Hiya, kids! Hiya, hiya, hiya! was the customary greeting of Froggy (a rather cheap rubber toy), who played second banana to otherwise-perennial sidekick Andy Devine on the 1950s TV show, Andy's Gang. The Magic Twanger was the thing which, when plunked, brought on the cartoons and other kid-friendly fare. Tuscan wood types cover a fairly wide range of styles, and there is sometimes confusion over what is classified as a Gothic Tuscan and what is considered an Antique Tuscan. HWT American Chromatic and P22 Tuscan Expanded are more precisely faces of the Antique Tuscan variety. Gothic Tuscans are generally absent of the heavy serifs typically associated with their Antique Tuscan brethren (although decorative bifurcation of terminals can imply serifs). Additional internal decoration with spikes along the stems gives some Tuscans their distinctive look, these faces are often described as “Circus Types.” Tuscan Extended is an extremely wide design, with a distinctive slab crossbar running through the center of most characters. Each letter is a complex system in its own right. This typeface is best used very large in short headline work. The style defies falling clearly into either the Antique Tuscan or Gothic Tuscan category. The new HWT version of Tuscan Extended has been meticulously redrawn by Frank Grießhammer. During production, he also incorporated a number of new letterforms, bringing the font to over 300 characters (including a full ASCII character set and Central European accented characters).

Kostic Serif is a classic transitional typeface (like Baskerville, Bookman, Caslon, Times) with tall, clean characters and a large glyph set to support all European languages - Greek and Cyrillic script included. Excellent for setting multiple pages of text and packed with OpenType features (proportional lining and oldstyle numbers, tabular figures, superscript and subscript, numerator and denominator figures, fractions and 31 ligature in 659 characters), it should meet the demands of even the most demanding typographic works. Kostic Serif is made with fairly large x-height, so the text is legible in very small sizes. Zoran began the work on Kostic Serif around 2002 and after completing Regular, Bold and matching italics, he wasn’t too pleased with the design, so he dropped further work on it to make other fonts. In 2010 Nikola came upon unfinished files for Kostic Serif, and decided to redesign the letters, while retaining basic proportions and widths that Zoran established earlier. When they were both pleased with the new look of the font, they made Medium and decided to add CE and Greek script to the glyph set, to make it pan-european.

Modesto Initials had existed as a single font for several years. I recently added a fill font to put color in the Inlines. The Inline font still works by itself. The Fill font works alone too, as an ultra Modesto on steroids. They work best together. Modesto is a loose-knit family based on a signpainters lettering style popular in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. It evolved from the lettering I used for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Logo. The Modesto family was not planned. It just happened, a few fonts at a time over about fifteen years. A lament is a sad song, and the music of the cowboys of the Old West had their fair share of them. However, a vintage piece of sheet music from the early part of the 20th century with the title "The Dying Cowboy" brought at least one positive trait to its mournful song. The title lettering was drawn in a fashion that emulated lettering made with quick strokes of a paintbrush, and became the inspiration for Cowboy Lament JNL.
