with strong serifs and open character shapes for good legibility in small sizes, and compact letter forms optimized for narrow columns and tight headlines – Marat evolved into a comprehensive family for general use. This specific construction and the round forms of the letters create an elegant, soft and friendly appearance. The typeface suits a wide range of typography, e.g. editorial, brochures, packaging and corporate design. In particular, in bold weights it works surprisingly well, which is not always the case with serif faces. Marat includes oldstyle and lining figures (both proportional and tabular), a wide range of language support and various OpenType features (e.g. ligatures, case-sensitive forms, fractions, superiors and inferiors). It is the perfect companion for Marat Sans, a clean and lively sans serif typeface. Marat has been selected by the Type Directors Club of New York to receive the Certificate of Excellence in Type Design 2008.

ITC Typados is the joint effort of Roselyne and Michel Besnard and is composed of characters in two different senses of the word. First, it is of course made of letters and symbols, clean and legible with generous widths and x-heights. There is a hint of Art Nouveau style in the tapering, brush-like strokes. But the figures of ITC Typados are also made of characters in the theatrical sense: little tear-drop heads on tapering bodies that bend themselves into the shapes of an alphabet while maintaining a life of their own. The typeface is based on a recurring character in Michel's sculpture and painting, Ado. Ado is the first character who sings and repeats itself in all my creations," says Michel. "This adventure brings new forms for my painting and my sculpture: coiffed heads, bodies in the form of a cone, arms in the form of spread wings, etc." "Type" plus a number of "Ados" equals ITC Typados."

Envisage is a distinctive new grotesk design by Alex Kaczun. Characterized by distinct details throughout as particularly visable in the capitals A, H and N. Linotype Projekt was created by German type designer Andreas Koch with both a well-defined inspiration and goal. It occurred to me that typefaces like Helvetica and Univers seemed to have a higher quality in hot-metal composition as with modern digital typesetting. They are stronger and livelier. This is in part due to the printing process, which presses the characters onto paper, and in part to the forms of the letters, which differ from the PostScript version of the same typeface. An important aspect of printing is the slight increase in character width resulting from the pressure which also serves as an optical correction to the forms. (True exact squares appear slightly barrel-formed to the eye.) I wanted to revive this peculiarity, not because of a nostalgic feeling, rather just because it is more attractive." The inspiration source for Pantomime Monogram is an unusual Art Deco design from a vintage embroidery publication which combines both sans-serif and flare serif styles to create a diamond monogram format. This monogram, which evokes visions of it etched into bakelite, was originally intended to adorn handkerchiefs and towels, but it has so many other possibilities. It is one of many monogram designs from the early 1900’s which fall into a two letter format that is either adorned or interwoven with framing styles.
