Mind Boggle was made during the renovation of our fixer upper farm house. We had to demolish an old annexe (because it was unsafe) and it caused us some stress, as one wrong movement of the excavator would mean at least a partial collapse of our home… Luckily the driver was a pro and it was mind boggling to see what he could do with a huge machine like that. Mind Boggling? Ah! Check! Mind Boggle is a handmade, all caps, headline font. It is a bit wobbly in places, but it comes with loads of character. The dotty style comes with thousands of hand made dots. They’re not perfect, they’re not even round, but they are unique!

Bourton Text is a modern sans-serif typeface family perfect for both text type settings and display purposes. While it’s not a layering type family like its brother, Bourton, it come packed with features, extras and over 2,000 characters that make it stand on its own. HISTORY Bourton Text is a new take of the Bourton family that was one of the best-selling and favorite fonts of 2016. After countless requests for lowercase alphabet, or suggestions for a font pairing with Bourton, this new text setting family is based on the original shapes of Bourton. DESIGN & CREATION In taking Bourton Base was the starting point as they narrowest width and boldest weight. From there, lowercase shapes were designed that matched the aesthetic and details of the popular capitals. As Bourton was a heavy display font, some small tweaks were done to make it more fitting for smaller text settings, including reducing the letter-spacing and reworking some counters. Some areas needed complete reconstruction, such as the figures. The design of those began anew with a style that worked with the capitals and lowercase but also as a standalone set. Currency shapes were updated to match the numerals. Punctuation was also reimagined to work better in smaller type settings. Diacritics and extended language support was also updated and expanded to include full Latin plus language support for 219 latin based language spoken in 212 countries. Once the basic alphabet for Bourton Text Bold Narrow was formed, the font was expanded in both weight and width. Taking the weight from Bold down to Hairline, it allowed for more range in use. The typeface needed to be expanded in order to reach better as a book weight and width, in addition to a regular width, a wider version was create as well. FEATURES Once the extremes were set in place, small capital forms were designed for text and display purposes. These also allow for nested capital letters, lifted small caps and other display features offered in the typeface. One of the most popular fonts in the Bourton layering font family is Bourton Line. This led to an experimentation with rounded Bourton Text completely and thus a complete set of duplicated characters with rounded terminals. By using the Opentype Panel, a rounded font is a single click away. Every feature has been carefully thought out and updated across the entire font. In total, Bourton boasts over 2,300 glyphs, 42 font files with 3 widths and 7 weights in upright and italic.

Steam combines the spirit of the old-fashioned wood type with modern flavours. Its distinctive reversed high contrast and extremely bold serifs make it impossible to stay unnoticed. Birka is the first typeface I designed from scratch. It took a whole year of my weekend and evening hours and is the typeface that teached me everything I know about type design. It is easy too see that I had Garamond in mind when drawing it. Birka is beautiful" was the comment of the well known Swedish designer Bo Berndal when he first saw it. That comment gave me the courage to design more and more typefaces. In a Danish article about Scandinavian type design, Birka was taken as example of a typical Swedishness in typography. I am not sure what the writer had in mind, but it surely sounded well. Birka has its name from the ancient Viking town Birka, whose remains are found not far away from Stockholm. Birka was released in 1992."

Back in 2017, I was working on a cutout font that I originally wanted to call Scissor Madness. In the end, I named it Cut Along and it was quite a popular font for a while. This week I decided to clean up my fonts folder a bit (as I usually have tons of unfinished fonts lurking in there) and I found a file named Scissor Madness. It was the original try-out for Cut Along. It contained a couple of nice glyphs that I never used, so I started playing around with them and after a day, I had a whole new font! So, in short, Scissor Madness was partly cut out by hand, partly computer made, but it is 100% fun to use! Scissor Madness comes with a bunch of very cute discretionary ligatures.

