TextTile is a system of heavy sans titling faces which can be utilized to carry a repeating chromatic pattern across words and letters. It stands apart from other chromatic faces, where layered effects typically interact only within each letter and do not carry through from one letter to another. The pattern repetition across letters of varying widths is achieved through OpenType substitution, using conditional alternates for each successive letter to allow for a seamless appearance across words, regardless of letter combinations. Though the pattern exists on a strict grid and the letters' widths and spacing must be highly regular in order to preserve the pattern repeat, the letterforms themselves are not rigid; rather, they appear organic, lively. The requirements of Middle Ages scribes who copied and produced books in monasteries were fundamentally to preserve space, due to the high cost of the writing surface. During this long period of the development of Gothic forms, many other variations of the style of black letters appear: Textur or “Gothic-antique”, another group called Rotunda preferred by Italian and Spanish scribes. In 1490, the style "Bâtarde" (according to the the French classification) began to be widely used in Germany with more rounded shapes and named Scwabacher (probably derived from the city of Schwabach, but not certified) Fractur is a more condensed and narrower form than Schwabacher. This style is attributed to Johann Neudörfer of Nuremberg, cut in 1513; it was quickly imitated, therefore a few years later became to be a German national identity that extended over the next four centuries. The shape of its characters can be considered as a fusion of Texture and Schwabacher: the lowercase actually has medium strictly vertical and half curved strokes. The first expressions of the baroque influence this writing whose appearance of movement is due to the ornaments applied to the uppercase letters and the ascending and descending features of the lowercase. Made up of sixteen individual weights and spread over three different optical sizes, Essonnes is designed to bring utility back to the Didot genre. It’s a common belief among designers that Didones don’t work for text. This wasn’t true in 1819 and it isn’t true today. Like its forbearers, Essonnes is a truly optical family—not just a study in adjusting contrast. The text and display weights have been designed from the ground up for their intended roles. This means that everything from the height of the uppercase & lowercase letters have been specifically tuned for their intended purpose. Like many typefaces, Essonnes started after falling in love with a piece of history. In this case, it was the eccentric forms of Pierre Didot’s Type and the evolution of the High contrast Didone throughout the 19th century. It was out of curiosity and love for these forms that led to the first draft of what would become Essonnes back in 2011. These unique situations—screens, modern printing methods, the previous 200 years of typographic innovation since the original design, my own life experiences—have led to a typeface that, while based on history, is not stuck in it.

Clairveaux is based on samples of an ornate 12th century calligraphic style. It has some interesting features, including small caps which combine some characteristics of both traditional upper and lower cae character forms. It's ornate enough to look decorative, but not overwhelmingly complex, and looks remarkably attractive when used for titles in a large size.

Signorina is a funny font (a "funnty"?) not to be taken so seriously. It reminds me of slab serif designs, but jelly-stuffed instead of having wood. This font also works very well on small sizes because of it's tall x height. You can use this kind of font on both text and titles.

Red began as an experiment, and turned into a larger project. Most super-black type designs are constructed of extremely simple and geometric elements. Most of them do not include a lowercase alphabet. Red is designed to be simultaneously more human, as black as possible, and as readable as possible. VIew the full specimen here.

March may be a good time to use this typeface. PattyDay is a caps-only typeface in which the letters are decorated with shamrocks or clovers. Some but not all of the lower-case letters are different from the upper-case letters. If you want a version of this face without the shamrocks, try Ingone.

Gikit is a very raw and quirky typeface structured according to a strict grid. The design is massive, with very little curve (just the dots and a few punctuation marks). A really stand out characteristic is Gikit’s accents that crush the forms. The type is drawn with 2 styles, for 2 uses: Tittle or Text.

Budrick BB is a slick, clean body copy font family that's just a bit rounded. It is available in four weights: Regular, Italic, Bold, and Bold Italic. (And those Italics have some slightly different letter forms than the plain versions!) To top it all off, Budrick BB has a hefty collection of European characters.

Statendam is an all caps Art Deco font. It reminds me of the bold lettering used for cruise ship posters from the interbellum, especially those used for the Holland America Line (HAL) ads. It is not a recreation of a particular typeface; merely my salute to a bygone era. Statendam comes with all diacritics.

When the conditions are met, a heart is attached to the capital letter. It feels soft and lovely. It goes well with wedding cards, invitations, elegant brochures, web images, and promotional materials. If you do not apply the open type feature, the letters without hearts are applied, so you can use it in two moods.

CompassOne was a design I began in 1990 or so, but did not bother to finish until five years later. Its name comes from the fact that all the letters could have been drawn with a compass (which draws circles) and a straight edge. The typeface Demotte was a further development of this design idea.

Ataxia was designed to be used in long texts such as books and magazines. The font has the weights regular, bold, italic and bold italic as well as ligatures, small caps, oldstyle numbers and support for many languages (unfortunately not German: ß is missing, lower quotes ‚wrong‘ and „missing“), with more than 500 glyphs.

Upperclass was a font I created back in 1995. I had a brainstorm about the uppercase letter “A”. I noticed that the cross bar for the letter A is always toward the bottom, what if I moved it toward the top. The result is a unique font, a great addition to your font collection.

Hamilton is a tall, bold display font developed from hand lettering by Samuel Welo. It embodies elements of art nouveau poster lettering and turn-of-the-century advertising design. Malagua is a rough, hand-drawn font in the style of 18th century handwriting. It's designed to evoke an era of pirates, highwaymen and desperate conspiratorial notes written with a crude pen in a hand shaking from too much rum. Guglia is an extra textura typeface ispired by the gothic architecture shapes and in particular to his vertical extremization based on a rigid scheme, like the calligraphy of that period. A spire (Guglia in italian) is a tapering conical or pyramidal structure on the top of a building, often a skyscraper or a church tower.

Despite its macabre-sounding name, Headstone Roman JNL is not a novelty font for Halloween or horror movies. Instead, it's an attractive Roman typeface based on an example provided of a guide for stonecutters to use when cutting epitaphs into tombstones. Headstone Roman JNL is available in regular, oblique, condensed and condensed oblique versions.
