In its heyday, the Starlight Room of the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City quite frequently printed lunch and dinner menus for not only their rotating bill of fare, but also for special events held there. The 1937 Electrolux (Eastern) Appreciation Banquet has its own menu cover, and the lettering was in a simple, yet Art-Deco influenced condensed block design with squared features. This simple and quirky typeface has been digitally redrawn as Sales Convention JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

I have seen my share of badly stuffed animals. Most of them via pictures, but also on vacations here and there. They all had this really bad handcraft vibe, but at the same time some really ordinary and kind of cute looks. I did my best to capture this look and feeling in my Badly Stuffed Animal font: clumsy letters made with a blobbly pen, with naive and irregular lines - and the conclusion is something super useful for a project that needs an organic handmade look!

I don’t know about the weather on your side of the globe, but here it is mighty cold! I was trying out a new technique of font-making AND I was craving a pumpkin spice latte, so I named this font Spiced Pumpkin. Spiced Pumpkin is a rounded, thin, all caps typeface with a heart warming, ice melting attitude. It looks good on product packaging, book covers and postcards, so (in other words) give it a whirl and see what you’ll end up with!

Bohy was a candidate when it was felt there was a need for a "house font" to start a design service. Valsity is a squarish slab-serif family with five weights and two widths, each with an italics for a total of twenty members. With negligible contrast, it is almost monoline. It is for decorative uses; it is too square and lacks the contrast to make it a good choice for extensive text. Valsity began with a blending of two other squarish slab-serifs, Valgal and Kwersity, and its name reflects that ancestry. From there it took on a life of its own, often diverging from its parents.

Hildegard is a sans serif text face that works well in both larger and smaller point sizes. On close inspection, one will discover a world of subtle angle variation within the letters' structure that is loosely inspired the stroke movements one uses in calligraphy. These built-up strokes create visible ink traps at many joints, which in smaller sizes play a functional as well as an aesthetic role. Can noise be a beautiful sound? Well, I guess...because the other day when I was playing the good old Bleach album by Nirvana (which I consider lovely grunge music!) my wife yelled "Could you stop that noise?!" - and I answered "What noise?!" - ha-ha-ha! Anyway, I finished this font while listening to that particular lovely noise, and I knew that this crunchy, grungy, handmade and full of contextual alternates and multilingual font had to be named something with the word "noise" in it!

I named this font after one of my favorite songs by Soundgarden: "Rusty Cage". The font is a mishmash of letters, which were hand-drawn and given a photoshop overhaul to make them look grungy and grotesque. I mixed upper and lower case letters, added a whole bunch of alternate letters, spooned in some Salt and Calt and added a pinch of Liga as well. The result is a weird concoction, which looks good on posters, in ads and possibly even tattoos. I dare you!

Like the name suggests, the pi font Afroculture from typeface designer Boule Yvan depicts symbols and figures from African folk art. Stylized masks with different expressions and a number of sculptures lend variety to this font. The figures are consciously simple but shown from different perspectives. The black and white surfaces contrast with another and suggest the interplay between shadow and light. The figures of Afroculture are perfect for illustrating texts in a related context and their details come through best in larger point sizes.

Around 2018 or 2019, the State of Florida introduced new letter and number characters on its auto plates.
