The new sans-serif Franzi typeface family – as neutral as can be, but at the same time individual and striking. Its unmistakable character lies in the detail, with no effect pushing itself to the fore. As a wide-running typeface with a relatively large x-height, the typeface family is perfectly suited to small text sizes but, with its elegant details, it leaves nothing to be desired in display applications either. Originally designed with constructed, often rectangular elements, Franzi has gradually been rounded during the development process and is now less hard in order to guarantee optimal legibility. A total of 20 well-developed fonts are available: 10 line thicknesses from hairline to black, each of which can be upright and italic. The italics are softly and elegantly drawn, while the upright characters appear much more severe. The design appeal reveals itself in the two-storey ‘a’ – a tribute to legibility in body copy; however, for those who prefer the geometric in applications, an alternative single-storey ‘a’ is also available. Diaconia Old Style is a new rendition of my workhorse body copy font that I originally designed to use for the body copy of "Printing in a Digital World." I became increasingly upset with the lack of lowercase numbers and true small caps. Diaconia started life as a modification of one of the Dutch Bible fonts I traced. It has changed a lot since then (although I have a hard time telling how much because I have lost the original). The plain and italic work especially well when used in very large sizes as display faces. The other four variants (small caps, heavy, heavy italic, and black) are designed for use in book production. Because I format all my own books, I was able to design fonts that met my needs exactly: lowercase numbers, SMALL CAPS font, Mac Command, Option, and Control symbols, ballot box in the section slot, and several other special characters. DiaconiaPro is the OpenType family of my body copy workhorse. Aeris™ typeface is a contemporary book face created by the American designer Tom Grace. This was originally brought out as a caps-only font, but later the foundry scrounged up a lowercase that wasn't our idea of a very good match. So we cleaned up the caps and made them a bit bolder, then drew a harmonizing lowercase.

The two Kwodsity fonts are derived from Kwersity, a narrow, blocky typeface with slab serifs and a high x-height. In Kwodsity Up the bottom edges and bottom serifs have been thickened, while in Kwodsity Down the top edges and serifs have been thickened.

A text and display font with square proportions, inspired by the type styles of soviet-era Russia. Very shallow ascenders and descenders and a large relative x-height, exaggerate the compact and geometric look. Related to Kursk 205 , its cousin with a rounder look.

Another bit of font inspiration came to the attention of Jeff Levine through his friend Gene Gable. An image of vintage packaging for Aquapruf Ear Drum Protectors (swimmer's ear plugs) offered the narrow and condensed lettering that is the basis for Slim Chance JNL.

Trovoada Mono is a monospaced font for use in print (but also looks great on display). Hand-drawing glyph by glyph, my intention was to get that old manual typewriter look, with uneven inks, but with a totally up-to-date, emotional and admittedly humorous attitude. Trovoada Mono borrows from classics like Courier and Letter Gothic, reinventing serifs here and there. The result is a font that is both familiar and unusual. As I love Greek typography, I made sure to include a full polytonic alphabet, in the same vintage spirit: the text looks very legible and matches the Latin characters. The font has no kerning, obviously, and no ligatures (this is a typewriter, my friend!), but it has important OpenType features: fractions, subscripts/superscripts, slashed zero and stylistic alternatives for some characters. The italics are 11 degrees, which brings a strong personality. Some characters have true italics, giving the text an overall texture different from the upright type. All that is missing is that nervous typewriter noise. Enjoy!

This is the tallest, skinniest, most condensed, non serif font I know of. I designed this because I felt a serious need for that one big, thin word to fit in a narrow space. It is great for ‘SALE!’ in a one column ad. Also is a life saver for several long words in a narrow space like Merry Christmas...
