Chorus is a collective effort to sing in harmony. Similarly, each letter is designed to reflect harmony when used together to form a letter, sentence or paragraph. Letters like B, D, P and R have curved stroke (instead of straight line) while joining vertical stem. Letter K, k, and R have similar disjoint point in middle and unique plus stylish curve at foot. Letter C and G has distinct horizontal cut at top as compared to other letters in typeface e.g. S. Letter like b, h, m, n, and p have consistent stroke joint style with vertical stem. Ink traps in various letters are designed such that they blend with the letter form at certain degree instead, getting emphasised. The family comes in various styles in weight and width.

The Azbuka™ typeface family has its roots in a fairly pedestrian source. “The idea came in part from an old sign in London that read ‘SPRINKLER STOP VALVE’,” says Dave Farey, designer of the typeface. Like all good sign spotters, Farey took a photograph of the sign and filed it away for possible use in a lettering or typeface design project. In Prague a number of years later, the street signs reminded Farey of the London signage - and his camera came out again. Comparing the two back in his studio, he realized that the signs from London and Prague were not as similar as he initially thought. However, they were enough alike to serve as the foundation for a no-frills, 21st century sans serif typeface family. “I wanted to draw a wide range of weights, italic and condensed designs all in one go,” recalls Farey, “rather than add on to the family later.” His goal was to create a family that could be used for text and display copy, with sufficient weights to provide a broad typographic palette. Indeed, the completed design, created in collaboration with fellow type designer Richard Dawson, consists of twenty typefaces in eight weights ranging from extra light to extra black. The five mid-range designs have complementary italics. Seven condensed designs round out the family. Azbuka’s lighter weights perform remarkably well in blocks of text composition. “They’re clean and legible - and perhaps a little boring,” says Farey, “but they are perfect for copy with a down-to-earth, yet contemporary flavor.” The heavier weights are equally well suited for a variety of display uses. The designs are authoritative but not overbearing and will readily make a strong statement without calling attention to themselves. The condensed weights of Azbuka are ideal for those instances where you have a lot to say - and not much room to say it. The name Azbuka? It’s Russian for “alphabet.” And what more appropriate name could there be for this utilitarian, industrial-strength type family than alphabet? Actium is a contemporary multilingual sans serif typeface developed to help perfect typography automatically. Type Mafia has focussed on words with odd combinations of capital letters and numbers, such as product names and postal codes such as WD40 and H1N5, jump out of the text. They sit awkwardly together as the numerals have been designed to work with the lowercase, not the uppercase letters – affecting readability.To fix this Type Mafia invented Smart Capo™. Smart Capo™ Smart Capo is a feature that automatically activates once you type an uppercase letter together with a number. When a capital letter is sat next to a numeral, Smart Capo converts the letter to a mid-cap — a contemporary alternative to small caps — and the default old-style numeral to a lining numeral. Actium’s mid-caps and lining numerals have been designed with the same height (between cap and x-height) so they sit comfortably next to each other and fit more harmoniously into text. Smart Capo applies equal attention to capitalised words without any numbers, such as NAVO and USA, and are also automatically set into mid-capitals. Working on its own, Smart Capo saves time and money for the typographer — taking the pain out of text formatting — and makes it a more pleasurable experience for the reader. This feature is made possible by the use of ‘contextual alternates’, an OpenType feature used in modern font software, working with a set of characters specially designed at mid-cap height. By default these changes automatically take place so it doesn't need to be switched on, it will just work. Actium Actium’s design has an unusual diagonal contrast — much more common in a serifed face than in a sans serif — giving it more bite. The typeface looks elegant when set in large sizes and remains very legible when shown in small sizes. The family consists of six weights in two styles, making a dozen fonts. Weights range from light to black in roman and true italic. All fonts are fully loaded with functional elements. Actium boasts an extended Latin character set and with Greek. This means a wide range of Western languages are supported: perfect for use in bilingual publications and packaging. For numerals, each font includes old-style and lining figures in both proportional and tabular widths, with superiors and inferiors. These allow you to select the right set of numbers for the right task.

The 1913 sheet music for "There's A Girl in the Heart of Maryland (with a Heart That Belongs to Me)" may have had no shortage of words in the title - fifteen to be exact, but it also offered some nice hand lettering in the Art Nouveau style. Maryland JNL is a condensed typeface with an unusual twist. The "S" and "G" both have spurs on them, which is reminiscent of the preceding Victorian period and the popular spurred Tuscan alphabets of the time.

