My father is retired from teaching after a distinguished career as a professor at the University of Texas (and other colleges). He's also retired from writing in longhand, ever since I digitized his script several years ago. Professor is a slightly modified version of my ol' dad's cursive hand -- a good, strong, helpful, friendly, personable hand, much like the man. Use Professor for all your casual handwriting needs: my father doesn't mind. Comes in a single, medium-weight style.

Setsuko finds its origins on the ancient Silk Road, a network of trade routes crossing the continent of Asia, named for the Chinese silk trade which began in the Han Dynasty more than two thousand years ago. I designed this font a few years ago to address a direct problem. My work demanded small paragraphs of text to be screenprinted in a varsity font style. The house varsity was rather uneven and created small blobs of ink at sharp angles when printed. I designed Beau's Varsity to address both of these problems. The new font eliminated the blobbing, and I like to think my original design is a step up in evenness from the other options.

Sometimes you need things organised in a neat way. Organic Tuesday has that, but also a will to break free at the same time. A few days ago, my good friend David from Hanoded.com visited me for a few days. We drank a lot of coffee and walked the streets of Copenhagen - we even took a trip up in Rundetårn! :) Well, on one of our walk (of course looking for inspiration for new fonts) we spotted this handmade sign. We agreed to make a font of the 7 letters available, using our own imagination and style! I called my font Mundbind DK and David named his Mundbind NL - of course it is the landcodes of Denmark and Holland. As you can tell, the font is uneven and somewhat unpredictable - following only the "rules" of the person who handprinted that sign ... and not many of the rules of the good old and respected painter who make beautiful signs ... however, this sign had it's beauty in a natural and innocent way.

SPQR Senatus Populusque Romanus or The Senate and People of Rome as quoted by the likes of Marcus Tullius Cicero or Tully to his friends and Titus Livius otherwise known as Livy. SPQR appeared on battle standards carried by Roman troops and no doubt can still be seen chiseled into stone facades across the old empire of the ancient Romans. This evokes visions of stonemasons delicately inscribing messages that were meant to endure, one which can still be seen on the Trajan column circa 114AD. Emporia Roman is a modern display font that was inspired by the craft of those ancient artisans, with an added lowercase set, some flourished alternates, an oldstyle set of figures and now with a matching Italic.
