Before the Great War, there were great posters. Posters of elegance and grandeur. Posters calling people to the pleasures of sunny southern France and to the perfections of northern Italy’s dolce vita. Le Havre, based on a poster by AM Cassandre, was one of my first typefaces that took inspiration from this genre. Now, the golden memories of years past are the inspiration for insigne design’s new Gineso Titling as well. The main inspiration is from Art Nouveau which flourished in Europe at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. This design included furniture (Majorelle, Lalique) and architecture (Victor Horta, Henry Van de Velde, Gaudi, Alfons Mucha). But Hector Guimard remains the favorite for all aspects of its art and, of course, its typefaces used on the Parisian Metropolitan posters. In particular, the various kerning of the various letters he used to make the poster a whole design from singular designs, leading to numerous variations. As a designer, I initially worked a first version, called Metro New One, which is more geometric and traditional. This design "Two" has more flexible shapes and long vertical hooks. It can be used to enhance specific parts in letters and books in the context of Art, specially Art Nouveau and Art Deco of course, posters of any kind.

Knoedel is a display typeface with three front-weights: light, regular and bold. Although a conjunction of different styles were a reference during the design process; the art deco style left a more noticeable influence in the final design. Knoedel, also has clear references to geometric and slab serif fonts. The design is intended to be applied on headlines or short text fragments. Knödel (Knoedel) is a traditional dish from Austria and the southeast of Germany; made of dumplings of different ingredients usually boiled in salted water. It is not high-end cuisine but still, it accomplishes its aim of soothing hunger.

Frau Becker is a very dynamic and readable handwriting script that looks great in text sizes. It is a self-confident, expressive and strong character design. How old is Frau Becker? Is she an insurance agent, a surgeon or a designer? We do not know exactly but one thing is for sure: she can be found at any place where special, high-end design in conjunction with a reliable typographic basis is demanded, e.g. for posters, books, ad campaigns or magazines. Frau Becker is different from all other classical scripts – it is outstanding! Due its excellent readability, it is a precious and exceptional text font with styles as regular, bold, and Headline (bold condensed). DUAL is a full width sans-serif typeface with an experimental side. Its straight lines and 90 degree angles give it a very geometric feel without hindering its legibility. It’s now available in 6 weights, ranging from 100 to 600. The idea behind DUAL has been brewing for quite some time, and though there has been many “experimental” released in the past, it does have its unique features. For starters, it is a fully usable and legible font in its original state. Also, its 251 alternate glyphs and 10 stylistic sets are, of course, its main attraction making DUAL a very versatile typeface for any user, from the casual designer to the hardcore artist. Alta Mesa is a revival of an old type design from the 1800's that was sold by most of the type foundries in the US and Europe of that time period so it is difficult to know the foundry of origin. New with this version are the fill fonts and plain styles, the fill fonts may be used as stand alone fonts, however the letter spacing is much wider, the plain versions are recommended if you desire a solid black weight. The regular Fill font is in registration with the Regular and Open versions while the Fill L font is in registration with the L and Open L versions. This was a very charming font in its time which was heavily used on old billheads and letterheads. We're pleased to bring this type design, which hasn't been used for over 100 years, into the digital world today.

This font is mainly inspired from the engraved characters of a German Map depicting Germany's roads and parts of surrounding lands, edited in Berlin probably in the end of 1700's. The engraver was Carl Jaeck or Jaek (1763-1808). The Map was bought by the French napoleonic general Louis Pierre Delosme (1768-1828) probably during the Napolenic campaign against Germany, circa 1805 or at least 1806, his sole staying in Germany. The font (with two styles, Normal and Italic)is containing standard ligatures and a few alternative characters. Located in the Valencian Community, Spain, Manises is very famous for its pottery. In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, Manises was the most important production center for Spanish-Moresca ceramics, which was exported throughout Europe. At the beginning of the 16th century, Manises tiles were very commercially successful, especially of the heraldic type. Much appreciated by the Aragonese crown, Manises ceramics was also exported to France, Italy, and especially to Naples. As a big fan of Paterna and Manises ceramics, Naples influenced other Italian courts. Calixto III and Alejandro VI continuously commissioned Valencian pieces and tiles for the halls of the Vatican. The export also extended to Sicily, Venice, Turkey, Cyprus and even Flanders and the Baltic countries. The palaces of all the courts of Europe were enriched with this art. Many painters reproduced it in his paintings. It can be seen in the work of Hubert and Jan Van Eyck, and in the central panel of a triptych by Hugo Van der Goes (Uffizi Gallery, Florence). In this city there are also some frescoes by Domenico Ghirlandaio in which the Arabic-Valencian earthenware appears. Manises font is inspired by a text written on a 16th century tile, but adapting it to our times and giving it a very modern air. It is characterised by being able to combine uppercase and lowercase letters in a conventional manner, or use only capitals, or only lowercase letters, or, a random combination of both.