ITC Atelier Sans began as one of Curtis's renovations. His goal was to create a monoline design with Art Deco “sensibilities,” but without the geometric precision and relatively small x-height of faces like Futura or Kabel. Gentle curves and suggestions of serifs create a crisp, clean and open face that is at once sleek, sensuous and still affable. Available as a two-weight family with complementary italics, ITC Atelier Sans is another successful and usable revival from Nick Curtis.

El Guapo is a hand drawn font available in sans serif and script faces. It is suitable for headlines and call outs of all kinds where a hand made look is desired. Flair Hand is a pleasing hand-lettered cursive font with uppercase and lowercase alphabets, numbers, punctuation, symbols, and miscellaneous characters. Ishtar was the Babylonian goddess of war, fertility, love and sex - all in all a lethal combination. She wasn't the sweetheart her lovers had hoped for; I guess the 'war' part in her resume is a dead give-away. Ishtar font is no sweetheart either: it doesn't have a real baseline and its spooky character might not be everyone's cup of tea. It does have a certain charm, however, and befitting a Babylonian goddess, it comes with Babylonian language support!

Valor is a display face inspired by uncial forms seen through a modern roman lens. The result is a type with strong contrast between thick and thin strokes and a highly geometrical construction that even so retains a hint of the charm of hand-written uncial letters. A number of alternate forms and ligatures add to the personality of the face and offer flexibility in usage. Best suited for large titling work such as in posters or book and magazine covers.

Dom was designed by Peter Dombrezian for American Type Founders in 1951–52. It is an informal unjoined script typeface that looks brushwritten. Its letters are almost monotone, freely or casually drawn. Vertical strokes of them have irregular ending at different heights, and oval axis have slightly different slopes. This typeface is to create a friendly, informal look in signs, advertising, and invitations. The Cyrillic version of the Bitstream digital font was developed by Dmitry Kirsanov for ParaType in 2008.

I've had mixed feelings about Kabel; It is a brilliant headline font with a lot of character, but it's the characters I have problems with. The versions of all big foundries have the same flaws (in my opinion), especially lowecase a and s. So I finally went ahead and made an all new version. It is not Kabel, but very much like it. It has unique x-height, weight and width, and many individual characters are also different from the original.

Hibagon is the Japanese equivalent of the Yeti from the Himalayas, or Bigfoot from North America. It is usually sighted on Mt. Hiba (Hiroshima prefecture), hence the name. I have never seen Hibagon myself, even though I have visited Hiroshima several times. Hibagon font is a nice, handpainted, all caps font with a mythical feel to it. It probably won’t scare you, but it will look good on anything that needs a bit of brushwork, or a bit of roughness.

Cyrus Highsmith designed forty-four styles in this new Scotch series, which sets the tone of the front page of the Journal, envy of the newspaper industry. This version of the family is part of the Reading Edge series of fonts specifically designed for small text onscreen, having been adjusted to provide more generous proportions and roomier spacing, and having been hinted in TrueType for optimal rendering in low resolution environments.

Marli is an adaption of a face designed by F. Schweimanns and issued by the Stempel Foundry from 6 to 48 point, as “Korso”, in 1913. In 1936 the American Intertype issued their version for the line composing machines in 12 and 14 point as “Camera”. It is a very suitable type face for personal stationery, announcements, greeting cards and the like. The font is updated with a full Open Type character set, while also a Cyrillic has been added.

Influenza, whose name means 'the flu' in a number of languages, is a fat, single weight typeface. It's a bastard typeface, each character stands alone as an independent angular structure. Some characters have stylised blackletter features, some are quasi-bitmapped, some are blends between upper and lower case. This also inspired the name since the flu virus changes every time it comes around, it's a new disease every time you have to stay home under the covers drinking hot tea.

François Boltana was a French prolific lettering artist during the late 20th Century. He created the Stilla typeface in 1973. Stilla is a cursive “Fat Face”-style design, reminiscent of the first large advertising and display types produced in the wake of the successful Bodoni, Didot, and Walbaum text faces. Because of this pedigree, Stilla is the perfect headline choice for applications that look back to the 19th century. Stilla could also be used for very short headlines or big logos.
