Floro is a typographic family with 3 members designed by Carlos Fabian Camargo. Its idea combines medieval ideas, grotesque, stencil and grunge for T-shirts, stickers, advertising material design. More specifically the concept of Floro join several DNAís coordinating X height, ascendant, descendant and wide, in which proportions and adaptive optics were determined to inject great visual impact when composing titles. Its forms and counter forms have imperfections controlled with vitality and consistency. Floro is useful for ranking words and phrases with corroded edges and creases between the lines of his letters. In that vein, Floro refers to improvised design, deletion and copying. For that reason, its determinants seem stencil patterns that attract the attention of the reader. Its inaccurate decisions were planned that way, in which the type of contrast seems made with a flat tip and the amount of contrast between thick and thin is medium. Its sizes, regular and italic shine by their systematic wear and terminations sometimes in pointed forms resembling medieval darkness. In short, we can say that Floro comes from the miscegenation of Gothic calligraphy texture, foundational calligraphy and some refinements of gothic writings with italic sans-serif ideas of late 19th century. Even with the blur appearance, floro has ideal proportions to pile for horizontal and vertical areas when composing titles with striking looks and robust. And finally, floro dingbats are related shields and stamps, to accompany the written resulting useful at the level of visual support and hierarchical.

The alcoholic beverage Gin is drunk around the world, as far back as the 13th century. Originally distilled as a medicine, it draws its main flavour from juniper berries. Gin is colourless itself but – due to its smooth taste – a major ingredient in a long list of famous colourful cocktails. Gimlet, Singapore Sling, Negroni, Charlie Chaplin, French 75, Vesper, Tom Collins, White Lady, Aviation, Monkey Gland, Southside, Gin Gin Mule and New Orleans Fizz are but a few of them. That made us decide it simply cannot be missing from the Vette Letters font collection. Vette Letters designer Henning Brehm originally designed VLNL Gindicate for the 2015 action movie Hitman: Agent 47. It was specifically used for the logo and signage of the maverick ‘Syndicate International’ organisation in the film. It lay dormant in a folder for a while, when it was reworked into this flashy 5 weight family. Busted is the very strange and out-of-character outburst of Bill Troop, a guy who was classically trained in everything, from classical piano and literature to classical photography and type design. As far as we could tell, Bill Troop is the kind of guy whose appearance and voice instantly trigger thoughts of black and white photos, fedoras, and pre-industrial age Europe. A few years ago, he even moved from the United States to England, where it took him less than a week to feel at home and start sounding like a Norwich native. Then something happened and the poor dude just snapped. Busted is the controversial result of the blood rushing to his head. If you know what exactly happened to him, please let us know. Concern, consideration and human interest story aside, Busted is a fascinating thing. It is a set of four interchangeable thick outline fonts where the same letter forms turn from wild to wilder to broken to somewhat clean. The sister fonts Andron 2 English and Andron 2 Deutsch provide a groundbreaking new possibility to render literature text bodies in a sophisticated traditional and yet modern way of type. In German typographic history there has once been a long-lasting struggle called the Frakturstreit (the blackletter quarrel). It was about wether German text ought to be composed in blackletter or rather in Roman type, a question upon which even Goethe, Schiller and other period celebrities got grey over time. However, blackletter type remained alive and has just recently seen an astonishing renaissance. This is not about a blackletter revisionism or some ‘mixture’ concept arguably bridging the gap between either worlds. Andron 2 English and Andron 2 Deutsch offer a new approach to circumvent that old antagonism. As for the lowercase letters I applied certain features of blackletter type onto the glyphs – but entirely abandoned the principle of the broken stroke as such. The result is a lowercase alphabet in the classical Andron style which may be considered an attractive alternative for text in English, German or even other languages. So it’s no longer entirely about choosing between ‘modern’ Roman or ‘ancient’ blackletter only. "The mule is an example of hybrid vigor, Charles Darwin wrote: The mule always appears to me a most surprising animal. That a hybrid should possess more reason, memory, obstinacy, social affection, powers of muscular endurance, and length of life, than either of its parents, seems to indicate that art has here outdone nature." They are typically very strong for their size compared to horses and are able to cope with bad weather better than donkeys. Mules rarely become ill and their behavior is Intelligent and sensitive. In the right home, they can make great companions for other equines, and wonderful pets. However, if they are unhandled or not correctly trained, mules have the potential to be dangerous. The inner shapes of Mule Cargo are almost identical between the Regular and the Heavy weight. This shared genom make them very powerful pair and a useful design tool for display purposes.

A type of “handwriting” discovered by chance, extremely abstract On April 8, 1948 a certain Walter Plaga wrote a crude poem about a hero on a commemorative plaque. The very poor reproduction of the handwritten original, etched into a metal sheet, produced extremely abstract forms so that — even if unintentional — a script completely void of bowls was created. That which originally was the normal clumsy handwriting of a layman thus transformed into a pseudo-modern deconstructive typeface, which in the 21st century appears contemporary. The capital letters especially reflect the original: in part they show forms labeled incorrectly ”old German“ handwriting, which is actually Latin, in the letters A D G I J K L S V W X Z , whereas C H N O P R appear very modern. Truly a form of handwriting: without joining the letters, especially between the lower case characters, a silhouette effect is formed. To a great extent Hero is impressive due to its driven-to-the-limit abstraction and to a lesser extent by retaining an antiquated and nearly illegible effect.

In ITC Arecibo, Argentinean type designer Luis Siquot has created a typeface of subtle typographic turns. At first glance, ITC Arecibo has a sturdy 19th century wood type flavor, yet the delicate hairline shadow is decidedly Art Deco. Its condensed proportions and character shapes have been carefully modeled to ensure legibility. Siquot added uniqueness and versatility to the face by drawing two sets of small caps: one in which the central horizontal strokes share the same plane (ITC Arecibo) as those in the full-size letters, and another where the horizontal strokes are proportional with the small caps(ITC Arecibo Too). Another intriguing subtlety is what Siquot calls the “soul of the face,” the distinctive highlight/shadow. “This ambiguous line is an effect I have wanted to incorporate into a design for some time,” says Siquot. “Is it a black hairline that surrounds the letters, or a white line incised into the left and bottom of strokes?” ITC Arecibo and ITC Arecibo Too: distinctive, powerful and economical of space.
