The last couple of years felt like I was living in a bad dream: I witnessed crazy leaders, climate change and now Covid. I usually name my fonts after things that affect me and this one is not different. Dreamworld is a font I made with a cheap marker pen I liberated from my kids’ pencil box (I will put it back, pinky promise…). It is a bit rough, but also very easy to read and distinctive enough to make your work stand out. Of course it comes with extensive language support (let me mention Vietnamese again…) and two sets of alternate glyphs, that cycle as you type.

My family and I recently bought a fixer-upper farm from the 1930 and I have been renovating and building for the last three+ months. I have a lot on my mind (as you can imagine), so I write little notes to keep track of what I need to do. Of course, since I’m often in the middle of something that needs to be done NOW, these notes are kind of messy. I just finished the bathroom and toilet upstairs, so I could actually finish a new font! Scribble Note is an ode to all those messy notes I wrote. Comes with a cool Doodle pack as well!

My family and I recently moved to a ‘fixer upper’ farm from the 1930’s. It came with a slightly run down barn, 4000 square metres of land and a LOT of redcurrant bushes. I can’t really say that I am overly fond of them. I find them a bit too tart. As a kid, I used to smother them in sugar, but I can’t do that any longer, since I am a responsible dad… ;-) Redcurrant is a slightly wonky, slightly crazy handmade font. It can be used for book covers or post cards, but feel free to use it for whatever. Comes with cute little swashes as well.

Royal, majestic, elegant. These letters are based on Roman and Greek characters carved on stone. They come in 3 different styles. Normal and Shaded are designed to have serifs with a finer thinning. On the other hand, Metallic is bolder and simulates in the most realistic way three-dimensional metallic lettering. There are some alternate characters placed at lowercase positions as well as a few stylistic alternates which are accessed through the OpenType features. Pay attention to letters like Greek Omega (lowercase position) and Greek Xi (lowercase position) as well as B, R, K (lowercase position). Monumenta Pro was recently upgraded to support Latin, Greek and Cyrillic.

Is it necessary to tell the Gutenberg story? 1456 Gutenberg Pro is the second Gutenberg typeface produced by GLC foundry (look at our 1456 Gutenberg). This font was created from the so called "B42" character set used for the two Gutenberg Latin Bibles (42 and 36 lines), but with a better and finer design than in our first version, more faithful to the finest original printed books appearance. We offer also now a larger choice of the original ligatures and Latin abbreviations, as complete as possible to be usable with OTF specifications. The complete basic alphabet (with "long s" naturally)is strictly looking like the real one (including the curious twisted "X"). We have only recreated the capitals W and J, who was not existing in the time. The numerals, no more existing in the original type set, were inspired from those in use a few years later by early following printers, but matching with the Gutenberg font's pattern. The font includes West (including Celtic), East, Central European, Baltic and Turkish glyphs.

Bolívar is a contemporary display typeface inspired in the handwriting of one of the most prominent personalities of the Latin American 19th century: Simón Bolívar, “the liberator". The typeface intends to capture the passion of handwritten letterforms and to translate it into type. Among the characteristics that best contribute to its strong personality, are the impressive length of ascenders and descenders as well as the more than 45 degrees of slant. Bolívar mimics certain aspects of handwriting such as the slightly different baseline for each letter and ink clogs in the counters of some letters. Minalon is a brush script written with a natural brush. Written with quick movements using a brush pen. Handwritten and neat fonts. With quick dry strokes and a typical Minalon style. Mind Boggle was made during the renovation of our fixer upper farm house. We had to demolish an old annexe (because it was unsafe) and it caused us some stress, as one wrong movement of the excavator would mean at least a partial collapse of our home… Luckily the driver was a pro and it was mind boggling to see what he could do with a huge machine like that. Mind Boggling? Ah! Check! Mind Boggle is a handmade, all caps, headline font. It is a bit wobbly in places, but it comes with loads of character. The dotty style comes with thousands of hand made dots. They’re not perfect, they’re not even round, but they are unique!

Tilp Barde is a striking, moderately dynamic design suitable for many different typographic tasks. Its individual ductus is inspired by handwriting, however without calligraphic embellishment. There are no serifs but tiny endings which lead to think of wood-carving.

