Emilio is a modern serif family available in 14 styles. It's an elegant typeface with friendly and warm personality which seeks a balance between traditional and modern. Emilio is inspired by the visuality of the 1980s and the typefaces that were widely used in advertising at the time, such as Times and Garamond. The ballpoint pen woman’s handwriting As the name suggests — the Iris’ Hand is a woman’s personal handwriting, written with a ballpoint pen. Iris’ Hand is an amazing font — almost indistinguishable from “real” handwriting. Thanks to the over 200 different ligatures and stylistic alternates the typeface is extremely lively and varied. The ballpoint pen has its own characteristics, which are clearly expressed in this font. The stroke is not always uniformly thick. Sometimes only a delicate, thin line is created. Often it breaks off suddenly and leaves a gap. In addition to the normal version, there is also a light and a bold version. Handwriting is sometimes written more or less slanted. So does Iris’ Hand. The normal version is only slightly slanted. But there is also an oblique version that is significantly more inclined by 20°, which makes the script appear more regular and somehow feminine. Facit is a contemporary sans serif text face. It is designed to be a highly legible and flexible font that does not draw the attention to itself. Instead of being original by itself it is the result of a careful examination of ancient as well as modern formal concepts. “It is by definition impossible to design an un-conventional typeface. Type is pure convention, this is why we can read each other’s written words”, says its designer Tim Ahrens. However, rather than generating an average, existing principles were consciously combined into a unique design solution: The word ‘Facit’, in its German version, means ‘conclusion’. The fonts are provided in OpenType format. Each font contains 720 glyphs. Technically, they follow the Adobe Pro fonts and provide the same glyph set and OpenType functionality. OpenType features include ligatures, true small capitals, superiors, inferiors, numerators and denominators. Beorcana can be classified as a serifless roman, a stressed sans, a glyphic sans, or calligraphic sans. However it is classified, Beorcana derives not only from other stressed sans designs like Lydian, Amerigo and Optima, but also utilizes classic Renaissance proportions in both Roman and Italic, which facilitate extended reading. Beorcana is available in Display, regular Text and Micro styles. Beorcana’s Text styles offer comfort and liveliness in books, dictionaries, magazines and other reading-intensive settings. The name Beorcana is a variant of the Icelandic word for the Birch tree, and the related words for the Icelandic rune. The new typeface family Vida was specifically designed for Czech Television in the framework of a competition for a new logo in summer 2006. The drawing of each letter form differs finely in its logic, which is a feature invisible at first. It is constructed on a puristic base, but it doesn't reject the natural anomalies already known from ages of experience with latin alphabet. That's why e. g. upper left section of 'n' is constructed differently from that of 'r', similarly as 'd' doesn't repeat right-bottom ending after 'u', '9' is not inverted '6'. Such details improve reading in continuous text. The behavior of all weights is consistent on CRT, plasma or LCD screens due to monolinear design; the lightest weight doesn't fade, the darkest isn't blurred, all is legible and clear in smallest sizes. Stem connections and endings were adjusted to avoid undesirable optical darkening. The goal we desired was to achieve balance appearance in both electronic and printed form.

Katsudon is a Japanese crumbed and deep fried pork cutlet, typically served on rice with egg drizzled over it. There is also a chicken variety. I have been to Japan numerous times (it is my favourite country) and each time I revelled in the great variety of foods being served in street stalls and hole-in-the-wall eateries. I especially love the grandma-and-grandpa eateries that are tucked away in alleys behind the major shopping streets. They never speak English and my Japanese is shaky (to say the least), but the food is always good and we always seem to understand each other. This year, I couldn’t travel to Japan, because of the Covid outbreak, but I can tell you that I miss Japan a lot! Katsudon is a crumbed and deep fried font. A neo-grotesk with a bit more bite, this is Schizotype Grotesk. It's not your usual grot; this is purely display typography. OCR-A was originally designed in 1968 as a machine-readable alphabet. Its functionality was its most important element, instead of its design. Over the following decades, the typeface has become popular in the design world nevertheless. But typographically pleasing results are often hard to come by, due to the original design’s “non-design design”, as well as its undeveloped character set. In 2006, Miriam Röttgers revised and extended OCR-A, creating OCR A Tribute. OCR A Tribute is a typeface family comprising of two versions: one in which the glyphs have been proportionally-spaced, and another that is monospaced. In the monospaced version, all glyphs have the same width, like the letters in the original OCR-A font do. Both versions of OCR A Tribute contain complete character sets and expert glyphs, as well as lining and old style figures. Now you can rest easy, and finally use this classic design for display purposes and headlines!

This type crept up the sense that it was made in Eastern Europe by poorly trained urbanites from a crippled nation, or that it is the remains of a contemporary gothic (like Eckmann) stencil. The choice of what this type signifies is up to the public. Lately I like the idea of 'putting on' (in McLuhan's sense) a genre of idea that is somewhat different from my tradition's beliefs, and fitting a core category of that toward a teleological/eschatological advantage. Therefore postmodernist/apocalyptic carelessness (which I may 'put on' by using this type) is how I abstain from the cravings of immortality, or more so that wanting it is pointless. It’s stands as memento morí; that I will have to die someday. I have to become less, He must become more. Of course, Interzone may signify a classic Joy Division track from Unknown Pleasures as well as the Cold Warish ongoings of conflicted eastern European life. I considered naming this Lunik 9.

