Cirth was invented by J.R.R. Tolkien for use in his novels. It is modelled on the Anglo-Saxon Runic alphabet, and is used to write the language of the Dwarves (Khuzdul) in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings in inscriptions in wood and stone. The inspiration source for MFC Whitworth Monogram is an alphabet set from a vintage embroidery alphabets book, Alphabets Broderies No. 238 by N. Alexandre & Cie. What began as 26 referenced capital letters has been expanded to three sets of alphabets within a single typeface. True to the original reference, the Capitals are the stylized cursive capital letters in all their gorgeousness. The lowercase encapsulates the capital letters intertwined within rectangular frame. By enabling Stylistic Alternates and typing any lowercase letter, you get each letter encapsulated and intertwined within an oval frame. A handful of decorative forms are placed in the 0-6 numeral slots. Originally intended to adorn handkerchiefs and other linens, this digital revival opens it up to a whole new realm of possibilities. This is one of many monogram designs from the late 1800's to early 1900’s that is loaded with panache and intricate detailing.

I used Arabic letters to give the same sound of each letter in the English Alphabet (a, b,c,….)

The Old Turkic script (also known as variously Göktürk script, Orkhon script, Orkhon-Yenisey script) is the alphabet used by the Göktürks and other early Turkic khanates during the 8th to 10th centuries to record the Old Turkic language. Words were usually written from right to left. According to some sources, Orkhon script is derived from variants of the Aramaic alphabet, in particular via the Pahlavi and Sogdian alphabets of Persia, or possibly via Kharosthi used to write Sanskrit The texts are mostly epitaphs (official or private), but there are also graffiti and a handful of short inscriptions found on archaeological artifacts, including a number of bronze mirrors.

Jean Evans' interest in type design dates back to her third-grade fascination with fancy script writing. Years later, work at a sign-painting school she found in the Yellow Pages® cemented her relationship with letterforms. Evans went on to study with master calligraphers and type designers, including the likes of Donald Jackson, Hermann Zapf and Matthew Carter. Evans' designs have been exhibited and collected around the globe, and her distinctive calligraphic style has been lauded by leading trade organizations, annuals and publications. Hatmaker, one of Evans' more popular typefaces, was originally developed for the Boston-based broadcast design firm of the same name. Inspiration for the design came from Ben Shahn's famous hand-constructed alphabet. Shahn's alphabet, however, was limited to capital letters. Daunted by the idea of designing a lowercase that would measure up to Shahn's capitals, I developed a second set of caps-simple, quirky, yet almost classic-to work as 'lowercase' with the Shahn-like caps," explains Evans. Mixing the two in Hatmaker, creates a lively interplay of light and dark."

Here I present Round - a type family that is derived form Epilepsja, which was my first alphabet commercially out. After its release I came to think that there should be other fonts of this design that would enrich the variety of choice. Here comes ‘Epilepsja Round’ which is soft and friendly while the Regular family remains firm and sharp. A 14-weight sans family based on the original British ‘M.O.T.’ (Ministry of Transport) alphabet. A capitals-only, single-weight design was drawn up around 1933 for use on Britain’s road network, and remained in use until Jock Kinnear and Margaret Calvert’s ‘Transport Alphabet’ was introduced for Britain's first motorway in 1958. The identity of the original designer is not preserved; however, Antony Froshaug in a 1963 ‘Design’ magazine article mentions Edward Johnston as an advisor. Speculation that it was based on Johnston’s London Transport alphabet is discussed in archived government documents from 1957: “So far as I am aware, the Ministry alphabet was not based on Johnston’s design; indeed, it has been suggested that Gill got his idea from Johnston. Our alphabet was based on advice from Hubert Llewellyn-Smith (then chairman of the British Institute of Industrial Art) and Mr. J. G. West, a senior architect of H. M. Office of Works.” A 1955-57 revision of the alphabet which polished the somewhat mechanical aspects of the original may be the work of stone carver and typographer David Kindersley. For the digitisation, Rian Hughes added an entirely new lower case, italics and a range of weights. The lower case mimics the forms of the capitals wherever possible, taking cues form Gill and Johnston for letters such as the a and g, with single-tier versions in the italic. A uniquely British font that is now available in a versatile family for modern use.

Carefreed is a rough script. The font includes upper and lowercase alphabets, numbers, punctuation, accented characters, symbols, and miscellaneous characters.

Surakarta is a display face of western characters with numerous optional ligatures modeled after the graceful Javanese alphabet still taught in many schools on the island of Java in Indonesia, though it has been replaced by the latin alphabet for most everyday purposes. This is the second in Parquillian Design’s series of fonts inspired by some of the beautiful lesser-known native scripts of Southeast Asia.

