I was working at Bozell Worldwide, an advertising agency, on their yearly promotional pitch. An art director was looking for a condensed informal headline treatment to be used on one of the new ad campaigns. I took several different font designs and started to condense and scale the proportions in the hopes of finding several good solutions. They finally settled on a version of Times Roman, scaled horizontally to about 50 percent proportions. I liked the look so much that I later went back to the drawing board and refined the concept by adding slanted serifs and a varying alignment on all the letter forms giving the typeface a very casual and informal appearance. At about that time, I was reading a book by Jack Kerouac, and was so inspired by his writings on the ‘beat generation’ that I decided to name the font ‘Beatnik’. Afterwards, I added a set of true small capitals and old style figures. I'm currently working on additional weights and variations to expand this ‘hip’ new font series. Groovin' baby.

Julia Child once said: the secret to great french cooking is butter, butter, butter. Thus, we present to you Manteiga - butter in Portuguese! - a typeface for heart-melting, word-spreading goodness. The idea we had was to play with brush lettering - a style we love - and go as far as we can with the shapes of the letters while finding balance between positive and negative space. We wanted biiiig personality. And small inconsistencies - the ones that add texture and life to lettering. We left extensive OpenType features and technical stuff aside for a moment, adding later only what we thought was necessary, like different shapes for the Q, a and g - for example. All caps setting was something we wanted from the beginning. In text case, the x-height is rather short for a brush script, and this lends a quirky voice. Spacing is ultra tiiiiight so don’t go too small, but make it as big as you want! Ah! And there are some fun dingbats thrown in for good measure.

This font was created from the so called "B42" character set used for the two Gutenberg Latin Bibles (42 and 36 lines), but with a better and finer design than in our first version, more faithful to the finest original printed books appearance. We offer also now a larger choice of the original ligatures and Latin abbreviations, as complete as possible to be usable with OTF specifications. The complete basic alphabet (with "long s" naturally)is strictly looking like the real one (including the curious twisted "X"). We have only recreated the capitals W and J, who was not existing in the time. The numerals, no more existing in the original type set, were inspired from those in use a few years later by early following printers, but matching with the Gutenberg font's pattern. Trovoada Mono is a monospaced font for use in print (but also looks great on display). Hand-drawing glyph by glyph, my intention was to get that old manual typewriter look, with uneven inks, but with a totally up-to-date, emotional and admittedly humorous attitude. Trovoada Mono borrows from classics like Courier and Letter Gothic, reinventing serifs here and there. The result is a font that is both familiar and unusual. As I love Greek typography, I made sure to include a full polytonic alphabet, in the same vintage spirit: the text looks very legible and matches the Latin characters. The font has no kerning, obviously, and no ligatures (this is a typewriter, my friend!), but it has important OpenType features: fractions, subscripts/superscripts, slashed zero and stylistic alternatives for some characters. The italics are 11 degrees, which brings a strong personality. Some characters have true italics, giving the text an overall texture different from the upright type. All that is missing is that nervous typewriter noise. Enjoy!

Diaria started as a project in Typeface Architecture for Master in Advanced Typograghy at EINA, Centre Universitari de Disseny i Art de Barcelona, a course tutored by Laura Meseguer and Íñigo Jerez Quintana. Later it has developed into Diaria Pro, an extensive typeface including Cyrillic script, small caps, and various OpenType features. Diaria Pro is a low-contrast serif typeface designed as a primary text face for the newspapers. Its large x-height and static exteriors allow comfortable reading in narrow columns, and calligrafic counters as well as dynamic serifs add humanist detail to overall perception and incline contrast axis without affecting interletter counterforms. Gunsmoke is a revival of a James Conner's Sons font that's been listed under different names such as Extended Clarendon Shaded, Original Ornamented and Galena. Dating back to 1888 this font was available with an original lowercase, numbers and punctuation. Today we've expanded the set to include the original shaded version a regular black, open left, open right and a fill font for the two open faced versions. The single Gunsmoke fill font is in alignment with the Gunsmoke Open R version and will also work with Gunsmoke Open L by shifting your fill font layer to align with the Open L version. You will need an application that works in layers in order to use the fill font with the Gunsmoke Open L and R fonts. Make sure you check out the left and right pointing gun hands on the less than and greater than keys, the gun alone is on the left and right brace keys. Remember to check your gun in with the Marshal when entering Dodge City.