The award-winning Scala family (1990-1993) is a worldwide bestseller and has established itself as a ‘classic’ among digital fonts. It was one of the first serious digital text fonts to support small caps, ligatures and different set of numbers. To start with one personal fact: I really like to listen Rahsaan Roland Kirk. He was a multi-instrumentalist, real grandmaster and unique jazz virtuoso. The way he improvised and walked through variety of different music influences are admiring. One of things he liked is to modify instruments, so he modified soprano saxophone and got an instrument called manzello. When I was looking for good name for this typeface, it came on my mind that Manzello could be the perfect one. It has the symbolic background from the instrument and theoretically in my head, it's imagined as typeface that rely on stable classic examples, but graphically designed and modified to match modern standards. Manzello contains a dose of characteristics of display typefaces with terminals that aren't perfectly rounded, high contrast between stems and good balanced Italics with elements of fine calligraphy. It's a small font family, something what I was always looking for to have as first text solution in my web and graphic projects.

Qarmilla Font is interesting because the typeface is pleasing to the eye, clean, feminine, sensual, glamorous, simple and very easy to read, because there are many fancy letter connections. My eldest son Sam always wanted to visit Japan and he has been saving up for a ticket for years now. We should have traveled there this year, but due to the pandemic, that was impossible. We’re now trying to go next year. Sam and I did make some kind of itinerary and I told him how we were going to get around, as I have been to Japan many times. I told him about the Shinkansen trains, the cute Tram in Nagasaki and the immense subway system in Tokyo. One of the lines in Tokyo is the so-called Yamanote Circle Line, which I have used on numerous occasions. A new font name was born and it stuck to this particular font! Subway Circle is a 100% handmade font. It is rounded, slightly slanted and comes with a sunny disposition. I am sure that, when you use it, you will find your 生きがい… ;-)

The inspiration source for MFC Phonograph Monogram is a vintage monogram specimen named “Kent” showing only a CBA sample. It was a style I could find no other reference for, but was desperate to recreate this record like styling of monogram. Finally, it all comes to life in MFC Phonograph Monogram. I even threw in a little dog and phonograph icons hidden in the font as decorative icons reminicent of old Victrola records. Phonograph Monogram supports two and three letter monograms, although the two letter style break from the circular record design and creates a zulu style shield design. MFC Phonograph Monogram uses the Ligatures feature, available in most OpenType savvy applications, such as Adobe Illustrator CS (see Fig. 1). The Ligatures feature is typically enabled automatically, but you may need to confirm this in your program if you are not certain. If any second lowercase letter typed does not automatically switch to form the right side of the rounded form, you do not have Ligatures enabled.

Sneakers was a typeface that I originally drew all the way back in 2005, with a release in 2006. Its most recent iteration, Sneakers Pro was released in 2009. Since then, the idea of reworking the design has lingered in the back of my head, but I wanted to add additional flexibility and value to anything offered beyond the originals. Sneakers Max does just that and I am happy to see it released and available to everyone. Sneakers Max raises the bar in terms of functionality… incorporating all of the options found in Sneakers Pro (e.g. Small Caps and a biform/unicase located now in Titling Alternates), but it expands the character offering, improves on letter designs (everything was redrawn) and explores more flexible settings by providing 5 distinct counter widths to keep more uniform multi-line settings with mixed letter heights. Special thanks to Potch Auacherdkul for his additions to the original character set and for his engineering skills.

Alien Alphabet is inspired by the ideas of change, transformation, creative deconstruction and mutual penetration of various cultures, languages, and opposing cognitive systems, which seem to be prevalent in our 'globalized' civilization. It appears as various visual constructs -- archetypal symbolism, pieces of the world alphabets, socio-cultural icons, mathematical formulae, etc., -- broke down into pieces and were reassembled in a way that carried traces of previous meanings. However, this contradictory mutation invokes enigmatic meanings and emotions begging for further definition and interpretation. Alien Alphabet shapes arranged in linear sequential manner tend to evoke a sense of written language. The fact that a message cannot be understood does not really change its emotional appeal. Moreover, the less message can be deciphered, the more seems to be the appeal -- for it triggers our imagination. In fact, we may not want to know the actual meaning because deep inside we are afraid that this might be just another alien dry-cleaning receipt.

We used to have a composite worktop in our 'old' kitchen. It was cheap and the kitchen-guy warned us not to put any hot pans on the worktop, as it could crack due to Thermal Shock. Duh... When we installed our new kitchen, we opted for a ceramic worktop, which can handle hot pans being placed on it! Thermal Shock font is a very nice, handmade brush font. If you ever bought any brush fonts of mine, you will know that I almost always use Chinese ink and cheap brushes to create 'the look'. It is always a bit of a surprise how a Chinese ink brush font turns out: I created one the other day and it looked horrible, so it was banned.. Thermal Shock turned out to be a looker. Thermal Shock comes with one set of alternate glyphs, extensive language support (including Greek and Vietnamese) and a guarantee it won't crack in super hot designs.

This all started with a love for Jenson. I know there're hundreds of variations on that theme. But, that is where I began, several years ago. How far it came, as usual as I wandered through the vagaries of font design, is not unusual. If you've read any of my font design books, you know my design processes are quite loose and spontaneous. I wanted the general feel of a favorite old font, but softer, easier, and more comfortable. I built these on the same vertical metrics as my Librum Publishing Group. However, this family is not part of that group. I used the metrics because that shows my current taste in fonts. This family does work with the Librum group—but to be honest, I haven't experimented enough to come up with a good companion. I suspect I'll need to make another companion family. I may need make a non-modulated bold version also. But, that remains to be seen. I'm pleased with this.

Linotype Projekt was created by German type designer Andreas Koch with both a well-defined inspiration and goal.
