This font was made during testing of a neat little application, that traced hand-written letters on the fly. That application was later abandoned, and the font, named Simpel for it's obvious casual simplicity, was finished separately. This story goes up to the year 1998, and recently the font was returned from the archives. SImpel was completly remastered and some useful ligatures were added. It is nice, clean and really, quite simple. Which often comes very handy. It will work well in comic books, magazines and party flyers, for instance.

Germania is a Sans font based on classic roman proportions and forms based on my Imperia font. But I added that distinct, rigid, no-nonsense German touch. This monoline font with its classic proportions and personality is good for lots of occasions. And – I designed three »real« italic typefaces – not just slanting the straight ones. A handwritten ”font for technicians“ from ca. 1900. Very geometrical, rigid forms borrowed from the typical characteristics of Jugendstil / Art Nouveau. This script is found in a magazine from the Otto Maier publishing house, Ravensburg, which was issued sometime in the years shortly before WWI. The magazine is entitled ”Schriften-Sammlung für Techniker: Verkleinerte Schriften der wichtigsten Alphabete“ (Collection of scripts for technical specialists: reduced scripts of the most significant alphabets) and published by Karl O. Maier. The original copy, produced by means of a galvanized plate, is just 7 centimeters wide. It served as the model for technical professions in which, at that time, the captions of drawings were still done by hand. The characters have been scanned, digitized and greatly magnified. Special attention was given to ensure the ”uneven“ edges, typical of handwritten script, remained effectively noticeable even in the digitized form. As a result, this ”technical“ font retains a handmade touch. Especially worthy of note are the Jugendstil forms characteristic at the turn of the19th century. In comparison, many alleged ”ultramodern“ font types of today suddenly look quite old-fashioned. Maier’s Nr. 21 Pro is suitable for all European languages. It includes ”Latin Extended-A,“ for Central and Eastern Europe incl. Turkish, and even Cyrillic and Greek, too. The font includes several stylistic alternates as well as a number of ligatures.

Designed in 1950s Japan by Okanao & Kushiro, the perfect partnership until artistic temperaments drove them apart. The duo spent years crafting the font with the working title “Messenjā”, Okanao bringing technical expertise to craft letterforms, while Kushiro made it his life, obsessively working late into the night to check pages for errors. For him the project was never about making money, it was an artistic endeavor to reprint the great Western works of literature. When he found out Okanao had secretly sold the rights to the font for use as a logo for a major Japanese manufacturer, Kushiro burned all evidence of the designs in a fit of passionate fury. The two reportedly never spoke again. “Messenjā” was thought lost forever until a type specimen was discovered in a vintage typewriter box bought on eBay. Now redrawn and available as 57-nao, a faithful and beautifully crafted monospace characterized by what is considered Okanao’s defining moment, the angular loop on the lowercase ‘a’.

Ivan Bilibin was one of the best artists and designers of the Russian folk art movement of the early 1900s. His posters and his illustrative work are exceptional, and like many of the artists of the period he did a lot of hand lettering in various old-fashioned and modernistic interpretations of traditional Russian folk calligraphy. Old Thunder is a revival of an 1800’s Tuscan style font called Lavinia, we've expanded the original font to include a lowercase, an Open faced version, a very attractive Black face and last this set just wouldn't be complete without a Fill font. When you see the word Fill in a fonts name this describes its purpose which means the font is intended to be used for filling in the open space of its parent font or the Open faced shadowed version from that font family or group. Some Fill fonts look as if they may be used as stand alone fonts but others simply do not look good used as a plain font. The Fill font for Old Thunder was designed to work as both a fill and a regular font, although when used as a regular font the letter spacing will appear a little wide. If needed the spacing can be adjusted in some applications font settings, check the help file in your application for further information on spacing. You will need an application that allows layering of your fonts in order to take advantage of FontMesa Fill fonts.

Edgar No. 9 is an original design by Alex Kaczun. Edgar No. 9 is a derivative work based on his Big Boy typeface series. It was designed specifically for display headlines, logotype, branding and similar applications. Primarily a display, this extremely versatile font has generous proportions, large counters and loose fitting which also allow the font to work well across a wide range of text sizes. Edgar No. 9 is a heavy baroque slab serif and although it shares the underling skeleton of 'Big Boy', it is a much more compact in overall proportions and spacing.
