Figaro is a very condensed slab serif design of the kind associated with nineteenth century advertising. Treves Sans is a scratchy, messy, hand written display font. It has the look of charcoal or a brass rubbing, reversed in lighter tones it looks like chalk. Many fonts have carried this name. Ours goes back to just before 1900 in France. This general style had considerable popularity among job printers all over Europe. We have even seen it used for name imprints on medical school diplomas, which seems a bit grotesk. Surely you can do something better with it.

In 2006 the art director of Emotion, a women’s psychology magazine, asked me to design a copy typeface for them. Before I actually got the job I started to work on a serif. I wanted it to be feminine but still clear and modern. On one hand there are the floral round elements and on the other hand the angular serifs. In the composition I wanted the two extremes to work together. All the other elements had to be harmonized. The proportions needed to match the magazine’s requirements. The ascenders and descenders are short enough to work in narrow columns but long enough to work in small sizes. As you can imagine, the emotion-job never happened. In copy you should not get heavier than Heavy. Extrabold and Ultrabold work best in display.

Camelia is an demi–slab display type family with reversed strokes to achieve an unexpected look and rythm. Was designed and optimized for use in large sizes. It is inspired by the geometric typefaces of the 1920s and the egyptiennes of the 1930s. An emphasis on circular and rectangular shape give it the identity.

“Grendel Regular” Evolved out of a hand lettering piece I designed for a record album (Royal Crescent Mob). Inspired by old gothic forms, my intention was to create a playful letter form that could be used in an antique as well as a modern context such as food product packaging or fun video projects, etc.

I realized I didn't have that many serif fonts, so I started sketching and came up with John Brown. John Brown is named after the sheriff in the Bob Marley song 'I Shot The Sheriff'. It is an all caps font, but upper and lower case can be freely interchanged for that great 'natural' look.

FatSally is written with a broad felt-tip marker, scanned and finished by hand on screen, taking care to emphasize the typical "marker" feeling.

Created for captions and similar serif situations where small type is required, Freight Micro is amazingly illustrative for large type too. This half-wedge, half-slab design provides the firmest of foundations to build your design on. The abruptness of the sharply carved italics take emphasis to a higher form. Freight Micro is an exercise in whispering very loudly.

Sasparillo is an "extreme" Tuscan face, with reversed emphasis, by which we mean the horizontals are far heavier than the verticals. Saspirillo Fizz has been put through our (not quite) patented "fizzing" process, in order to give it that weathered look of heavily used type. Corvone is a heavy bullnosed display family, inspired by the post war era's ideas of modernity. Two faces are offered, plain—a solid black face, and regular—which employs a three-dimensional pipeline effect to add real emphasis. Eckhardt Headline JNL is a bold, condensed sans serif font. This is part of a series of typefaces popular with the sign trade. Named in honor of the late Albert Eckhardt, Jr. - a talented sign writer and a good friend of type designer Jeff Levine - it is available in both regular and "slant" for extra emphasis.

Unio is a fresh new friendly typeface with a little calligraphic touch - this gives Unio a very pleasing rhythm. One of the key features of Unio is its emphasis on legibility. Several ligatures are also included. It is pretty versatile in its application including advertising, packaging and logotypes. Unio is available in Opentype for Mac and Windows - Enjoy!

Because of the geometric basis of its forms, Memphis is often thought of as a font for technical fields, making a rational, purposeful impression. This emphasis on objectivity is well-suited to technical texts, but Memphis is appropriate for any text which should exhibit a clear, neutral character. Some weights are available as soft rounded versions.
