Franko Luin, Odense's designer, on this typeface: With Odense I entered the field where Optima reigns in royal majesty. The first question I received was, in fact, why I designed another Optima. Look closely: Odense has as much in common with Optima as Garamond with Baskerville. Am I right? Odense Neon is a special variant that can be used for logos or single words. I had the idea for it when I noticed that the neon tubes in a sign over a store only partially followed the characters. The name comes from the Danish town Odense, the town of the famous storyteller Hans Christian Andersen, author of, e.g., 'The Little Mermaid.' Odense is also the place where the first book in the Nordic countries was printed, the 'Breviarium Ottoniense', in 1482.

This font is inspired by Johannes Janssonius, well know as Jan Janszoon o Jan Janssonius (Arnhem, 1588 – Amsterdam, 1664), was a Dutch cartographer, publisher and engraver. Married to Hondius's daughter. He was the author of many masterpieces of cartography of the 1700s like Willem Blaeu and Hondius, famous maps with heavy use of decorations in the letterig to fill the spaces of oceans, seas, lakes and scrolls. Now you can easily recreate not just ancient maps without effort, but you can use this font creatively, to make unique, modern logos, product names, fresh packaging, hip fashion outfits, refined labels, signs, coordinated images ... Hundreds of alternatives to choose from and maybe to combine with other fonts in an original way. One extra font with 27 castles in Janszoon style are also usefull for map, of course, but also for many different creative artworks. Terafile, a sans serif family designed by Raúl Plancarte who was inspired by hi-tech aesthetics. It is made up of eight weight variants with their respective italic versions. Ideally it works to capture in a graphic way the universe related to technology, sci-fi, industry and similar topics. It is a mixed family, because the construction of certain letters (as in "a", "f", "z", "B", "P", among others) is enriched with different finishes in structure to gain differentiation and plasticity. In other words, it moves away from an entirely academic design. Another important line in the creative concept of this typeface is the function of its ink traps, which, in addition to fulfilling their primary function, serve to gain gestuality in its use. This font is capable of covering complex design needs by enabling association with specific themes, which makes it highly competitive in its graphic line.

The movie poster promoting the 1962 James Cagney comedy "One, Two Three" had it's text done in free-style hand lettering. Starting with an auto-trace in order to have an isolated version of the black letters separated from the red poster background, the tracing kept the basic forms intact, but with limited accuracy. Cleaning up and digitally reshaping the letters manually to form a more correct version [closer to the original movie poster], additional figures, foreign characters, accents and punctuation were drawn from scratch. This is now available as Handwritten Note JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

ITC Kumquat is the work of American designer Eric Stevens. He started with the logo for his company, Tower of Babel Design, and expanded upon the Mesopotamian look to create a typeface to match. Stevens imagined drawing figures in the sand with a stick and how this method would change the way one usually draws characters, usually with lines replacing curves. Most characters are slim but a few, like the uppercase A and L, were made to contrast with the rest. ITC Kumquat is a great display typeface for anything which should have an antiquated feel.""

Traiectum is the old Roman name for the city of Utrecht (in The Netherlands). When I started working on this font, I wanted to give it a Latin name and Traiectum sounded good! Traiectum is a hand drawn font with a regal and messy look. It was based on Goudy Old Style, a classic old-style serif typeface created in 1915 by Frederic W. Goudy. Traiectum is a multilingual, all caps font and I am sure you’ll find lots of uses for it. The city it was named after, Utrecht, is actually very nice! You should visit one day!

Endgame font was made using a very, VERY bad brush and Chinese ink. I had bought a bunch of brushes some time ago and I discovered that the hairs had been treated with some goo to keep them from sticking out. The goo didn’t really come off, so when I started to draw the glyphs for this font, the brush strokes were kind of wild. In the end, I really liked it (even though I will never again buy that particular brand of brushes). Endgame is a wild brush font. Comes with the works: diacritics, ligatures and alternates.

Karamelia is my grungy hand drawn brush script. Uppercase is pretty steady, while the lowercase dances and bounces in an unpredictable way. The font has got at lot of of OpenType features such as swashes, ligatures and stylistic alternates - which easily makes your text look more like authentic handwriting. I can think of loads of great opportunities in which this font would look absolutely great ... invitations, weddings, café menus, birthdays, various greeting cards ... or maybe even a loveletter?! I could mention more, but I think I got your fantasies started! Go crazy with Karamelia, and the world will love you for it!

FF Mutual is a friendly geometric sans serif full of subtle, unexpected details. Designer Luis Bandovas drew inspiration from an unlikely source—the credits from one of his favorite childhood shows, Space 1999—and turned that spark into a typeface that is warm and approachable, but contemporary. Bandovas built FF Mutual on a geometric skeleton, but the typeface has enough humanist touches to offset the rigidity usually found geometric designs. These touches are most apparent in the italics, where curved strokes on the “a” and “l” bring a softness to text. Generous spacing, angular details on letters like the “r” and “t,” and flared terminals on the “e,” “s,” and “c,” add further character to the design. FF Mutual’s bold shapes and retro-inspired warmth make it ideal for headlines, where the subtle details can really shine. The typeface is similarly well-suited for small blocks of text such as captions and call-outs, packaging design, and branding.

Encorpada Essential is part of Encorpada Project. It started in 2011 with Encorpada Black. Encorparda Pro was released in 2012 with 14 weight - being seven uprights and seven italics. The Pro version brought a lot of opentype features and a extended character set. We have been in lockdown for a long time now. The schools were also closed, meaning my kids had to stay at home. Punkaholic started out as a loopy, all caps display font with a semi condensed feel. Karmina is a text typeface developed mainly for pocket books and budget editions. It was built to withstand the worst printing conditions: low quality papers, high printing speed with web presses and variations in the ink level of the printing press. Some of Karmina's most representative features are the rather large serifs, intended to work perfectly in small reproduction sizes, the sharpness of the shapes, including some calligraphic reminiscences, and the large and yet graceful ink traps in the acute connections. Structurally, Karmina combines a significantly large x-height with relatively compressed letterforms. The result of these features grants Karmina outstanding legibility and economy. Karmina features four weights and 800 characters per weight, including small caps, discretionary ligatures, fractions and a complete range of numerals for every use. It also supports over 40 languages that use the latin extended alphabet. Karmina was selected in the text typography category at the Letras Latinas exhibition 2006 and won a merit in the European-wide ED-Awards competition 2007. Karmina Basic is a reduced version of Karmina. It is still an OT-font but without any particular features except of a set of ligatures, class-kerning and language support including CE and Baltic.

The basic letterforms for this typeface were found on a 1920s French poster for Les Arts de Feu by an unnamed artist. The stark geometric forms have been dressed up with an outline treatment, a drop-up shadow and a non-traditional small cap arrangement to make it even more striking, in a spooky kind of way. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

The history of this font is those. Once I assorted the old children's books which have stayed from times of my childhood. On one of them I have seen a trade mark of a printing house consisting of two Russian letters "L" and "B". From they were begun also with my font. And though finally from these letters a little that remained, elements of these letters can be seen in font D-block B.
