Grava is Neil Summerour’s injection of warmth within the geometric sans font category. Introducing our new modern signature font "Agatha Bergman". We would say that "Agatha Bergman" is a result of our latest experiment since a few new things have been done: "Agatha Bergman" is a voguish sophisticated signature-style script with three different uppercase alternatives for each letter and a unique short swash for each lowercase letter. We usually used to make long and wavy swashes, however, that's not the case this time. Also, the stylistic alternates were coded as both ligatures and swashes so that turning on the “Standard ligatures” was enough to access them. The font includes 152 fancy standard ligatures and 6 discretionary ligatures, and while working on them we tried to consider those letter combinations that are often met in surnames, e.g. -ovsky.

The concept of Biscotti rised from a personal research into a system of styles that we commonly consider “vintage”. One above all, the Victorian typography that has been rediscovered and widely re-studied during the 70s. Today, thanks to the technology innovation in digital typography fields, Biscotti is certainly an interesting subject which expresses an appassionate and nostalgic homage to a vintage font, seen from the perspective of a technical inspiration. Biscotti is composed of two styles: the “default” and the alternative one. The first is of course more conservative and formal, while the alternative formally chooses a change of the diagonal lines into curves, so it creates a much more friendlier reading. Biscotti consists of 4 styles that can be combined by layers in order to form different ways of reading. This renewed effect increases exponentially the potential use range of this typography. In thinking about a way to express the character of this script, it occurred to me that the splitting of the main downstrokes in the caps is almost like when knife cuts into butter. Picture a butter knife that slices into butter, slowly wedging the cut wider so that when it is pulled back, the remaining shape would resemble the main downstroke of any capital letter. The lowercase characters have an almost roundhand-like character but with a slightly more formal presence. Full of texture and regal personality, Bell Martellus was derived from a book published in 1475 by Henricus Martellus entitled “Liber Insularum.” The writing style is based on the Carolingian Script created by the Emperor Charlemagne and his scribe, Alquin of York, in the 9th century A.D. This old world lettering comes with new world OpenType capabilities, including swash caps and small caps. The James Ford Bell Library at the University of Minnesota commissioned Bill Moran to develop this font as a means of introducing their amazing collection of rare books, maps and manuscripts to a wider audience. This font was inspired from the so called "Insular Style" Latin script used in Celtic monasteries (Ireland, Scotland—with the well known Book of Kells—and England) from the late 6th to 9th, before the Carolingian "Caroline" (look at our 825 Karolus). It was a regular script, rounded, written slowly, used mainly for specially meticulous books, with a very few ligatures. Mr Orange is a typeface based on our handwritten letters which we used in some of our books H.O.U.S.E, D.E.S.I.G.N and Who Eats Whom. It has up to three alternate glyphs for each character, even for every diacritic letter. We do use our fonts in our books so we know that switching alternate glyphs can be a pain in the ass. Thats why we’ve created a very cool Contextual Alternates feature. It automatically sets alternate glyphs depending on frequency of appearance of the same character. The script doesn’t throw random glyphs. It’s checks if lets say letter “A” appears more then once in a sequence of characters. For example in the word “ANAKONDA”, the third “A” and the second “N” would be changed to glyphs from first stylistic set, the second “A” would also be changed but to glyph from second stylistic set. We’ve designed different rules for basic characters and different for diacritics and punctation. It really works great but of course you can always fine tune it by hand. This option has one obvious advantage for web fonts. Browsers that support OpenType calt feature will be able to display alternate characters. And since you can’t put by hand alternate glyphs on your website this is the only way to use them.
