Modesto is a loose-knit family based on a signpainters lettering style popular in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. It evolved from the lettering I used for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Logo. The Modesto family was not planned. It just happened, a few fonts at a time over about fifteen years. Momotarō is a Japanese legend about a boy who came to earth inside a giant peach. He was found by a childless woman and grew up to be a hero. I'm in a Japanese mood - mainly because lately I have been working with brushes and ink a lot. Momotaro font is a very detailed brush font. It doesn't come with a hero inside a giant peach, but it does give your design work that extra oomph, ahh and wow.

No, no fantastic story about how I came up with the name for this font. It was a Sunday when I thought up Sunday Thinker. It seemed like the right name and it wasn’t taken yet, so there you have it! Patterned after cheap neon signage, this face has class, all of it low. Kuroneko in Japanese means ‘ Black Cat’. I was working on a Japan itinerary for a friend and I told him about the luggage forwarding service by a company with a black cat in its logo. Wait: Black Cat? What’s that in Japanese? Cool name for a font! Kuroneko font will not forward your luggage, nor was it made in Japan. But it IS a very versatile font family - even if you’re more of a dog person.

Rivets is a result of my fascination with the beauty I find in utilitarian industrial objects like the decorative ironwork in Grand Central terminal and the eloquent construction details of the urban infrastructure of the 19th and early 20th century. It began as die-raised typography for a magazine cover, developed further for a book about mid-20th century American manufacturing and evolved into a complete font plus four individual components suitable for producing multiple color variations.

Frederic Goudy designed National Old Style Roman in 1916. It is loosely based on a logo he lettered for the National Biscuit Company in 1901. Steve Matteson expanded on Goudy’s original by designing a bold, semibold and matching italics. Spotted for sale online, a partial set of antique tin stencils from France had a distinctively handmade look about them. Many of the characters were inconsistently wider than others, some characters were missing and one was damaged. Despite the obvious flaws, the image of these stencils served as the model for a digital font revival once the characters took on a more uniform appearance. The name of the font is from the hilarious movie "21 Jump Street" - and that is where the similarity ends. While the movie is quite funny, it is also super goofy! I can't say the same about the font, because terms like organic and organic comes to my mind. Strange, yes! And I have really no good reason for this naming, other that its an odd way to tribute this one of my all time favourite comic movies! :)

The sister fonts Andron 2 English and Andron 2 Deutsch provide a groundbreaking new possibility to render literature text bodies in a sophisticated traditional and yet modern way of type. In German typographic history there has once been a long-lasting struggle called the Frakturstreit (the blackletter quarrel). It was about wether German text ought to be composed in blackletter or rather in Roman type, a question upon which even Goethe, Schiller and other period celebrities got grey over time. However, blackletter type remained alive and has just recently seen an astonishing renaissance. This is not about a blackletter revisionism or some ‘mixture’ concept arguably bridging the gap between either worlds.
