The original design came from Berthold Herold typeface, designed by Hermann Hoffmann during 1913 (Art Nouveau style) in Germany. This project started from flyer printed during 1947 with movable type, the specimen was scanned as a source to development some of the uppercase letterforms. However the most unusual and tricky element from this sample is the leg from the uppercase (R) which is different from the original Herold design, until now I didn’t found where this version originally came from. This stencil typeface only contain the bold weight, but there are also available other versions without stencil cuts, like Nouveau LX and Nouveau LX Expanded.

In 1905 the Parisian typefounders Peignot & Cie. issued their Série 16. This clear roman with a large x-height and an italics soon enjoyed a great popularity. Coen Hofmann’s drawings made for the Seizième follow the original Peignot Série 16 as close as possible. The regular font has the original small caps, while all members of the family are enhanced, next to the ranging ones, with old style figures. Also superior and inferior figures are available. The original series did not have a bold version. This was, however, carefully drawn for this digital rendition. The Série 16 and its versions for the composing machines were much used for the type setting of scientific publications. That is why a comprehensive set of mathematical and sundry characters are added to the Seizième fonts. Next to the accented characters for the several West and East European languages the Seizième was also enhanced with a Cyrillic, also available in regular, italic and bold versions.

Dufour was named in honor of an art deco font called "Independent" designed in the 1930s by Collette and Dufour. "Dufour" is influenced by the original font, however, there are substantial differences: instead of small caps, a true lower case was created, the upper case character proportions and shapes have been greatly modified, and all missing characters have been created to make a truly modern font which nevertheless has all of the panache of the original. A related font is Collette, designed by Anton Scholtz, however, Dufour has a softer feel that is more true to the original art deco period. Dufour comes in four styles: Dufour Regular, Dufour Regular Outline, Dufour Condensed, and Dufour Condensed Outline. The font has been carefully kerned and best results are obtained if kerning is switched on. (All-caps passages work well.) It is best used to create a retro feel and in headings, subheads and in short passages of text. Very effective in marketing for products for children.

OmegaPixel Font Description I created this font for the game Hyper Ninja Blast (but made it useful to all kinds of games!). While creating the game, I searched for pixel fonts, but could not find a suitable one. The fonts were generally ugly and lacking the basic variations (italic and bold). So I decided to create my own pixel font. Just as pixel art can be better than a high-resolution painting, so pixel fonts don’t need to be always worse than traditional fonts. In OmegaPixel I tried to achieve elegance, readability and flexibility within the limitations of a 6 pixel x-height. With 4 versions (regular, italic, bold and bold italic), and a neutral feel, OmegaPixel can be used in any genre of games. Considering the general lack of money among indie game devs, I’m giving the regular version for free! For inspiration, I often remebered Minion’s lowercase ‘a’, Galliard italic lowercase ‘g’, and the calligraphy of Chinese emperor Huizong.

Cordel is the first digital typeface created by the founder of Tipos do aCASO in 1998. Its design refers to the unique woodcuts features used to illustrate the covers of old cordeis, pamphlets of Brazilian northeastern popular poetry. This unicase font presents irregular widths and spacing, a caricature of those woodcut graphics.

Angular Old Style by Viktor Kharyk is usable as display font, for non-formal texts, especially poetry, for children books and virtual games about adventures, history, and pirates and includes some original ornament set. By stylistic it connects with Italian Renaissance, Czechian types of the first half of 20th century and cut technology.

The Dutch De Stijl movement (1917-1931) sought to create an art which took abstraction to its logical extreme, as exhibited in the paintings of Piet Mondrian. Elastica is a new handwritten type system created by Resistenza, it is based on humanistic sans serif fonts of early 20th century. Irregular handwritten strokes that gives a D.I.Y feeling perfect to get a close sense of communication. When using all caps, It features three different sets of capitals which combine together randomly, creating an elastic random effect with infinite combinations. OpenType features offers also the opportunity to use the three different capital sets separately. Its optimized legibility, simple structure and low contrast was made to perform excellently with e-books and mobile apps in mind. We recommend combining Elastica with ‘Beach Please’.

Zapatista is derived from a typeface that I designed in 1998 but never released. It is a playful slab serif with a texture that is sometimes subtle and reminiscent of the irregularities of letterpress printing. Like a fine wine, this face has been aged to perfection and is now ready for public consumption. It includes a full character set with accented characters as well as a second full set of alternate uppercase, lowercase, and numbers. OpenType makes it easy to mix and match the two sets of letters to create custom designs. It's like having 2 fonts in one!

Positronic Toaster is a modern interpretation of the French upright scripts of the nineteenth century. It started off as an attempt to make a stylized script that didn't feel like it belonged on a 1950s chrome appliance. Later on, however, the design grew to embrace the qualities of that style of lettering. The result is something playful and elegant, that is not tied to any particular time period. The distinctive angular loops on the ascenders will join together in words like 'bulb' or 'wallflower' using OpenType contextual alternates. This typeface was inspired strongly by one of Ernhardt Ratdolt’s (1442-1528?) many beautiful typefaces. Mr. Ratdolt was a printer from the city of Augsburg, who had also worked for several years as a printer in Venice. He made many advances in printing technique and technology, including the decorated title page. Early books have a mysterious rhythm to the appearance of the text, due to small variances in letters caused by casting irregularities and ink transfer from the press. This supposed defect, which is present in this typeface, gives a pleasing effect when compared to the sterile regularity of modern printing technology.