The Radonezh font is a Latin alphabet layout based on Russian Lettering I have seen. The font is designed to give a classic Medieval Eastern European feel with a hand-lettered style. Radonezh comes with full punctuation, a complete character set for most Western European Latin alphabet languages, Cyrillic languages, and polytonic orthography for Greek. Being a decorative font, it works best at larger point sizes.

Esencia, a CastleType original, was inspired by a Spanish stock certificate from 1941 with 11 beautiful art deco style letters for the words "PERFUMES y ESENCIAS". Slender, elegant, with a Spanish flare. Uppercase only with numerals and punctuation. Afrikana is based on various African letters and signs. The main inspiration for making this typeface was the book by Saki Mafundikwa, Afrikan Alphabets. Letters were designed based on signs and characters from African alphabets. They were than cut out of cardboard, scanned, traced and put in a font. You are free to modify the font in any way and have fun with it.

A bold sans serif with occasional rule-breaking vertical serifs on some characters was found within page examples from the book "100 Alphabets Publicitaires" ("100 Advertising Alphabets"). Although a few of those vertical serifs extended above the cap height in the hand lettering, they were made more uniform to keep a consistency in the digital version known as Peppermill JNL. Bickley Script was designed by Alan Meeks in 1986 and is based on the handwriting forms popular at the end of the 19th century. The flowery capitals contrast beautifully with the delicate and reserved lower case letters, fit perfectly together and enhance the handwritten character of the font. Bickley Script looks as though it were written with a fine tipped pen and has an elegant, nostalgic charm. The font is best for headlines as well as short to middle length texts and should be set in point sizes of 14 or larger, and Bickley Script's capitals can also be used as initials with other alphabets.

Osbourne is a display typeface with titles based on a refresh, a revival of Salem, originally designed by Keystone Type Foundry. A font with elevated x-height and condense proportions. Visibly “sharp.” In addition to the default version, it has two other versions: one that is sharper and another with wide alternatives to the circular characters. Between these and its five weights, Osbourne has a range of personalities to fit a designer’s needs. Think titles, branding, short texts, whatever you want to make look good. Yet another font in the Latinotype arsenal that covers more than 200 languages within the Latin alphabet and basic Cyrillic.

YomTov is a whimsical hebrew font. Traditional in design with a free spirit and slightly bounced. Hebrew alphabets contain 22 Hebrew letters along with five final letters which are automatically activated when used in Applications such as Apple Pages® and MicroSoft Word®. The Hebrew Letters do not contain cantillation marks very much used in everyday modern Hebrew. Designed with acomplete latin font that mirror the Hebrew letterforms. Latin lower-case letters have been replaced with smaller caps. So I made five rather odd characters for a logo for a friend… Then I thought I'd fill a couple of spare hours expanding it to a single alphabet… And some considerable time later I ended up with a whole font with full punctuation, a bunch of alternates, pretty broad international support and some OpenType features to keep things varied… There are elements of Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Lego, circuit boards and Ceefax, Memphis lamps and lab clamps, hieroglyphs, googly eyes and who knows what else… Intricate, insane, highly irregular, but somehow it hangs together… Throw down a few letters nice and big when the fancy takes you…

Designed for a role-playing scenario, this alphabet was fun to create and fun to ‘translate’ when incorporated into replica stelae.

Ammurapi was the last king of Ugarit, which was destroyed circa 1200 B.C. Back then all writing was done by hand and all that has been preserved is on clay tablets many of which were fired in the very destruction of the cities that enabled these documents to withstand the rvages of time. Ugarit unlike the other cuneiform scripts has a very limited number of glyphs. It is somehow exotically attractive. This font has been encoded in the appropriate unicode block to permit ease of use for scholarly purposes, but would also make a fine use as a decorative element.

Diamondwood JNL is based on examples of vintage wood type with condensed, elongated diamond shapes containing the various letters of the alphabet.

The Ivan Zemtsov font is based on the lettering of Russian mailartist Ivan Zemtsov, and features both the Latin and Cyrillic alphabets.

Jaggard is a classical renaissance penmanship inspired font which works great when used for display reasons only. Contains only uppercase alphabet designs.

Refuse has an extended Latin, extended Cyrillic and Greek alphabet so it will work with most languages in Europe and the Americas.

Drop Cap One is a drop cap or an initial cap font. Even though it has all the letters of the alphabet it is not an alphabet font to be used for headlines or body copy. It has no kerning or punctuation except a period. It does not have accent marks. There are basically 2 alphabets in this font. The lighter letters are lower case and the darker letters are upper case. The light and dark letters are interchangeable. While a fun desktop font the real inspiration for this font was my need for a webfont for initial caps for blogging. It could also make a great scrapbooking font too. Lots of uses for this quirky little font.
