GRUND is a new fontographic adaption of a remarkable 1920s epigraphical find in the city of Leipsic. This old well-known European trade fair hotspot struggled with a severe shortage of exhibition space around 1920. The solution was to dig deeper into the matter – literally – and 1924 the world’s first underground trade fair exhibition hall was opened right under the city’s central market square. After several changes of use during the past decades the sophisticated Art Deco entrance structure (architect: Otto Droge) was re-opened in December 2013 as a gateway to a new subway rail track. – The original brass lettering of the UNTERGRUNDMESSHALLE MARKT has been retrieved – and served as the inspiration for this new and unique font. These initials set I collected from Early 15th century manuscript called Claudii Ptolemei Cosmographia, created by the famous Greek scholar Claudius Ptolemaeus in the middle of the 2nd century. The origins of this style called White Vine with interlaced patterns and vine should be found in Ottonian Renaissance manuscripts. UXB Stencil and its companion UXB Spray contain both the stencil and the sprayed letters in two fonts. The font is a headline display uppercase only character set, which is duplicated in the lowercase keys, identical in form (except for an alternate “Z”). No need to remember to hit the caps lock, the font will work with lowercase key strokes. UXB Spray is also a headline display uppercase only character set but, includes a few “drip” characters (find them in the lowercase key positions) these apply when you have held the spraycan over the stencil too long and made a mess. Use separately or together for a maximum design explosion. The fonts used together with color can create many nice design effects- by offsetting characters and putting one font in front of the other for a second effect. UXB it’s an emergency.

Rondalia is a timeless yet modern font in which the strokes vary in thickness. It is highly readable yet has an informality combined with a quiet elegance. Rondalia is clean and rounded with a slightly Byzantine flavor. It is extremely versatile, equally effective for magazine design, movie posters and cosmetic ads, and for invitations, greeting cards and company profiles. The fact that there is very little difference in height between upper and lower case letters creates a calm, peaceful impression. The font is letterspaced and kerned and has a complete character set (all upper and lower case, numerals and mathematical symbols and a complete set of accented and special characters).

From the dainty light weight through to the striking UltraBold, Otama raises the bar to a new level of dangerous sophistication. Although easily classified alongside Modern typefaces such as Didot and Bodoni, Otama was purposely developed with minimum reference to these two visual heavy weights. In search of something more than a mere historical revival, Otama instead draws proportional reference from popular 20th century Transitional and Garalde typefaces with visual inspiration coming from calligraphic studies. Many characteristics from Tim Donaldson’s 2010 display face Pyes Pa were directly passed on in execution of Otama — The shoelaced k, e and a being the most obvious examples of this family relation. Refined over 2 years with well over 8,000 characters over 28 styles, Otama certainly deserves its place as a comprehensive and versatile typeface in any designer’s font library.

The PARATYPE library is our latest major addition, consisting of more than 370 typefaces. In the spirit of the perestroika changes and following the collapse of the Soviet Union, a group of Russian type designers quit the state-owned Polygraphmash foundry to establish ParaType, the first, and now largest Russian digital type foundry. Quiroga Serif began in 2007 with the name Quadratta Serif. This typography was designed for continuous text, legible at medium and small sizes, with great saving of space, optimized for 6, 8, 10 and 12 points. The morphology is a mix between tradition and innovation; it has a vertical axis, thick serifs, tall x-height, light modulation and a lot of internal space between letters: key to improve legibility at small sizes. Formally, my idea was to make a serif type that had a unique color, this is visible due to the light modulation. This is also complemented with the incorporation of not common, alternative signs. Some parts of the letters that are usually curb or diagonal where made horizontal (for example: a, q, p, etc.), this makes the eye of each character to be wide and unique. The serifs (wedge type) suffered diverse variations during the process. At the begining they where thicker and ended vertically, but this caused a great deal of printing errors. And so we decided to modify them by giving them an angle to avoid visible errors in medium and small sizes. The ch, and ll ligatures where rescued because they are a part of our current spanish alphabet. The historic ligatures and stylistic alternates give different options to users who want different alternatives within a text. The accentuation signs were composed in a middle line above all signs to avoid visual shock. We also gave plenty of importance to small caps numbers, mathematical signs and currency signs so that the could interact well.

Canterbury is a late Medieval Gothic font with a rough edge. This blackletter face is available with four different types of Capital initial letters or combined into one Opentype Pro font with all variations plus historic ligatures, alternates and even a few ornaments.

Brandold is based on the repetition of one shape, the equilateral triangle. Using these triangles as pixels I built a medieval-like font that looks new, but follows an old aesthetic. I chose to make this font because I hadn’t seen anything similar.
