Barnsley Gothic is a condensed sans serif font family. It was designed by Steve Jackaman (ITF) in 2017. It was developed alongside its sister font family, Steelplate Gothic Pro, and includes support for Latin 1 and Central/Eastern European languages. The family is named after the town of Barnsley, a coal mining town in Yorkshire, England. In 1960, there were roughly seventy collieries within a fifteen-mile radius of Barnsley town center, however the last of these closed in 1994. Barnsley Gothic has a straightforward, industrious, no-nonsense feel, much like the town it shares a name with. Argyle Rough was originally developed for a packaging campaign in the late 80s in my studio and sat around in various stages of completion until I decided to autotrace my original drawings. I liked the quirky roughness and decided that it did not detract from the charm of the original, in fact it improved it and saved me a whole lot of work. The original campaign called for a few additional alternate characters for use at either end and double in the middle of words, ee, ff, ll, ss etc and a stylized Th, always useful. Pasquinade is a blackletter/roman hybrid. The general look, feel and graphical styling of Pasquinade is that of a blackletter font, however, the underlying letter construction is of a traditional serifed roman. This produces a font with that familiar 'gothic' feel but has the inherent legibility of a roman, due, in part, to the discrete openness of the characters. The presence of roman serifs also lends to this legibility without detracting from the blackletter appearence because of their particular construction. When used in a text setting the font produces an eminently readable, even texture. However, it is when used as a titling font, that the letters reveal themselves to have a contemporary, geometrically calligraphic, blackletter appearance that makes it suitable for any and all uses.

When I started working on this font, I had the radio on. Ed Sheeran was singing his song ‘Castle On The Hill’ and when I looked at this new font of mine, I couldn’t help but notice it had a bit of a medieval look. So I named it Castle On The Hill. COTH is a very lively, messy handpainted serif. It was made with a Japanese brush pen. I actually had a different look in mind, but this is what came out of the pen and I quite liked its looks. It is especially useful for children’s book covers, apps and posters, but be my guest and use it as you like. All it needs is a designers’ touch, a nice tune and a sunset.

There's something satisfying about tweaking to perfection a typeface based on the particular style of lettering applied to a particular kind of paper by a particular human hand. One day, in pursuit of this curious sense of satisfaction, I sat down with a porous pad of lined note paper and printed out the alphabet with a ballpoint pen. I found particularly interesting the bulbous ends of the strokes where the ink soaked in. I couldn't help myself: I drew out the rest of the character set, scanned, hand-traced, and -- as with all 3IP font designs -- manipulated every glyph to an obsessive degree. Named it Cedar Street, after a favorite address of mine. Full release has a single medium weight with a thorough character set.

With a very bold, nearly monoline construction and squared serifs as thick as the main stroke, this type surpassed even the fat face style in blackness, it was popularised by the advent of handbills and early advertising posters, which needed bold type styles to project commercial messages from a distance. A sign-writer friend of mine theorises that the Egyptian style originated with the North African campaigns (hence Egyptian) of Napoleon Bonaparte, and the type historian Ruari McLean also suggests that the Egyptian style originated with signwriters 'block' letters, just like the prototypical (and contemporary) sans serif of Caslon IV." This is a deco-style text OpenType Pro font loosely based on Koch's Locarno as seen in KochAltschrift a recent free German tribute to Koch's work. I was familiar with Meek's Letraset presstype version called Locarno, but I never liked the proportions used by either Meeks or Koch. So I radically revised ascender, descender, and x-height to make them more usable and brought the shapes within my sense of design. Mine is probably closer to Meeks than Koch, but hopefully it is a tribute to both. Astaire looks much more modern and it is much more usable. I added oldstyle figures, small cap figures, small caps, several ligatures, and more. There are an italic, bold, and bold italic also in this family

After researching the type styles contemporary graphic designers have been using over the past few years, I noticed a consistent use of Copperplate Gothic, and its derivative designs, for various corporate advertising campaigns. That level of usage gave me the inspiration to design a display font possessing subtle characteristics of Copperplate Gothic, and various Latin Condensed designs. The font I ended up designing was semi-condensed, with more contrast between thicks and thins than in Copperplate. Baltra also has a subtle flair in its otherwise traditional lowercase, while possessing a larger than average lowercase x-height. Copperplate Gothic, on the other hand, has minimal contrast and uses small capitals for its lowercase. After examining extensive type specimens from wood type, metal type, phototype and digital type, I was not able to find a single design possessing a majority of Baltra's characteristics. Consequently, I consider Baltra to be a truly unique design, sharing with Copperplate Gothic only its flairs on stems, and having only subtle characteristics in common with traditional Latin designs.

Recta was one of Aldo Novarese’s earliest contributions to the massive surge of the European sans serif genre that was booming in the middle of the 20th century. Initially published just one year after Neue Haas Grotesk came out of Switzerland and Univers out of France, and at a time when Akzidenz Grotesk and DIN were riding high in Germany and Gill Sans was making waves in Great Britain, it was intended to compete with all of those foundry faces, and later came to be known as the “Italian Helvetica”. It maintains traditional simplicity as its high point of functionality, while showing minimal infusion of humanistic traits. It shows that the construct of the grotesk does not have to be rigid, and can indeed have a touch of Italian flair. While the original Recta family lacked a proper suite of weights and widths, this digital version comes in five weights, corresponding italics, four condensed fonts, and small caps in four weights. Bramante™ is an original display font by LetterPerfect Fonts, designed by Garrett Boge in 2020. It is modeled after a fifteenth-century inscription in the church of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere, Rome. The name is a tribute to the pre-eminent Renaissance architect Donato Bramante, whose Tempietto (1502, San Pietro in Montorio) marked the beginning of the High Renaissance in Rome. In 1503 he was named lead architect for the new St. Peter's Basilica, which was completed by Michelangelo, Maderno and Bernini a century later. Based on the pervasive use of Adobe Trajan as a classical-inspired titling face, LetterPerfect offers this Renaissance revival of imperial Roman capitals as an alternative with additional refinement and personality. (The full size capitals are complemented with small capitals in the lowercase positions.)

Designed for ParaType in 1999-2004 by Gennady Fridman. The Pushkin type family is based on the autographs of Alexander Pushkin, the eminent Russian poet (1799-1837). Alternative letters typical for Pushkin's hand are included. There are several variants of Pushkin's hand. Pushkin Script in 2 styles was based on the manuscripts of 1815 and covers Western and Russian character sets. Pushkin One was developed on the basis of thoroughly written documents. Pushkin Two imitates small but nevertheless rather legible hand. Pushkin Three in 2 weights was created on the basis of the autographs distinguished by sprawling hand. Pushkin One, Two and Three series covers just the Russian character set. This set of Russian fonts was amended by Pushkin French font that is based on French writings and covers Western character set.

ITC Photoplay is another gem from Nick Curtis. Unearthed from the 1927 edition of Samuel Welo's Studio Handbook for Artists and Advertisers, the design's original suggested use was for title and caption cards for silent movies. A monoweight design that bridges the gap between turn-of-the-century decorative type and Art Deco, ITC Photoplay is both casual and stylish. And, yes, the cap S" is supposed to look that that. To expand this already handy typeface's versatility, a Black weight has been added to the original design. Curtis has also created an array of alternate characters, a couple of conjunctions, and a handful of "bishop's fingers" to help make your point.