I bought a new coffee machine - the piston variety. It is shiny, made in Italy and I can make a killer espresso or latte with it. I usually start off the day with a pour over coffee and save my milky coffee for later. I also have two grinders: one for a coarse grind (pour over) and one for a finer grind (espresso and latte). Yes, you will probably say that it’s quite extravagant to have two grinders, but I do like my coffee! Anyways, this is what I thought of when I worked on Coarse Grind. Coarse Grind is a well balanced all caps display font. It comes with extensive language support and a set of alternates for the lower case letters.

ITC Gamma font is the work of designer Jovica Veljović. Named after the third letter of the Greek alphabet, ITC Gamma has almost no sharp corners. Its serifs, stroke endings and terminals are all rounded, a feature best seen in larger point sizes.

Cellophane Tape JNL is a stripped-down and slightly modified version of Eckhardt Trilinear JNL with open-ended letters. While the name Cellophane Tape JNL is nostalgic (tape is no longer made from cellophane), its still a fun, novelty font for many applications.

Hollander is a refined, yet sturdy text typeface designed by Gerard Unger. The name stems from the font’s similarity to the types attributed to van Dijk and Voskens, two Dutch punchcutters from the seventeenth century. Like those earlier Dutch types, Hollander has generous proportions, a tall x-height, and high contrast between thick and thin strokes. It was designed to work in the early arenas of digital technology, when letters were generated as coarse pixels with a cathode ray tube in the typesetters of the 1970s, and then as finer pixels with a laser beam in the machines of the 1980s. Hollander has a well-drawn stability that maintains legibility even on inferior quality paper. When used as a display face, Hollander is an excellent companion to one of Unger’s most successful text faces, Swift.

Sorren is a definitive bold condensed sans influenced by neo-grotesque designs. Ceres is has its roots in Cyan, our other font family. Like Cyan, Ceres has a complementary lowercase that provides more versatility than a classic Roman. Samhain is a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. There is no set date, but normally it is held around the end of October and beginning of November. Samhain font was made with a bamboo pen and Chinese ink on rough paper - hence the grungy look. It is quite a heavy font, so I wouldn't set a complete text in it, but it is ideal to create headlines, posters, postcards and invitations. Of course, Halloween comes to mind! Samhain comes with extensive language support.

Tusker Grotesk is a headline typeface designed for robust and high-impact use. The initial inspiration for Tusker came from postwar typefaces like Haettenschweiler, Impact and Helvetica Inserat which use very high x-heights. Other influences in the condensed end of the Tusker family are old grotesques like Folio Extra Condensed and Stephenson Blake Elongated Sans No.1 with their flat terminals and closed-up apertures. Then as the widths in Tusker grow, the lettering takes some more inspiration from gothic style sans such as Inland Type's Title Gothic No.8, while maintaining the optical weight established in the narrow end of the family. Each width set is duplexed, stackable and is ideal for headlines, logos and bold attention-grabbing editorial design. Tusker has extended latin coverage ideal for western, central and eastern European languages.

Soliden is a neo grotesk san serif font family with solid letterforms. Designed and published by Eko Bimantara in 2022, Soliden became a suitable choice for large display and functional purposes. The letterforms are built in large x-height with spacious counters. Full of texture and regal personality, Bell Martellus was derived from a book published in 1475 by Henricus Martellus entitled “Liber Insularum.” The writing style is based on the Carolingian Script created by the Emperor Charlemagne and his scribe, Alquin of York, in the 9th century A.D. This old world lettering comes with new world OpenType capabilities, including swash caps and small caps. The James Ford Bell Library at the University of Minnesota commissioned Bill Moran to develop this font as a means of introducing their amazing collection of rare books, maps and manuscripts to a wider audience. Once the historic script was fontified by Bill, it was forwarded to Chank Co, where we added some snazzy baubles for the discriminating typographer. Everybody can enjoy the antique genuine nature of Bell Martellus, but advanced OpenType users also get extra features in Adobe CS applications.

Bigticy is a typeface with a "new-retro" feeling. Its square outline is tempered by rounded angles. This makes it suitable for a large range of applications in the domains of magazine headlines and posters. The Narrow version has been drawn from a title found in an example (dated from the 50's) of the French newspaper "Le Dauphiné Libéré". For the Maxi style, I have tried to reduce to their minimum the inner white spaces. I had in mind those amazing stone walls that one can see in the antique Inca cities in Peru. The stones are so tightly joined that it is impossible to slip a sheet of paper between them. The Plain version is an interpolation of the two other ones. It is a very useful style since I keeps the main quality of each parent: the weight of the Maxi and the narrowness of the Narrow.
