The typeface was baptized as "Caldense" in order to honor the city of Caldas da Rainha, a small city in Portugal, the typography's birth place. Most of the lettering on a piece of sheet music for a song from the 1921 George M. Butterworth was designed to reflect the dying, degraded and worn, hand painted signs I had seen around the old Butterworth ferry terminal in Penang Malaysia. I plan for Butterworth to be the first of many Malaysia inspired typefaces.
