Sharp End fonts support Latin Based Languages only (see Tech Specs). Sharp End's creation is inspired by Gothic sharpness shape but only applied to the ends of normal letters. On small/normal size typing, the difference is less visible (obscure), but will be more visible/more clear as the typing set larger. Thus, Sharp End fonts will work well for both text and display. Leroy is a font family of 5 members designed from geometrizing Roman and Gothic skeletons. Its purpose is to provide optimal reading of titles and paragraphs with strong mechanical flavor. Because of this, its variables are designed to sort information in media such as labels, signs and industrial atmosphere packaging related with the Soviet Union’s fonts in 1920. This idea matured white horizontal lines superimposed on alphabets drawn with an ancient architectural team known as “Leroy K & E Controlled Lettering System”. Then that evolved into a family concept unifying its proportion to the same X height for its members, resulting in a versatile type system. Therefore, Regular and Bold variables have low contrast between thick and thin strokes. Its upstream and downstream are extremely short, generating a suitable interline that clogs the vertical area. Its overall width equal to its X height, supports its tight spacing that compacts the horizontal area. Therefore, the variant with black caliber has plenty of contrast between thick and thin strokes. The light variable has a “blind” effect radiating light halos, ideal to propose hierarchies and combinations with orthogonal projection. In that sense, Leroy’s modular character reminds constructivist ideology merged with typographical variants suitable for graphic design with geometric look. To achieve this, I studied the softening of forms and counter blocks into a typographical system specially designed for composing useful information to attract attention. In that sense, the dingbats were obtained through a careful process of research and testings done with drawings that provided full and empty visual strategies that with the passage of time helped to forge the major decisions of a metamorphosis from industrial tools, birds and humans from pictogram mixing various genres.

Magola is a creamy flavor font family whose purpose is to season with emotions the reading of words and phrases formed by puffy glyphs coated with a caramel of empty spaces external and internal. Independently or in groups, members of the family serve to decorate and organize packaging or advertising material in letters apparently crafted for food or entertainment contexts. Its starting point was to draw letters like a ballon fish evolved into a black version with empty areas and microscopic contrasted with colorful inflated and filled areas. Then the challenge was based on the sum transferred between full and empty into a lighter caliber. In that vein, its overall design adapted skeletons of italics and Roman calligraphy. Therefore, its regular, bold and black files have great height "x" with upwards and downwards extremely short and large internal counterblocks to facilitate reading. In this regard, to strengthen its objective and capture the reader's attention, its kind of contrast and simulated auctions flat tip brush strokes, and amount of contrast between thick and thin in the black version is slightly inverted. Its sizes, smooth strokes and irregular lines reinforce its traditional spirit, so it is favorable to shine the information on posters or large-format media. In short, its optical conformation based on a non-literal way, in metrics similar in all family members to be easily exchanged without changing the ìxî height. Tomato is the digitization and quite elaborate expansion of an early 1970s Franklin Photolettering film type called Viola Flare. This typeface is an obvious child of funk, the audio-visual revolution that swept America and put an end to the art nouveau period we now associate with the hippy era. Funk is of course little more than jazz with a chorus and an emphatic beat. Nevertheless, it became the definition of cool in the 1970s, thanks to blaxploitation movies with excellent soundtracks like Shaft and Superfly. Funk began as a commercial audio experience, then later expanded its signature to cover everything, from design to fashion to the later birth of disco, which is really a further simplification of funk. Funk had very strong and unique typographical elements, particularly a kind of titling with an essentially western, wooden core that suddenly changed and flared in unexpected areas until a very individual brand was achieved. Everything that can be tacked on to the alphabet was used towards that individuality. Things like curls, swirls, swashes, ligatures were always plentiful in funk, sometimes giving the titling a specific gender, sometimes bulging, sometimes speeding, sometimes fading in the distance, sometimes doing nothing but crazily aligning with other design elements, but the result was always a fascinating creature that seemed to invariably want to dance and have fun. Tomato was built in exactly that spirit. The original film type certainly had enough swashes and curls to be an unmistakable funk font in itself, but our further expansion of it cements it and makes it the definite font for the genre. With as many as 12 different possibilities for some letters, the designer's choices for a titling set in Tomato are virtually limitless. The Postscript and True Type versions of Tomato come in five fonts, including two fonts for alternates, one font for ligatures, and one font for swashes. These are split into two affordable packages. The entire family package is also available at an even more affordable price, and includes complimentary Cyrillic, Greek, Turkish, and Central European versions of Tomato. A Tomato Pro OpenType version is also available. It is a single font that includes over 650 characters, glued together with extensive programming for convenience of use in OpenType-friendly applications, where you can watch the letters morph and dance as you push the buttons and change the options of your OT palette. From the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, by way of Toronto, comes Martie's handwriting. Martie Byrd is a school teacher in Roanoke, Virginia, and a friend of Canada Type's Rebecca Alaccari. After years of admiring the cheer and clarity of Martie's handwriting, we asked her to write out full alphabets for some cool font treatment. The intent was to do three different versions of her writing in two different pens, then use the auto-magic of OpenType to determine letter sequences and rotate character sets on the fly when the fonts are in use. A successful endeavor it was. Take a look at the images in the MyFonts gallery to see the character rotation in action, along with a visual explanation of why Martie is not just another handwriting font. Unlike other available felt tip and ballpoint handwriting fonts, the regular and bold variations are style-based, not weight-based. They are the handwritten expressions of two different Sharpie pens: The fine point one (Martie Bold), and the ultrafine one (Martie Regular). The style-based variation considerably helps the realism needed in design pieces that take advantage of the contrast of two different handwriting fonts. Weight thickening in handwriting is an obvious mechanical effect that only happens with computers. Weight changing by replacing pens is what happens in the real world. Martie Pro and Martie Pro Bold each contain three different character sets in a single font. Language support includes Western, Central and Eastern European languages for all three sets. This translates into each Pro font containing over 750 characters. Add OpenType code and stir, and you have true handwriting fonts with versatility unavailable out there in anything else of the genre. A software program that supports OpenType features is needed to use the randomization coded in Martie Pro and Martie Pro Bold. Current versions of QuarkXpress and Adobe applications (Photoshop, Illlustrator, InDesign) do contain support for the randomization feature. But if you don't have one of these apps, you can still use the interchangeable Type 1 or True Type fonts and change the characters manually to achieve the appearance of true handwriting. The Martie fonts come in a variety of price packages, from the affordable single fonts to value-laden complete sets. All the proceeds from these fonts received by Canada Type will be donated 50/50 to two primary schools: One in Roanoke (where Martie teaches), and one in Toronto (where the 10-year old, real Canada Type boss goes). So next time a design project needs a handwriting font, do the write thing and use Martie to keep it real.

