Addressotype is based on lettering from a vintage ad for the Addressograph-Multigraph Corporation, manufacturers of the Addressograph addressing machine. In days when the U.S. postal service delivered everything, mailing addresses were as important as email addresses are today. The Addressograph machines stamped out dog-tag-like plates that were used to print mailing labels at high volume. Embodying the company’s work ethic and durability, Addressotype recalls the gaspipe form of lettering popular in the 30s and 40s, updated to reflect the “streamlining” trend popular during the period.

Aldus was designed by Hermann Zapf and appeared with the font foundry D. Stempel AG in Frankfurt am Main in 1954. Zapf named this font after the famous Venetian printer Aldus Manutius, whose work is among the most important of the Renaissance period as well as Zapf’s inspiration for Aldus. Linotype Aldus was introduced by Linotype Library as a text font lighter than Palatino. Zapf’s goal with his Palatino and Aldus was to create a new form of Old Face typeface. This font gives text the feeling of elegance which was typical of the Renaissance.

Foundry Old Style was the first typeface to be released by The Foundry. Inspired by the incunabula typefaces of Nicolas Jensen, the letterforms were first created as calligraphy, with the aim of retaining the structure and free form of the pen stroke in the final drawing development. The resulting face is a contemporary translation that retains the classical tradition of the transitional roman style. Originally conceived as a text face, with a small weight range for good book work, Foundry Old Style is a versatile design that contrasts and compliments Foundry Sans.

Architype Konstrukt is a collection of avant-garde typefaces deriving mainly from the work of artists/designers of the inter-war years, whose ideals have helped to shape the design philosophies of the modernist movement in Europe. Due to their experimental nature character sets may be limited. Architype Van der Leck originates from the lettering that Bart Van der Leck created for ‘Flax’ magazine in 1941. The letterforms‘ restricted shapes and abstract, stencil-like forms reflect the strong geometric language of De Stijl and show influence from his abstract paintings.

Sanitation JNL is a bold Art Deco sans design inspired by some stylized hand lettering on a 1930s-era WPA (Works Progress Administration) poster and is available in both regular and oblique versions. The topic of the poster was "Your home is not complete without a sanitary unit" and that was recommended by the State Department of Public Health. A "sanitary unit" is the formal name for what rural folks called an "outhouse", and it's presumed the target group were homeowners not hooked up to major sewer lines such as in those rural areas.

Breuer Headline exhibits a modern geometric structure tempered with subtle strokes of friendly humanism. Its neutral forms and sturdy rhythm are convincing without being forceful. The Federal Art Project division of the WPA (Works Progress Administration) employed numerous artists, musicians, actors and other creative sorts in a effort to help many survive the Great Depression of the 1930s. One of the posters created by this project was for a "Card Party and Barter Benefit" with proceeds going toward the Nassau Art Teachers Benefit Fund - taking place at the Coca-Cola plant in Rockville Centre, New York. East Village JNL was derived from this poster, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.