DIN has always been the typeface you root for—the one you wanted to use but just couldn’t bring yourself to because it was limited in its range of weights and widths, rendering it less useful than it could be. The century-old design has proven to be timeless, but modern use cases demanded an update, which resulted in DIN Next—a versatile sans serif family that will never go out of style. This classic design turned modern must-have includes seven weights that range from light to black, each of which has a complementary italic and condensed counterpart. The family also included four rounded designs, stretching the original concept’s range and core usability. DIN Next also boasts a suite of small capitals, old style figures, subscript, superscript and several alternate characters. A quintessential 20th-century design, its predecessor DIN was based on geometric shapes and was intended for use on traffic signs and technical documentation. Akira Kobayashi’s update made slight changes to the design, rounding the formerly squared-off corner angles to humanize the family. Rooted in over 100-years of history, it’s safe to say that there will always be a demand for the DIN design, and thanks to DIN Next, now it’s as usable as it is desired. Youthful Fontsmith received a brief to develop a font that would form part of the broadcast identity for the UK’s first digital Freeview channel – E4. It needed to work seamlessly in text and display, both in print and on-screen, and please the eye of the target audience, 18-34-year-olds. So, young, fresh and informal. No problem. Except for one thing: the timing. Daughter As he worked on FS Maja, Jason Smith was occupied by another imminent deadline: the birth of his third child. The pressure was mounting, but rather than let it get to him, Jason embraced the challenge and made light of the tension, fashioning a bright, bubbly, entertaining type with a personality made for memorable headlines. Beautifully random FS Maja’s soft, rounded shapes and assured, fluent lines encompass lots of notable features that contribute to its warm, fun-loving personality, including: a very large x-height; a short, rounded serif to allow for close spacing and give texture to body text; a slight convexity, or bulge, in the stroke terminals; a calligraphic fluidity in the entry to the down-stroke of most lowercase letters; open, generous curves, especially in the “B”, “P” and “R”; and a “w” made of two “u”s.

Alex Kaczun, originally designed BottleKaps for Linotype-Hell, in 1992, as a QuickDraw GX multi-master font series. A few new GX applications, like 'Unicorn', where able to utilize these unique fonts. The GX application allowed the user to adjust weight and proportions, on the fly, including glyph substitution for small capitals, old style figures, swash and alternate endings. The technology was never successfully deployed by Apple, so the individual fonts, 21 styles and variations in all, where sold in the Linotype Font Library as separate Truetype fonts up until 1998. Unfortunately, the fonts collected dust for many years thereafter, but now have been reworked and rejuvenated by Alex in OpenType format for both Mac and PC. Heft is a heavy slab serif that packs a powerful punch. Digitalis was created from a desire to make an original, æsthetically pleasing rounded typeface using the minimum of strokes. Each character has been reduced to only the most essential elements. Due to the contrast between the thick and thin strokes Digitalis is surprisingly legible when set as text.

Karin's free reinterpretation of the early Renaissance Lombardic tradition, in two different versions. In the upper case the fill is blacker and has a straight pattern with diamond elements; in the lower case the fill is thinner with more white space and has a wavy pattern with rounded elements.

Gusset is a simple modular font. It was created for headlines and posters. It creates a dense and interesting texture in the text set. Simple rounded curves contrast with "wedges". Gusset supportsBasic Latin, Cyrillic and more than 100 languages all together. The font was designed by Viktor Pesotsky.

Multicross font was designed by Dmitry Greshnev in 2003-2004 and is licensed by ParaType. Mesh creates the basic structure for this font. Multicross has Regular and Rounded styles. For use in advertising and display typography. Can be used as a screen font with anti-aliasing function switched off.

Interweave is a square display face with rounded corners, inspired by beefy fonts from the 60s and 70s such as Bullion and Deutsch Black. An alternating criss-cross effect is borrowed from Hunyady Gothic, the opposing lowercase a, e and s providing a basket weave or parquet floor appearance.

Landry Gothic is inspired by a wood type alphabet by an unknown designer. It was digitized in order to make prop signage for movies and television. Its imperfect lines and rounded corners are meant to capture the feeling of real wood or metal type that's worn from use.

PT Adonis™ was designed by Natalia Vasilyeva and licensed by ParaType in 2002. An original typeface, its characters have slightly oblong proportions, with rounded serifs and generally soft letterforms. The face is both space-saving and quite legible in small sizes.