The original Gelato Script has been updated and improved, not once, but twice. This version is kept here for legacy and compatibility issues, but I would encourage new users to check out Gelato Luxe or Gelato Fresco instead. Gelato Script is a smooth-flowing typeface with an air of familiarity. Influenced by both formal scripts and mid-Twentieth Century hand lettering. The power of OpenType is used with precision in the Contextual Alternate feature to make sure letters connect seamlessly, t’s cross where they can and swashes don't crash into neighboring glyphs. 781 glyphs make up this font, which is capable of speaking in many different languages. Alternate forms are grouped into stylistic sets to make it easy to change the mood of the text. For example, ss01 makes droopable letters drop below the baseline to break it up a little if required. I recommend using it sparingly, one glyph at a time, but if you do enable it for a whole chunk of text, the clever OpenType programming ensures that it doesn't go overboard. Sets 2, 3 and 4 bring about alternate forms of S, s, B and Q. Set 5 changes AE and OE to some perhaps controversial Upper/lowercase ligatures. Engage ss06 for the underline feature. After a word, simply type two or more underscores and a line extends backwards under the word you just typed. Don't worry if you have to break for a descender, the OpenType programming will take care of making sure it connects properly to the preceding character. Sets 7 and 8 are for alternate ampersands, and ss09 swaps the script r for a regular shaped r. There are swash capitals available for most uppercase letters, and the OpenType programming makes sure there is room for them under or over the following letters. There’s also a good amount of ligatures thrown in. The localised forms feature can be set for Polish, where acutes get steeper and lslash takes on its script form; Dutch, where IJ and ij digraphs become cool ligatured combinations; and Romanian and Moldovan, where cedillas are subsituted for comma accents. The stylistic alternates feature groups together a few of the stylistic sets for users that can't get to them directly. Gelato Script is a highly usable, powerful typeface. Perfect for everything from food packaging to wedding invitations, sports team logos to magazine headings. Use it however you see fit. Just one thing - it’s not designed for all-caps settings, so avoid that at all costs!

Pantoufle is French for slipper. Not the flipflop variety (or thongs if you’re from Australia), but the one you wear indoors when it’s cold. I have some too; Spanish ones, made from recycled PET bottles. Here in Holland, we call them ‘Pantoffels’ and you don’t have to be a language expert to see the resemblance between the French and the Dutch word. That is because the French are probably more savvy when it comes to keeping your feet warm and the Dutch just borrowed the word, pronunciation and all! Pantoufle is a font I made with a big fat marker pen. My kids had used it to decorate some gifts for Sinterklaas (if you want to know what Sinterklaas is, look it up). Pantoufle comes with extensive language support and a full set of alternates for the lower case glyphs. Enjoy!

