The design process of this font was rudely interrupted on August 11th, 2015, when my first child, Hazel, was born. Thinking up names for fonts can be tricky, as can thinking up names for babies, so when the font was finally finished, it seemed like a good idea to kill two birds with one stone, and here it is: Hazel Script. Hazel Script is a finely crafted, elegant, connecting script. I wanted to make something unique, and to this end, the contrast in the face is not based on any ductal logic, or the writing of some imagined tool. The thick parts of glyphs are purely aesthetic devices, placed to give the otherwise monoline font an interesting rhythm. The over-sized upper case letters follow a mid-century lettering skeleton, and swash forms can be used judiciously to add spice to the text. Hazel Script works "out of the box" but to really get the best out of it, use OpenType-savvy programs to unlock a world of swashes, alternates, ligatures and the like. In detail, the features are as follows: Swash - alternate forms for many glyphs Stylistic Sets - 1: script r, 2: alternate s, 3: script z, 4 and 5: more swash options, 4,5,6 and 7: access to alternate ampersands (the font boasts six to choose from!), 8: connecting forms for K, L, R, X and Z. Localised forms - ij digraphs for Dutch, and a script lslash for Polish. Standard ligatures - a mixture of ligatures, including the 'percent off' (just type "% off") and a heart that connects to the ends of words (type "<3") Automatic fractions Ordinals - a and o for Spanish etc. but also s,t,r,d,h and n for English 1st 2nd and 3rd etc. Contextual alternates - automatically places special start and end glyphs where necessary. Hazel Script would look great in glossy magazines set large, or would make a slightly unorthodox choice for wedding stationery, birth announcements, letterheads...

Mercurial has this flavor, but it wasn’t derived from logotypes. Instead, it began as a digitization of a film typeface from LetterGraphics in the early 70's known as "Sam". It visual ties to this genre of automotive logotypes and fonts like Handel Gothic lend a familiarity to it, yet it has an identity all its own. As with so many automotive logotypes, this singular style film typeface, lacked an expansive family which shows off all potential the logotypes have and what they "could" be and do. I've always been in love with fat didones. That’s the reason of Posh. In search of something unique, I started this family back in 2013 with the aim of creating the fattest yet readable bodonian typeface in the market: It was a challenge, because roman fonts need generous counters (or what some call white spaces) and taking them to the extreme of inexistence attempted against the construction of many glyphs. Ears, dots, terminals and serifs always need some extra space so I had to find the exact point of boldness to make characters which have those attributes work well in the middle of those which haven't. (1) After a while, I felt I was again ‘in my element’: Big contrasted letters, sexy and elegant curves, and that Lubalinesque feeling that characterise my fonts. (2) Words written with Posh are a explosion of elegance and sensuality due to the fact that its didone attributes were exaggerated. Since it’s full of alternate glyphs, one can change and choose them until a nice block of ‘‘black’’ is achieved. (3) To accompany the regular style, I designed Posh Inline, a font with the same quantity of glyphs than the regular one; an all caps style called Posh Capitals, and also a really playful Italic version. I hope you find this one delicious like I do! This font is dedicated to all who understand letters are not just meant to be read, but also to be appreciated in group and individually. Enjoy it. NOTES (1) In example, it can be easy to design a fat letter ‘n’ with almost no counter, but really tough to make a satisfactory letter ‘s’ with serifs to match that ‘n’. Irish Penny is based on the lettering from Percy Metcalfe's beautiful and influential pre-decimal coinage of Ireland, the Barnyard Collection. The font is more monoline than is conventional for Irish insular styles, almost giving the feel of a modern soft sans, and perfect for small and large scale display purposes. Irish Penny contains a full complement of Latin Extended-A accented characters, Irish lenited consonants with the dot accent, and the tironian et which is commonly used in Ireland instead of an ampersand. Lowercase characters are provided small caps style, slightly reduced in size and subtly thickened in weight. The licensed font comes with a faux italic, and although obliques are not common among insular typefaces, Irish Penny Italic is a useful smart and sporty extra. All of the styles together have over 400 characters in 9 different thicknesses. The Adagio family was created mostly for company identities. The idea was to create a wide range of different varieties which are stylistically consistent. Adagio Serif - Characterises with strong contrast and high detail in calligraphic character cuts, what gives it a light feeling. Unlike the Slab version, serif variety has asymmetrical serifs. Thanks to large X length, and highly stretched descenders, it also works correct in longer text, while its strong detail is good for headlines. The Serif version is a great complement for Adagio Sans and Adagio Slab.

Mezalia Sans is a logical continuation of the Mezalia family. Its shapes are based on medieval calligraphic style: the Bastarda. This time the evolution is taken a step further, as these classic shapes are merged with the straightforwardness of a modern sans-serif. This results in an original, strong yet very much usable typeface, that can hold its own in a wide range of applications. Mezalia Sans has two distinct styles: straight and cursive (true italic if you will, although the word is not really correct here), which come in ten weights, from thin to black. This wide range ensures that whether you are looking for delicate or bold strokes (or a combination of both) you will be satisfied. Every style also contains a set of small caps (with matching punctuation). Old-style, proportional and tabular numerals are included too, along with ligatures, symbols and language support in Adobe Latin 3 range.

The Wild West meets Russia and India in this heavy duty display face. Although it's uppercase only, most of the characters vary between the uppercase and lowercase alphabets, so it's easy to give your text a hand-made feel by mixing up your cases. OpenType savvy applications can really exploit the extra features of this font. Engage contextual alternates, and G, C, L and alternate form of E will change when placed before a letter with a crossbar to create some cool effects (see the CK and LE combinations in the poster). There are standard ligatures for ff and FF combinations, and discretionary ligatures for 'and', 'the', 'No', 'Mc' and 'Co'. Engage stylistic alternates for a reversed 3 version of E, and the obligatory backwards R for that faux-Russian effect. Also included in the font is a host of ornaments. This font is perfect for wanted posters, heavy metal band logos, Communist propaganda leaflets and no doubt a load of other things too.

As as a computer programmer, it is my job to stare at screens of text all day. As soon as I learned the mechanics of font design, I boldly set out to design a typeface from my own handwriting that I could use to make my life easier. First, it had to have very distinctive numerals (trust me, it can be easy to mistake an 8 for a 3 in code), it had to have huge punctuation characters (even Perl code like '[lN*1lK[d2%Sa2/d0' looks good in Debug), and it had to be a bit friendlier than Courier (so that I don't give up hope when my code won't compile). I had so much fun designing it that I decided to give it strange lower-case 'i's and 'm's as a bonus. I also spent far too much time hinting it so that it would look as nice as possible at low resolutions.
