A late nineteenth-century type specimen catalog from Farmer, Little & Co. yielded this droll little typeface, originally called "Arbor". The distinctive decorations of the face suggested a fool's cap, and thus the font got its current name. And don't call me Surely.

This is the Bruce Foundry’s Old Style No.20, which was loosely based on the Miller & Richard Old Style. It was recut at Lanston under Sol Hess’ direction in 1909, and survives as the second text face in the Sears Roebuck Catalogue.

AngloAngkor is a display face of Western characters inspired by the elegant “round script” style of the Khmer alphabet of Cambodia. It is the first of a projected series inspired by some of the beautiful lesser-known native scripts of Southeast Asia.

An unreleased typeface called "Aragón", designed by Enric Crous-Vidal, provided the inspiration for this decidedly retro face. It’s quite useful for distinctive and commanding headlines. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

Pepita was drawn for Monotype in 1959 by Hungarian designer Imre Reiner. It is a brush script face with a lively personality, adding an impulsive feel to informal display purposes. The Pepita font is often chosen for greeting cards, menus, calendars and packaging.

PhederFrack is a calligraphic Fraktur face with three weights and a shadowed version. The shadow of the shadow version is also a separate font and it can be used to overlay the shadowed version, giving the shadow a different color than the letters.

J. M. Bergling, in his 1914 masterwork Art Alphabets and Lettering, offered this face as suitable for all occasions Greek, and we couldn't agree more. Both versions of this font include the complete Unicode 1252 Latin and Unicode 1250 Central European character sets.

Brandegoris is a set of traditional split-pen capitals with two forms for most of the letters. It is excellent for headers and titles, especially on web pages and also works well as initial characters in combination with a serif text face.

Coen Hofmann revives an original design by Germany type foundry Schriftguss from 1940: His digital Admira is expanded with an extensive open type character set and even provides full Cyrillic. The face is set to best use at point sizes above 24.

FlyHigh is a decorative text face with slab serifs. It comes in eight styles: plain, semibold, bold, extrabold, italic, semibold italic, bold italic, and extrabold italic. Its low x-height makes it more appropriate for uses such as invitations than for book text.

Fleischer is a rough and playful display typeface good for headlines and posters. The face is based on historical letterforms combined with energetic 20th century pulp-style lettering. Fleischer comes with caps and small caps plus West, Central and East European language support.

A further development of the Colosseum range but this with a slab serif. Visually monoline and modern in appearence it still retains its Trajan characteristics. The addition of Spartacus black with its unusual Italic gives a the face a strong original headline font.

Folkwang is an unusual roman type with a lowercase that resembles an upright italic. Unusual top serifs are contrasted by almost no foot serifs. Originally released by the Klingspor foundry in 1955, this face originated from Hermann Schardt while he was the director of the Folkwang Werkkunstschule in Essen Germany circa 1949. According to British book designer and printing historian John Dreyfus in the 1955 Penrose Annual: Folkwang “…is a lovingly made piece of work which could have easily have been little more than an act of awe-struck reverence for the calligraphic techniques rediscovered by Edward Johnston and spread abroad in Germany by Anna Simons. Of special interest is the serif treatment of the lower-case letters: at the feet the terminals are mostly left bare, but the ascenders and the cross-strokes of the f and t are given elaborate curving serifs which in the mass create an effect unusual in a page of letters made as movable types, resembling rather more a piece of intaglio engraving. The ligatures ch and ck are original and successful.”

Habana Deco ML was inspired by a hand-lettered sign on the stucco exterior of a small pharmacy in modern-day city of Havana, Cuba. It, in turn, was based on the fat-faced Art Deco lettering of the late 20s and early 30s, especially the Futurismo posters out of Italy, as well as alphabets designed in The Netherlands, France, USA and even the Soviet Union. There are 24 stylistic alternate glyphs (SALT), many inspired by a variety of these sources, including a couple from the sign in the front of the Congress Hotel in South Beach, Miami. The others features of the Habana Deco include 363 glyphs, 184 kerning pairs (KERN), 14 ornaments and shapes (ORNM) and 15 discretionary ligatures (DLIG). This is a font with which you can have fun. The zip package includes two versions of the font at no extra charge. There is an OTF version which is in Open PS (Post Script Type 1) format and a TTF version which is in Open TT (True Type)format. The story of Serena is a unique one among revivals. Serena was neither a metal face nor a film one. In fact it never went anywhere beyond Stefan Schlesinger’s 1940-41 initial sketches (which he called Saranna). A year later, while working with Dick Dooijes on the Rondo typeface, Schlesinger was sent to a concentration camp where he died, along with any material prospects for the gorgeous letters he'd drawn. The only sketches left of Schlesinger’s Saranna work are found in the archives of the Drukkerij Trio (the owner of which was Schlesinger’s brother-in-law). The sketches were done in pencil and ink over pencil on four sheets of paper. And now Hans van Maanen revives Schlesinger’s spirit as closely as the drawings permit, and elaborately expands the work to cover a multitude of codepages and languages. It took more than 65 years for Schlesinger’s drawings to see the light, so van Maanen made sure to bring them to life stylishly and respectfully. Serena embodies the peace and calm rarely ever found in mainstream calligraphy or other genres of display type. With upright elegance and a slight Eastern touch, this typeface expertly bridges the gracefully casual with the deeply spiritual. The light and soft letter forms add a pleasant, breezy element to anything they touch. In 1912 Gerard Meynell, with J.H. Mason, Ernest Jackson and Edward Johnston, commissioned this large x-height typeface modelled on Caslon’s designs from Pierpont and the Monotype Corporation as the text face for The Imprint, a short-lived magazine about fine printing and typography.

A bold, condensed slab serif face A July 9, 1935 trade paper ad for Paramount Pictures’ 1st quarter film releases sported hand lettering with chamfered slab serifs. This condensed type design is now available as Preferred Shares JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Copacabana is heavily based on one of my favourite typefaces Goudy Old Style Italic. It is sharper and more clearly defined than Goudy yet still retains it old style characteristics. The face is slightly angled so is basically upright whilst still retaining Italic characteristics.
