TELEPATH Telepath by Coniglio Type, first appeared in 1998. It is now in opentype .otf as of 2021. Telepath is a master sampling of a Royal office typewriter of industrial strength provided by the Miller Furniture store, of Dunkirk, New York. It had a baseline set of numbers to make accounting practices easy and line up nicely on the statements. (No gentile old fashioned numerical ascenders and descenders.) Yet, for a a rather old and stolid machine, it was very luxurious and built to definitely take the test of time. Cudo's for Royal Typewriter Company, is all I can say. The 1913 sheet music for "There's A Girl in the Heart of Maryland (with a Heart That Belongs to Me)" may have had no shortage of words in the title - fifteen to be exact, but it also offered some nice hand lettering in the Art Nouveau style. Maryland JNL is a condensed typeface with an unusual twist. The "S" and "G" both have spurs on them, which is reminiscent of the preceding Victorian period and the popular spurred Tuscan alphabets of the time.

Slik is a type family developed with packaging in mind. It started as one word in the boldest weight while working on an update of the Swedish liquorice brand »Läkerol« , a rejected proposal with the logotype in all upper case letters. So this is my tribute to Piggy who got killed by that falling plastic rock in the movie. Whichit contains typefaces designed with a hexagonal motif. The opposite sides of the hexagon are parallel but two of them are longer than the other four. It does not have reflective symmetry so flipping it over a vertical line returns a different appearance. One of these appearances is the basis for WhichIt and the other for WhichItTwo. Each has three weights and each weight has an italic style. The result is a quirky sans-serif family of a dozen faces.

Semi-formal and eye-catching elegance is the name of the game, says Aguafina Script, Koziupa and Paul’s latest creation. Graceful, but not too casual. Bulletin Script was a style offered by several American wood type manufacturers in the late 19th Century. It may actually be one of the most iconic styles of the late 1960 Psychedelic era when Victorian revival was in full swing. The style known as "Bulletin Script No. 2” varies from the more commonly seen Bulletin in that its bottom strokes have a concave swash to them rather than rounded bulbous bottom terminals. This new digitization features over 300 glyphs including Central European characters.

Based on the handwriting of the eminent Dutch typographer Alexander Verberne, Julius de Goede's Xander typeface manages to be both sophisticated and whimsical. This monoline connecting script dances across the page with the grace of a ballerina. An accomplished graphic designer and writer of more than 20 books on calligraphy, de Goede's lettering skills are evident in this careful translation of casual handwriting into a lighthearted, affable typeface family. Like a warm breeze on a spring day, Xander is fresh and welcome.

Two Cents Plain JNL is a simple sans design for titling, sign work, display ads and so forth. The name is derived from the way folks in the Northeast used to ask for a glass of seltzer water at restaurants and soda fountains decades ago: "Give me a two cents plain." It was always cheaper to order plain seltzer than to have flavored syrup added, and this was especially true in the years during the Great Depression when every penny made a difference.

Tudor Perpendicular is Greater Albion's seasonal Black letter release (not that we rule out the possibility of non-seasonal ones...) for 2012. As the name suggests, it is a design which emphasises, and yes, exaggerates for effect, the perpendicular up and down nature of Black Letter typefaces. There's no particular historical basis for this one - straight out of our own minds, just as a lot of Black letter 'revivals' have been over the years. Come and visit 'Ye Olde' world today...

Pelle Piano is the stage name for Per Ellstrom, a musician in Stockholm with an interest in irregular and informal lettering. ITC Coolman was inspired by lettering styles of the 1950s. “I have a passion for old '50s type lettering,” says Piano, “as seen on posters from B-movies and pocketbooks and cartoons.” Although ITC Coolman is not a script face, its caps work best with the lowercase, rather than together. The funky, bouncy look of Coolman cries out for beach movies.

The original superellipse typefaces coincided with the emergence of the CRT (cathode ray tube) TV screen, but there is more than this visual analogy of high-tech in play, as the pumped up angularity of the curved components of the genre also informs the quality of set text. In particular, due to the straightness of the round letters’ side stems, there is a neat modularity of vertical letter spacing, which denotes authority, with precision, complementing the tautness of the face’s curves.

The character of Sopran is expressed by long serifs that replace traditional drops. Contrast is distributed from monolinear in hairline and all the way to the extreme in the black style. Symbols and punctuation are drawn with monolinear strokes to give the typeface more playful typesetting. The long serifs allow for some interesting discretionary ligatures, like “fa” or “Ta”. With two stylistic sets the typeface enables different typesetting opportunities. Its characteristics should be expressed in headlines, larger texts, show posters, displays, signage etc.

Narziss is a very popular display typeface. People really love the thin hairlines and the swirls. But the basic idea is so strong that I decided to create a text version. The swirls of the display do not work in small sizes but the alternative drops do. So for each weight of Narziss Text, there is a Regular, an Italic and a Drops version. Narziss Text is ideal for fashion magazines, Jewelry or perfumes and may be used in conjunction with Narziss.
