Following to Swiss design principles, Alessandro Butti and Aldo Novarese designed the Microgramma font for the Nebiolo typefoundry in 1952. Microgramma is wide, almost like an extended" font, and it has the typical look of 1950s industrial design. The font has been immensely popular as a display face ever since its original release. The initial designs for this font first came from the idea of creating a dynamic and visually appealing typeface just by using squares so throughout the development stages I had restricted myself to just the use of squared paper. The hardest thing that I found was overcoming the problems regarding letter forms that have diagonal lines and therefore defer from the ongoing style of the typeface.

A long-set aside Art Deco typeface design begun (but not completed) may or not have been from a vintage source, but its roots go well back into Art Deco lettering. Taking the existing letters and thickening their weights, removing the counters and ending up with a completely new, solid alphabet design resulted in Deco Redux JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

In his book, Brushstroke and Freestyle Alphabets, Dan X. Solo called this fabulous fifties face Maidstone Script. Somewhat less willowy than the original, this version is still righteously retro, and takes its name from a collision between a poodle skirt and pedalpushers, two fifties fashion statements. We gave this new Font a special touch by adding an extra family-member: a stencil-version of the SPECX. My inspiration for the SPECX is based on the cover of a 1955 French School-Notebook. Surakarta is a display face of western characters with numerous optional ligatures modeled after the graceful Javanese alphabet still taught in many schools on the island of Java in Indonesia, though it has been replaced by the latin alphabet for most everyday purposes. This is the second in Parquillian Design’s series of fonts inspired by some of the beautiful lesser-known native scripts of Southeast Asia.

Inkster breaks all the rules. The serifs vary from letter to letter, if they have any serifs at all. The upper and lower case letters intermingle and the contrasting characters bounce all over the baseline. LineDrive was inspired by an obscure 19th century type design. It has no curved lines and what are normally circular elements in the lower-case letters are diamond-shaped. It might work best with only upper-case letters, which have a Victorian feel to them. In addition to the two weights of plain and bold, the family includes a shadowed version and an inline (or outlined) version.

Seymour Chwast designed the fun font Chwast Buffalo in 1981 and gave it his name. Its extremely robust figures are rendered in regular, even strokes, significantly reducing the inner white spaces. The typeface should therefore only be used in large and very large point sizes. A distinguishing characteristic of Chwast Buffalo is its half-circle serifs, which give the forms a technical, constructed appearance.

The name Lunda was a tribute to Berlingska Stilgjuteriet in Lund, a Swedish type foundry (1837–1980) which supported him from the start. Me neither, so in order to keep it alive I have made a font out of it and named it bearerFond; as in bearer bond, since it looks like it could be used on official documents. The idea was to create a typeface with a high black ratio that would work well in a compact style.