David was promised Saul’s daughter in marriage after he defeated Goliath. However, while Saul procrastinated in delivering his elder daughter for marriage, David fell in love with the younger daughter Mikal (1 Samuel 18:20,28). Mikal was the only wife who was reported to have loved David. Her name, Mikal, meant brook, or stream, a symbol of the water of the word. Mikal is a versatile and elegant script font; well suited in the area of magazines, web pages, packaging, logotypes and advertising, etc. This font can be used as body text for its good legibility and accurate kerning. Mikal font has all the advantages of OpenType technology that allows a variety of combinations: Swash, old style numerals, standard and discretionary ligatures, contextual alternates, word ending and tails. Mikal supports all Central European character set as well as basic Western languages.

Pipeline is a futuristic and technical looking typeface. But as the name suggest it’s also earthly, (literally). Deep down underneath villages, city’s everywhere and even oceans there’s a network of pipelines. Providing us all sorts of supplies, like water and oil. Sewers wash fluid waste away. They are never to be looked upon as pretty or beautiful but purely functional. The soil peeled off and looked upon from above, a greater industrial infrastructure is revealed, cluttered like spaghetti, complex as the maze of corridors of termite colonies. I present two pipelines to you; one naked and one dressed. This typeface is very suitable for graphic, logo and poster design. It is quadratic shaped with round curves. It is modern and classic at the same time. It could be appealing for young, technical, digital, inventive and urban (sub) culture (at any age).

Koufiya is designed by Nadine Chahine in 2003 as part of her MA project at the University of Reading, UK and later released by Linotype in 2007. It is the first typeface to include a matching Arabic and Latin designed by the same designer at the same time with the intention of creating a harmonious balance between the two scripts. The Arabic part is based on the Early Kufi style popular in the 7th to 10th century AD. It is characterized by a strong horizontal baseline, horizontal stacking order, clear and open counters, and a general open feeling. Though based on the earliest styles on Arabic manuscript, the design paradoxically appears quite modern and fresh. The Latin part of Koufiya recalls a Dutch influence in its shallow top arches and rather squarish proportions. Both Arabic and Latin parts have been carefully designed to maintain the same optical size, weight, and rhythm. However, no sacrifices were made to make them appear closer to each other. They are designed so that they work well together on the printed page, and to make sure that the two scripts are harmonious when they are mixed together even if within the same paragraph. The font includes support for Arabic, Persian, and Urdu. It also includes proportional and tabular numerals for the supported languages.

ATF Headline Gothic cries out to be used in headlines, and that is exactly how it was used after it was first created by American Type Founders in 1936 with newspapers in mind. It would be hard to imagine a better typeface for a shocking, front-page headline in a scene from an old black-and-white movie. With its all-caps character set, and its big, bold, condensed design, ATF Headline Gothic is the epitome of its name. “Extra! Extra!” The style of ATF Headline Gothic recalls the bold, condensed gothic display faces of the 19th century, but with more refinement in its details than many large types of the time (typically wood type). Its most recognizable trait is the restrained, high-waisted M, with short diagonal strokes that end with their point well above the baseline; this avoids the sometimes cramped look of a bold condensed M with a deep “V” in the middle, common in many similar headline faces. The digital ATF Headline Gothic comes in a single weight, all caps, like its predecessor, but offers two styles: one crisply drawn, and a “Round” version with softer corners, to suggest a more “printed” feel, reminiscent of wood type. The alcoholic beverage Gin is drunk around the world, as far back as the 13th century. Originally distilled as a medicine, it draws its main flavour from juniper berries. Gin is colourless itself but – due to its smooth taste – a major ingredient in a long list of famous colourful cocktails. That made us decide it simply cannot be missing from the Vette Letters font collection. Vette Letters designer Henning Brehm originally designed VLNL Gindicate for the 2015 action movie Hitman: Agent 47. It was specifically used for the logo and signage of the maverick ‘Syndicate International’ organisation in the film. It lay dormant in a folder for a while, when it was reworked into this flashy 5 weight family. While sketching for a music project logo, Donald DBXL Beekman looked at several wood type alphabets as a starting poing. One of these was No.120, patented in 1880 by William Hamilton Page. With its distinct diagonally cut serifs and round shapes cut off at top and bottom, it bore just the right feel for the project. DBXL digitized the alphabet, adding all characters needed for a full set. During this process all shapes were widened, tweaked and streamlined to enhance consistency and rhythm along the whole font. VLNL Bonen is an all-caps display font with a very specific western cowboy or circus look. For instance burger or barbecue grill restaurants would do well with this one. We can easily see it shine on a festival flyer or poster as well, and not just country & western festivals. VLNL Bonen is suitable for any ‘big’ use that needs to stand out of the crowd.
