Impact As its name suggests, Impact, a bold sans serif, is designed to make an impression on the reader. Sitting in a diner and looking upon a wall full of nostalgia, there hangs a picture of another older diner in some Northern city. The lettering from it's rooftop sign almost screams "Make a font out of this!"... so Jeff Levine did... "Hash and Beans JNL".

A September 29, 1920 edition of The San Diego Union ran the headline “Cicotte Confesses Baseball Fraud; Eight White Sox Players Indicted”. The White Sox baseball scandal was the first to reveal illegal gambling on the game. However, the headline itself was set in a bold slab serif type style [likely ATF Foster] which served as the model for Good Reporting JNL; which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Alfina is a chancery typeface that shows a modern temperament, but is inspired by the eponymous town of Torre Alfina, one of the most beautiful medieval villages of Italy, situated on the edge of the plateau Alfina, a few miles from of Orvieto. The place where is the castle is steeped in history. Its roots date back to the Lombard kingdom (seventh century); later it was under the rule of Monaldeschi (1200-1700) and more recently (1880) the property of the rich French banker Count Edoardo Cahen of Antwerp, who was responsible for the present aspect of the Castle. Alfina has soft lines, very slender upper cases and thin overlapping strokes; The stylistic alternates are particularly important, and the type is enriched by many, different OpenType features.

Delm font family is one of those large and useful families that you really can’t miss if you are looking for typeface combining originality and legibility. FP Dancer attempts to combine a constructed face with an upright script face. The goal was a type family that combines softness and friendliness with more strength. Typographica.org selected this font as one of the best typefaces for 2007.

Regular Joe was first delivered to the font world by Ron and Joe. Yes, the same Ron and Joe of the ArtParts fame. A few years of being so regular, Regular Joe became, well, just bored. Regular Joe needed company. He wished for a family. After all, most of his font friends had big families. His wishes were granted by FontHaus. So Skinny and Husky were created to be with Regular and all together, they became Family Joe. All is well.

The typeface Fry was developed in 2008 specially for the Sky-Fish company (fish and seafood dealer). This type is designed for small texts and has a friendly and a fairytale historic flavor. Fry takes the openness and dynamism of humanistic sans serif, the simple and softness of lubok’s letters (primitive style) and the fluidity of shallow marine fry. Despite its funny style, Fry works well even in the 5 point size. In large sizes Fry demonstrates its originality, vivacity and softness, in the small characteristics become less visible, and Fry’s readability becomes more important. This makes the typeface suitable for many tasks of typography. The typeface includes extended set of Latin, Cyrillic and Greek, old style and lining figures, historical alternates and special local features. The combination of lubok’s aesthetics and funny dynamic forms make a nature of Fry. Fry was exhibited on Svjato Cyrillic (Kharkov, Ukraine) festival in 2008. It was awarded for excellence in type and graphic design at Modern Cyrillic 2009 competition. Also it received the second prize in display category at Granshan 2011. Fry was selected among 50 typefaces for the Call for type exhibition in the Gutenberg museum (2013).

Jessie's Letter is based on an old typed letter by Kerrie's great step grandmother. This letter was undated, but we think it must have been from the 1920s or so. Jessie wasn't much for punctuation, so there aren't any of those pesky question marks and exclamation points. But, she did make mistakes in her typing, so we've included cross outs and strange resulting characters to make up for the lack of everyday punctuation. Maybe Jessie wanted to visit Paris, or maybe she secretly made paintings in her back yard, or maybe she dreamed of painting her house bright pink. Well, maybe not, but it's fun to dream...

Fleurons Initials is a set of elegantly decorated blocked initials, reminiscent of old Jazz and Circus Posters. I have added one set of flat underlays and one of blocked underlays, so you can easily add a little colorful touch here and there. Easy because those underlays have the the same spacing! Have fun. In one of our yearly type hunts, we came across the ancestor of this font, much wider and more decorative, with fine outside shading. Condition was poor so we did the obvious, cutting out the excess decoration and condensing the face optically. It reeks of dancing girls and drunken sailors and other colorful attributes of Old San Francisco.

TE Nastaaliq Font It is one of the Persian calligraphy or ta'liq line that appeared in Persia in the seventh century AH (thirteenth century AD), as it was extracted from the lines of naskh, patch and thuluth. The engraver Jean Jannon ranks among the significant representatives of French typography of the first half of the 17th century. From 1610 he worked in the printing office of the Calvinist Academy in Sedan, where he was awarded the title "Imprimeur de son Excellence et de l'Academie Sédanoise". He began working on his own alphabet in 1615, so that he would not have to order type for his printing office from Paris, Holland and Germany, which at that time was rather difficult. The other reason was that not only the existing type faces, but also the respective punches were rapidly wearing out. Their restoration was extremely painstaking, not to mention the fact that the result would have been just a poor shadow of the original elegance. RyuGothic Family is a humanistic interpretation of the Hangul Gothic style. It delivers messages in a soft, calm tone that does not overpower. The narrow counter design of consonants in Hangul and the narrow counter of the Latin lowercase letters are connected to create a sense of structural unity between the two sets of characters. This enables you to read long lines and works well in a variety of media and situations. Each font includes: 2,350 Hangul syllables, the smallest unit for expressing modern Korean; Latin Basic; punctuation; symbols for Korean codepage. Cyrillic, Greek, and Kana alphabets were excluded. The punctuation is designed in the preferred location for Korean typesetting.

Some time ago, my son asked me to name all Seven Seas. I had to think for a bit, because I can think of more than 7 seas (the North Sea, the Caspian Sea, the South China Sea, the Sea Of Okhotsk, etc.), but apparently these are not part of the BIG Seven. It turns out that even oceans count as ‘seas’. Long story short, I created a font, had to think of my son’s question and named the font Seven Seas. Seven Seas is a hand made serif that comes with swashed alternatives for a lot of glyphs.

Colmcille was designed by a Gaelic scholar, typographer and printer, and first released by Monotype for composition casting in 1936. The design intention was to provide a Gaelic looking type which worked well as a roman text face. The digital version of the Colmcille font family has been made in collaboration with the designer's son, Dara O Lochlainn. A number of changes have been made, including a new set of figures and the addition of a bold weight. Although originally designed as a text face, Colmcille can be used for advertisements, flyers, in fact wherever a touch of Gaelic charm is required.

The name Norden means “the Nordic”, as in the geographical area or its countries. Inspired by the simplicity of Nordic and Scandinavian design, the Norden fonts give you clarity of expression, beyond the usual geometric look and feel of traditional sans-serifs. Open and spacious, the shapes of the glyphs play both with and against each other. Round and soft versus square and solid, a basic curve versus a straight line, creating a detached yet distinct style of expression, from light-as-air Hairline to dark and Bold. Blomma is a hand-lettered all-caps display font with intricate botanical details. We’re in a lockdown of sorts (again) and things are pretty … uhm … boring at the moment. No going out for a coffee, no school (so the kids are at home), no meeting with friends… The new reality kinda sucks if I say so myself. Besides that, it turns out that we have a new dominant type of Covid in Holland.. wait, Dominant Type! Ahh, great name for my latest font! Dominant Type is a handmade all caps font. It comes with extensive language support (including Vietnamese) and 2 sets of alternate glyphs for that bit of ‘random awesomeness’!

From Weimar to København/Copenhagen, picking up some decadent traits on its journey. The design of Copenhagen Grotesk is inspired by the great German grotesque type design history, although it will not fall into ranks in all aspects. Indeed, Copenhagen Grotesk will not be put into one single time pocket of style, so you'll notice that there's a hint of art deco style in its capital letters. The visual expression is first and foremost firmly rooted in the style of Scandinavian design, so feel free to use Copenhagen Grotesk for functional typographic design in relation to multiple media types.

Futuramano was the kind of typeface we scribbled in those old days, when I was an art-director in advertising agencies. We used it to simulate the headlines and the subheads, so the client could read what the copywriters had in mind. As Futura was the font of choice in those days (as it still is), our scribbled typeface looked much like Futura. The second half of the name “mano” means hand, so that is what it is, kind of a handwritten Futura. Futuramano is very practical if you want to have that unfinished touch! M Ellan HK is a soft yet robust typeface that strikes an appropriate balance between vertical and horizontal strokes (豎、橫). Finials of strokes are sharp but gentle, alluding to the appeal of calligraphy. It is elegant as well as contemporary. M Ellan Light features similar thickness in vertical and horizontal strokes (豎、橫) that together make it lucid and appealing, while thickness of strokes in M Ellan Bold are accordingly adjusted to maintain its friendly and graceful character.

Quavo is a round sans font family, including regular and oblique font styles. Round corner of letters show the soft and friendly vibe and some letters for instance: letter a, b and d, they all have a tail at the end. It's sort of personal preference, for I want to add some ornamental elements in this font. Quavo can be applied in lots of areas. Including but not limited in titles, posters, book pages and big display canvas.

At home, we don’t drink soft drinks at all. Maybe sometimes, when one of the kids has a birthday party, but we normally don’t have a stash of the stuff. We have cordial, or, as wel call it in Holland: limonadesiroop (‘Lemonade Syrup’). There you go, another font name xplained! Today Syrup was made with a marker pen and a lot of paper! It comes with a frizzy, sticky goodness to give your designs that extra kick.

Konrad Kachelhofen was a printer in the city of Leipzig beginning around 1483. He printed many works by contemporary authors and also many of the classics. He acquired an unusually large amount of typefaces for his shop, a place that included a wine bar and book store. This particular face is based on the Typ.8:170G GfT101 Gesamtkatalog der Wiegendrucke. He probably died in 1529 after passing his business on to his son-in-law Melchior Lotter.

Louis is a faithful digital rendition and expansion of a design called Fanfare, originally drawn by Louis Oppenheim in 1927. Redrawn digitally by Rod MacDonald, and engineered in-house by Canada Type, Louis includes the many alternates that came with the original design, and then some. It was also expanded into three variations, including a soft-cornered style, and a rough woodcut one. And of course, the codepage support covers the majority of Latin-based languages.

Mariné is a geometric sans but with the softness of humanistic strokes. It’s mild contrast and multiple different styles allow Mariné to work well as both a text and display font. It also includes an Up version and calligraphic features that add a touch of informality. Mariné is available in an extended family and is the close cousin of Amelia (available at MyFonts.com). All differences between Mariné and Amelia appear in the italic and Up versions.
